Arlene Frances McCullagh

Arlene Frances (Cull) McCullagh (83) peacefully passed away in her sleep on October 8, 2018. Arlene was the second daughter of three children born to Allen and Anna May Cull (McFarland) of Milton, MA. She grew up in Milton, MA with her two sisters, Janet and Ann Marie, and was a graduate of Matignon High School and Emmanuel College in Boston, Massachusetts.

Arlene was an excellent student, a prolific reader and enjoyed staying current on the news and business. She graduated with Honors from Emmanuel College in 1957 with a BS in Business Administration and was a proud Emmanuel College alumna all her life. Arlene remained close with her friends from Emmanuel College and attended her class reunions as often as possible. Arlene was married to Charles McCullagh and together they raised a family while living in Ohio, New Jersey, Massachusetts and Connecticut. Arlene was instrumental in the early growth of Parts Service International (PSI), headquartered in Westfield, MA, which grew to serve customers around the world until the company was sold in 1998.

Arlene happily lived for many years on Cape Cod and enjoyed the fresh air, the ocean, the symphony and the peaceful solitude of the winter months. Arlene will be remembered by many for her timeless elegance, her beautiful smile, her unrepentant devotion to family, her dry sense of humor, her great love of all things chocolate, her mastery of the world’s greatest apple pie and so many colorful and warm holiday gatherings alongside her family. She will be deeply missed.

She was a devoted mother, proud grandmother, and loyal friend, Arlene F. McCullagh is survived by her children and their families: son Charles Brendan and Martha McCullagh (Easthampton, MA); daughter Linda and Stephen O’Leary (Boston, MA); son Mark and Mary McCullagh (Charlotte, NC); son Neil and Gail McCullagh (Cambridge, MA) and eleven grandchildren, a source of great happiness. Arlene was the sister of Janet Claire Venti (Cull) and is survived by sister Ann Marie Cull (Quincy, MA).

Calling hours will be held at St. Peter Parish, 100 Concord Ave Cambridge, MA from 9:30 to 11:00 AM on Saturday October 13, 2018, and will be followed by a Funeral Mass at the same location.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Arlene McCullagh may be made to Emmanuel College Financial Aid and General Scholarship Fund, c/o Development and Alumni Relations,  400 The Fenway, Boston, MA 02115.  Burial will be held privately at a later date.

Kathleen M. Dodds

Kathleen M. “Kay” (Scherer) Dodds of Milton passed away on October 6, 2018.   Beloved mother of Denise Dodds and her spouse, Mary Pope.  Daughter of the late Joseph G. and Henrietta V. (Gray) Scherer.   Sister of William F. Scherer of Medway, John L. Scherer of Holliston, Elizabeth A. Scherer of Hanover, and the late Joseph Scherer.  Also, survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Kay was proud to have grown up in Roxbury and grateful for the loving guidance and education that she received at Saint Joseph Academy from the Sisters of Saint Elizabeth.   Kay enjoyed a long career at State Street Bank and Trust Company.   She began as a bookkeeping clerk and moved through the ranks to become one of the bank’s first female Assistant Vice President.   Kay received certificates in banking from Williams College and Rutgers University.   When reflecting back on her career, Kay would often observe “not bad for a kid from Roxbury.”

Kay was a woman of strong likes and dislikes. She loved to dance, listen to music, and drink a glass of good prosecco.  She loved to laugh and reminisce with good friends and relatives.    Kay loved to shop and was always dressed to the ‘nines.”   She followed politics and loved JFK and President Obama whom she referred to as Obie as if they were good friends.   Kay loved her brothers, her furry companion, Dora, and above all, she loved her daughter, Denise.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Most Precious Blood Church, Hyde Park , Thursday October  11, at 10 o’ clock. Visiting hours in the Dolan Funeral Home, 1140 Washington St.  DORCHESTER LOWER MILLS,  Wednesday 4-8 pm. Elizabeth M. Martell

Elizabeth (Marden) Martell, 98, of Bellingham, formerly of Falmouth, passed away on Wednesday, October 3, 2018, at Maples Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Wrentham with her loving family by her side.

Born in Boston, MA on January 7, 1920, she was the daughter of the late Ralph A. Marden and the late Lena C. (Gale) Marden. She was the beloved wife of the late Louis A. Martell and the loving mother of the late Peter M. Martell of Oak Bluffs, MA and the late Ralph A. Martell of Bellingham, MA. She was predeceased by her brother, Ralph A. Marden, Jr.

She leaves her devoted daughter in law, Lynda V. Martell of Bellingham, and her cherished grandchildren, Amy E. Bourgeault and her husband, Mark of Woonsocket, RI, Sara M. Birt and her husband, Allen of South Kingston, RI, and Kevin D. Martell of New Bedford, MA. She also leaves 5 great-grandchildren, Rebecca L. Bourgeault, Michael M. Martell, Collin M. Birt, Nichole R. Birt and Ryan W. Martell. She was predeceased by a great-granddaughter, Jenna E. Bourgeault.

Betty was a former resident of Natick, MA and Falmouth, MA. She worked at Red Coach Grill restaurants in Framingham and Hyannis until her retirement. She was an avid gardener with many awards from the Barnstable County Fair. For 40 years she volunteered at Falmouth Hospital for the blood bank and X-ray department. She also was a member of the Great Harbors Women’s Club and the Red Hat Society.

Devoted to her family and a dear friend and neighbor to many, she will be greatly missed.

Graveside services will be held at Milton Cemetery, 211 Center St., Milton, MA, on Friday, October 5 at 1:30 PM.

Erick Couamin

Erick Couamin, age 54, passed away on Monday, September 24, 2018.

Cherished son of Joseph and Marie Couamin. Beloved husband of Marie-France (Victor Odena) Couamin. Loving father of Franerick and Eriance Couamin.

The Viewing will be held Saturday, October 6, 2018 from 8:00 AM to 9:30 AM at Jubilee Christian Church, 39 South St., Stoughton. The Funeral Service will begin at 9:30 AM at Jubilee Christian Church Entombment will follow at St Michael Cemetery in Roslindale. Relatives and friends invited.

Jereline Watch

Jereline Watch, of Brockton died on September 28, 2018.  Beloved mother of Jacquline Watch of Braintree and Victor A. Watch of Brockton.  Sister of Margie Anderson, James Woods and the late Timothy Smith.  Jereline was the cherished grandmother of Candice Watch-Lespinasse and her husband Jean of Quincy and  Myles and Xavier Watch  both of Brockton.

Jereline worked for many years for Westin Hotels before retiring.  She will be missed by all who had the pleasure to have known her.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend visiting hour on Saturday October 6, 2018 from 9:00am-10:00am in the Grace Church, 101 Wales Avenue, Avon, MA.  A  Funeral Service will follow at 10:00am.  Interment in Blue Hills Cemetery, Braintree.

Dorothy A. Manzer

Dorothy A. (Havey) Manzer, September 8, beloved wife of the late John W. Manzer. Devoted mother of Judy A. Manzer of CA and the late James W. Manzer. Sister of  the late   Ralph S. Have of MD. Dot also leaves her longtime friend and caretaker Annemarie Reaney. A Memorial Service will be held at Parkway United Methodist Church, 158 Blue Hills Parkway, Milton, MA, 02186, Wednesday, October 17, at 11 o’clock. Interment Private. Mary “Patsy” Moran

Mary P.  “Patsy” Moran of Dorchester died on September 28, 2018.  Beloved daughter of the late Patrick J. and Mary (Conway) Moran. Devoted sister of John J. Moran and his wife Jeanne of Weymouth and the late Thomas J. Moran. Cherished aunt of Cynthia Go and her husband Samuel, John J. Moran, Jr. and his wife Cynthia, and Trisha Moran and her fiancé Joe Donovan.  Great-aunt of Sophie and Nicholas Go, Megan and Brendan Moran, and Madeline Laderoute.  Dear friend of Josephine Lacey of Quincy.

Patsy was an employee of J. Baker Shoe for 39 years and was active in her community throughout her life.  Patsy was extremely proud of her Irish heritage and had many friends and good times as a member of several clubs, especially the Irish Pastoral Center. Patsy was happiest planning parties for her friends and making holiday gifts and decorations for everyone she knew. Her family would like to thank everyone at Hancock Park who embraced Patsy’s exuberant personality over the past year and helped her to continue the festivities. Patsy will be remembered for her kindness and generosity, and for always finding a reason to celebrate.

Lawrence T. White

Lawrence T. White (Larry), 93, of Quincy and formerly of Milton and Dorchester died peacefully on Friday, September 28th, 2018. Larry was the son of the late Vera and Leo White of Dorchester and Nova Scotia. Larry was the loving brother of John “Red” White of Bradenton, FL; and the late Mary Lenore. Larry was the beloved husband of the late Joan Sullivan. Larry was a wonderful father to his children Christine West and her husband Joseph of Mansfield; Lorraine and her husband John McKenna of Sandwich, Lawrence Jr. and his husband Stanley L. Serwacki of Boston, Leo and his wife Brenda Biggins of Milton and Nancy and her husband Michael Vaughan of Milton. Larry adored and loved his 11 grandchildren: Colin, Sean, Ryan, Brendan, Liam, Kevin, Jack, Natalie, Dermot, Siobhan, and Nora. Larry was a devoted uncle to four nephews and a niece.

Larry was a proud USMC Veteran of World War 2- serving at Guadalcanal and Mendanau. Larry was a Boston Firefighter for Ladder 17, and Local 718, for over 35 years. After retiring from the Boston Fire department, Larry worked for the US Post Office in Boston. Larry was also part owner of The Boston Club/Garage for many years.

Larry loved his church, family, walking at Castle Island, horse races, ballroom dancing, the Patriots, the Red Sox, and a good laugh

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated, Thursday October 4, in Saint Agatha Church, Adams St at Brook Rd., Milton at 9 AM. Relatives and friends invited. Lucille M. (Kelly) Francis

Lucille M. Francis of Dorchester, MA passed away in her 96th year on Thursday, September 27th in hospice care at the Pat Roche Hospice Home in Hingham, MA.

Cherished daughter of the late William and Florence J. (Kelly) Francis. Dear sister of the late Eileen Elizabeth Francis O’Brien and sister-in-law of the late Thomas F. O’Brien.  Dearest aunt of Barbara L. McIntire (James) of Holmes Beach, Florida; Deborah E. Morin (Patrick) of Bratenahl, Ohio; Jennifer M. Masters (John), of Lake Forest, Illinois; David T. O’Brien of Akron, Ohio. Great aunt of Alison McIntire (Raphael) of McLean, Virginia, Sarah Tanhan (Zachary), Hillary Masters, Carolyn Masters of Chicago, Illinois, Thomas McIntire of Los Angeles, California. Great, great aunt of Isabel, Louisa, David, and Maria Garcia-McIntire of McLean, Virginia.      Lucille attended Bridgewater State College and graduated from Fisher College. She will be remembered for her intelligence, curiosity, international travels, and the click of her heels on the sidewalk in the early morning, walking to catch the train at Ashmont Station in pursuit of her career in Boston, working at MIT, Harvard, and Choate Hall & Stewart.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Saint Gregory’s Church, 2223 Dorchester Avenue, Dorchester, Tuesday, October 2nd at 10:00 AM. Relatives and friends invited. Visiting hours in the Dolan Funeral Home, 460 Granite Avenue, EAST MILTON SQUARE, Monday 5-7 PM. Interment Private.

Thomas E. Leen

Thomas E. Leen, age 77, of Quincy, passed away after a long illness on September 28, 2018.

Beloved Fiancé of Kathleen Kyer of Bridgewater. Loving father of Rose Slayter and her husband the late Robert Slayter of Plymouth, Betsy and her husband John Beaton, Jr., of Plymouth, Anne and her husband Steven Smith of Milton and their mother Rose Fitzgerald. Proud “Papa” of Kiley and Tommy Slayter, Ryan and Jack Beaton and Griffin and Lauren Smith. Tom also leaves Kathleen’s daughter Alison, and her husband Christopher Burns and their children Caileen, Francis and Caroline. Brother of William Leen, John Leen, Mary Vera and the late Henry Leen, Jr..

Tom worked for Boston Edison before retiring in 2000.  Tom was an avid bike rider and a proud member of both the Quincy Yaz Men’s Softball Team and Milton Men’s Bowling League.  He was also a proud participant in The Quincy Senior Olympics.
