Gail Kaler Leslie

Gail Kaler Leslie of Milton, MA, 64, beloved wife of John H. Leslie, passed away on July 5th after a courageous battle with cancer.  Beloved daughter of the late Robert J. and Joanne (Bowen) Kaler; she was the dear sister of Mary K. Chapin [Steven] and Stephen [Maryann], Robert [Liri], Timothy, Thomas, and the late Lisa Kaler. She was also devoted to 11 adoring nieces and nephews, and through marriage a loving daughter, son, granddaughter and grandson.

Gail will be fondly remembered by her family and her numerous cousins, friends, and colleagues for her extraordinary wisdom, kindness and constant support.  A summa cum laude graduate of Boston College School of Nursing (BSN) and Yale Graduate School of Nursing (MS), Gail was a longtime Clinical Nurse Specialist in the Urgent Care Psychiatry unit at Massachusetts General Hospital (“MGH”) in Boston, where she was a highly valued and respected Senior Ethics Consultant on the MGH Optimum Care Committee. She grew up in Milton, attending St. Mary of the Hills School and then Fontbonne Academy, and lived there all of her life.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Saint Mary of the Hills Church, Saturday July 14 at 10:00 AM.  Relatives and friends invited.  Visiting hours at Dolan Funeral Home, 460 Granite Avenue, EAST MILTON SQUARE, Thursday July 12 and Friday July 13 from 7-9 PM.  Interment Milton Cemetery.

Ida Alves

Ida Alves of Brockton, Passed away Tuesday, July 3, 2018. Ida leaves behind 7 loving children, 23 grandchildren, 37 great grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild.

Visiting  hours will be held at the Dolan Funeral Home, 1140 Washington St., DORCHESTER LOWER MILLS on Friday, July 6 from 5-9pm. The Funeral Service will be held at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 49 Winthrop St., Roxbury on Saturday at 10am. Interment at New Calvary Cemetery.

Jeanne Nimeskern

Jeanne (Otis) Nimeskern died on July 1, 2018, aged 86 years old.

Jeanne was born on September 11, 1931 in Augusta, Georgia, the only child of A. Francis Otis, Jr. and Anna (Mulherin) Otis.  After A. F. Otis passed away in 1942, Anna then married Thomas Dennis in 1945 and the family moved to Dover, New Hampshire.  Jeanne attended high school at St. Mary’s Academy, Dover, New Hampshire.

Jeanne married Phillip W. Nimeskern on June 21, 1952 and moved to Massachusetts.  They built their home in West Quincy and had 5 children.  Jeanne and Phill were married for 60 years before Phill passed away in 2012.

They were members of St. Mary’s Church and Jeanne was a member of the Sodality and the Mother’s Guild.  Jeanne was a Cub Scout den mother, a Camp Fire Girls leader and a Girl Scout leader.  She was an avid Boston sports fan.

Jeanne is survived by her children: Patricia Gager and her husband Gerard; Phillip Nimeskern and his wife Lynn Noel; Kathryn O’Neill and Tim Wong; Elizabeth Rossi and her husband David; and Debra Silva and her husband James.  She is also survived by her grandchildren: Michael Gager; William Gager and his wife Katherine; Jeanette Stair and her husband Matthew; James Rossi; Patrick Rossi and his wife Taylor Ann; and Kaitlyn Rossi.  Jeanne was also the proud great-grandmother of Lily Gager and Sylvia Jeanne Rossi.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mary’s Church, 95 Crescent St., Quincy, Friday, July 6, at 10:30 am.  Visiting hours at Dolan Funeral Home, 460 Granite Avenue, EAST MILTON SQUARE, Thursday 4 – 8 pm.  Interment Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne, Monday, July 9 at 10:30 am.

Michel Petit

Michel Petit, formerly of Randolph, died at the age of 82, June 29, 2018.

Beloved husband of Angela Francois and loving father of Jesula Sanon, Michlet Petit, Shoupèt Petit, Loran Petit, and the late Dieubon Petit. He was a farmer in rural Haiti for over 50 years raising cattle, horses, chicken, and farming vegetables.

He had a special place in his heart for his grandchildren and assigned each one of them a special nickname. He was very social and had the funniest jokes to tell.

A special thank you to the Bostonian Nursing & Rehabilitation Center and Dr. Jeff Siracuse at Boston Medical Center for their kindness and support.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Saint  Bernadette Church, 1026 North Main Street, Randolph, Friday July 6th, at 10 o’clock. Visitation 9-10 am at the church. Interment St. Mary’s Cemetery, Randolph.

Coleman Sean O’Toole

Coleman Sean O’Toole, of Milton MA, a beloved young man of 42, Coleman died far too soon but gracefully, surrounded by friends and family on June 29, 2018.

Cherished son of Dean Emeritus of New England School of Law Robert Edward O’Toole and Attorney Frances Rita (Doherty) O’Toole, Coleman was born on April 25, 1976 in Dorchester, MA and was named after his grandfather Coleman Francis O’Toole and his uncle Coleman Vincent O’Toole.

A member of the “thirteen-year club” Coleman attended Milton Academy from kindergarten through high school. Diagnosed with multiple sclerosis at 16, he dedicated the rest of his years to living life to the fullest and spreading joy and laughter to everyone he met. He never complained about the hand he was dealt; he was always too busy and excited about his next adventure.

Coleman attended Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, NY, where he was a gifted sculptor, radio DJ and actor, appearing in many campus productions. Graduating in 1998, he went on to become a founding member and Senior Vice President of Fovea Floods, an independent avant-garde theater company, appearing in a variety of productions, from the original work Paul Pry, adapted from Hans Christian Andersen’s The Snow Queen, to Bertolt Brecht’s Baal.

An avid reader and world traveler, Coleman never slowed down, although he always had time to devote to helping and caring for others, especially his three beloved nephews, Owen Ulysses O’Toole, Callum Flynn O’Toole and Rory Sean O’Toole.

Coleman is survived by a traditional Irish Catholic multitude of uncles, aunts and cousins who loved and supported him throughout his life and by his one younger brother Christian Liam O’Toole, who was extremely close to him and happily served as his companion, confidant, supporter, partner in crime, protector and author of this loving tribute.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Elizabeth Church, Reedsdale Road, Milton, Saturday July 7 at 10 AM. Relatives and friends invited. Visiting hours at Dolan Funeral Home, 460 Granite Avenue, EAST MILTON SQUARE, Friday 4 – 8 PM. Interment Milton Cemetery.

Joao Baptista Pereira Goncalves

Joao Baptista Pereira Goncalves, 56, of Weymouth passed away on Saturday, June 16, 2018.

Beloved longtime partner of Joanne Berry of Randolph. Loving father of Carlos Goncalves of Cape Verde, Jacquline Goncalves of Portugal and Celina Goncalves Berry of Randolph. Caring step-father of Alexis Berry of Boston, Janice Berry of Brockton, Carl Berry of Randolph, Erica Berry of Brockton, and Joshua Berry of Boston. Brother of Edna Goncalves, Maria Dul Celina Goncalves, Llm Goncalves, Celina Goncalves all of Cape Verde. Joao also leaves behind six grandchildren, ten step-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews as well as many friends and extended family members.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Saint Patrick’s Church, Dudley Street at Blue Hill Avenue, Roxbury, Monday, July 2 at 10:00 AM. Visitation at 9:00 AM at the church. Internment in Cape Verde. Family and friends are invited to Amvets Post No 51, 9 Amvets lane, Randolph, MA immediately following the Funeral Mass.

 

David J. Curtis

David J. Curtis, 92 years young, passed away peacefully in his Jupiter, Florida home on June 29, 2018.

He was born in Boston in 1925 to Thomas Curtis and Alice Callahan. He spent his early years in Quincy and attended Quincy High School.  He was a veteran of the United States Army Air Corps during World War II and was stationed in England.

He was married for 66 years to Margaret (Peggy) Reinhalter also of Quincy, who passed away in 2014. Together they raised nine children in Weymouth and Scituate. He is survived by Stephen and his wife Patricia Connolly of Stuart, FL, Kevin and his wife Jym-Ann of Braintree, Karen Hartigan and her husband Gerard of Sudbury, Susan Gile and her husband John of Denver, CO, Lauren McCarthy and her husband Peter of Scituate, Robin Christensen of Marietta, GA, Glenn and his wife Elizabeth of Hampton, NY and Marilyn Gordian and her husband Michael of Wake Forest, NC and the late Shawn Curtis of Rockland, ME. He is also survived by 15 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.  He was predeceased by his siblings Mary Berlo, Thomas, Richard and Alan Curtis, Jean Barrett and Dorothy Kelley.  He is also survived by several cousins and many nieces and nephews.

David had a very successful career as a co-owner of Curtis Farms Supermarkets and Curtis Liquors with his brothers Tom, Dick and Alan.  He was also a former President of the Scituate Chamber of Commerce.

Upon his retirement he moved to Florida, where he was a longtime member of Jonathan’s Landing Golf Club.  His summer months were spent in Scituate where he was a member of Hatherly Golf Club.  Besides golf, he was an avid card playing enthusiast as well as having a passion for painting. He also had a love of horse racing and reveled in being part owner of 2 successful race horses, Falerno and Shrike.

Visiting hours Monday July 9th at the Dolan Funeral Home, 460 Granite Avenue, EAST MILTON SQUARE from 4 to 8 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial  will be celebrated  in St. Agatha Church, Milton at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday July 10th.

Donations in lieu of flowers can be made to Catholic Charities of the Boston Diocese or JL Cares of Jonathan’s Landing in Jupiter, Florida.

Evangelos V. “Van” Petras

Evangelos, V. “Van” Petras died June 30, 2018 peacefully with his wife, brother and sister-in-law by his side.

He was born in Athens Greece 11-4-31 and came to the US in 1965. He worked
for 12 yrs. as a supervisor at Jordan Marsh Company. Later he owned his own business”Art Tailoring and Cleaning” in Quincy. He was a devoted Greek Orthodox Christian whose beliefs showed in his actions. He devoted many volunteer hours to his beloved church, St. Catherine Greek Orthodox Church in Braintree serving as Parish Council Member and helping
the secretary.

He was the son of Vasilios and Marianthe (Yiannoulis) Petras.  He leaves behind “the love of his life”of 48 yrs Pauline (Droutsas) Petras. His brother Demitrios and his wife Helen of Medford, the late Eleftherios and his wife Angelike of Athens Greece, his sister Nektaria and her late husband Mathew Macrionites of Athens Greece, his sister Victoria and her late husband Dr. Pano Yiamarellos of Athens Greece, Nickolaos and his wife MAry of West Yarmouth MA. He also left 9 nephews and nieces and many great nieces and nephews and 15 God Children.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend visitation on Tuesday July 3, 2018 11:00am-1:00pm in Saint Catherine’s Greek Orthodox Church,  119 Common St. Braintree.  A Funeral Service  will follow at 1PM.  Interment in Forest Hills Cemetery, Boston.

The Honorable Charles F. Barrett

The Honorable Charles F. Barrett, in Canton, formerly of Milton, June 27, 2018.

Beloved husband of the late Marie P. (O’Malley) Barrett. Loving father of William C. Barrett of Norwood, Kathleen M. Barrett-Lewis of Milton, Janice Vanty Barrett of Virginia Beach,  John R. Barrett of Westminster, Richard J. Barrett of Canton and James P. Barrett of Arlington. He is also survived by 13 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins.  Brother of the late Mary Hughes, Margaret Barrett, Eileen Coletta, Evelyn Hilton and Alice Donlan.

Charles was born in Cambridge, the youngest of six siblings.  He is a graduate of Saint John’s High School, Boston College, class of 52′ and Boston College Law School, class of 55′.  He was an active member of both the Class of 52′ and 55′ Alumni Groups.  He had served BC Law as the Case Review Editor and Class President from 1953-1954.  He was award the Jurisprudence Award, Creedon Award and the most important being the National Honor Society Order of the Coif.  Charles was the Judicial Clerk for Associate Justice James Ronan of the Mass Supreme Court from 1955-1956 the Assistant District Attorney from 1956-1959, and a part-time BC Law School lecturer from 1957-1959.  He practiced Litigation and Product Liability Law with the firm of Nutter, McClennen & Fish from 1959-1989 and was appointed the Associate Justice to the Massachusetts Superior Court by Michael Dukakis in 1989, which he served until 2000.

Charles was a proud member of the American College of Trial Lawyers, Mass Bar Association, in which he served multiple committees, the Catholic Lawyers Guild and a Trustee of the Social Law Library.  He was an educator for the Mass Continuing Legal Education and a lecturer for the National Institute of Trial Advocacy Program.

Locally Charles was the Milton Chairman of the Board of Appeals, between the 70s and 80s, and a Town Meeting Member.  He was a member of Saint Elizabeth’s Church and reverently taught the Christian Formation classes.  When he had even a moment of free time, Charles was volunteering at local homeless shelters.

Charles loved most especially spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren, having family barbecues, traveling and reading.  He loved photography, working on home improvements and gardening.  His favorite holiday of all was celebrating the 4th of July.

Sean Pelzer

Sean Pelzer was born in Boston, MA on November 22, 1968 to Eula Atkins and Johnny Pelzer.  After High School he joined the United States Army.  After serving the military he worked for Massachusetts Unemployment and the Massachusetts General Hospital.  Sean was involved on various political campaign committees.

His passion was working closely on the Cori Reform.  He loved coaching youth flag football and he was a honorary

member of the Windows Son Lodge #1 in West New Haven, CT.  Sean was devoted to his family.  He knew many people and many people knew him.  He always had a smile and never was one who was lost for words.  He could carry on a conversation with anyone.  He had a brilliant mind to master any task.

He leaves behind to mourn his parents Eula and James Atkins and his father Johnny Pelzer.  Grandparents Gonza Lee Gause.  Cinderella Gause (deceased), Louise Atkins (deceased) and Johnny Pelzer, Sr. (deceased).  Siblings; Michele Naila, Staci Gamble, Martez Crockton, Michael Caldwell, Timothy Caldwell, Tyrell Pelzer, Roberta Scott, Jonathan Scott and Stacey Bond (deceased).  Children; John Pelzer, Shakira Young, Sean, Young, Shannon Pelzer, Shakye Pelzer, Shemar Pelzer, Phoebe Pelzer, Hannah Pelzer, Joshua Pelzer and Alivia Pelzer.  Grandchidlren; Kayla Pelzer and J’vanna Pelzer.  Sisters-in-Law Sonya Patten and Elizabeth Crockton.  Brother-in-Law Ronald Gamble and his ex-wife Sharnda Young who continued to be in his life.  Sean leaves a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and extended family.
