Dorothy M. Levy, 97, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend passed away peacefully surrounded by family on June 15, 2019. “Dorth” was born in Chicago, Illinois. and soon moved to Alhambra, California, where she lived during her younger years. As an adult she moved frequently across the country due to her husband Bill’s career as an Air Force officer, including a year on Kwajalein Island after the Korean War.

Dorothy eventually set down roots in North Andover, Massachusetts where she lived for over 40 years. As a long term employee of Sears she enjoyed working with numbers in accounting, and was a daily follower of the stock market. She kept her mind sharp by solving crossword puzzles and was a lover of mystery novels. She was also an avid bridge player sometimes playing 2 to 3 times a week. She and Bill vacationed in many countries and she loved learning about their cultures, decorating her home with treasures she accumulated on her many trips. Dorothy also delighted in hosting dinner parties for family and friends. She loved to share memories of her long and interesting life with others who were held captive by her stories and truly amazed by how she could recall the tiniest of details. Her sharp wit and dry sense of humor left an impression upon all those who knew her. Always a lady with something nice to say, her fresh lipstick, pearls, and elegant attire were her trademarks. “Mamie”, as she was known by her grandchildren, spent countless hours playing cards with them and always had on hand their favorite snacks-whether it be deviled eggs or jello, and her candy dish was always full. After family holidays at her home there was a tradition of her flashing the porch light on and off to which we responded with a horn honk and big waves good-bye. Undoubtedly, Dorothy’s favorite place was the family beach house on Balboa Island in California, where generations of aunts, uncles and cousins gathered for weddings, anniversaries, and amazing vacations.  As the family matriarch, Dorothy was the last of her clan, and memories of her will be cherished by many family and friends.

Loving mother of Robert Becker and his wife Susan of Piedmont, CA., Patricia Murray and her husband Jack of Largo, FL., Carolyn Skowronski and her husband Barry Crawford of Milton and Cynthia Grover and her partner Forrest Jaynes of Standish, ME.. Cherished grandmother of nine and great grandmother of four. Sister of the late Nannette Fletcher and Helen Meehan.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Saint Michael Parish, 196 Main Street, North Andover on Wednesday, June 19, 2019 at 12:30pm. A visiting hour will be held at 11:30am prior to the service. Interment will take place at Arlington National Cemetery, Fort Myer, VA. at a later date.

William Joseph Murphy of Boston, formerly of Milton and Falmouth, passed away on June 10th, 2019. Beloved son of Juliann (Murphy) George, he is survived by his mother and many aunts, uncles and heartbroken cousins. We are comforted William rests with his adoring grandparents Nana & Ba.

Charles W. Roberts, of Scituate, formerly of West Quincy, died Wednesday June 12, 2019.

Beloved son of the late Charles and Mary L. (Woods) Roberts. Brother of the late William H. Roberts of West Roxbury.

Ada May McFarlane was born in Aenon Town, Clarendon Jamaica on July 3. 1933 to proud parents Leanora and Joseph McFarlane.  She was the sixth of eight children.  After a brief illness she passed away peacefully in Boston on June 6, 2019.  

Ada May attended Aenon Town public school and was gainfully employed as a nurse’s aide at Alexandria Hospital for 30 years before migrating to the United States in 1992.   She continued in her profession as a home health aide until her retirement.  

She is survived by her siblings Dottylin and Kenneth.   Ada also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews along with other friends and relatives.  

A Funeral Service will be held at New Testament Church of God, 25 Stoughton Street, Uphams Corner, Boston on Saturday, June 15th at 11:00 AM.  Family and friends invited.  A visiting hour will be held at the church from 10-11 AM prior to the service.  Interment to be held in Aenon Town District, Clarendon, Jamaica.

Dr. Paul Frederick Cotter, 83, of Milton, MA and Block Island, RI, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, June 8, 2019. Born on June 24, 1935 in Worcester, MA, to his loving parents Thomas and Kathryn (Sullivan) Cotter.

Paul grew up in Worcester, attended South High School and graduated from the College of the Holy Cross in 1957. He went on to study medicine at New York Medical College and graduated in 1961. That same year, he completed his internship at the U.S. Public Health Service Hospital in Brighton, MA. While working at St. Margaret’s Hospital in Dorchester, MA, Paul met the love of his life, Anne Dugan who was an instructor of maternity nursing at the time. They would marry soon after on September 22, 1962 at Sacred Heart Church in Weymouth. The two resided in Philadelphia while Paul finished his military service obligation and residency from 1962-1964 in the U.S. Public Health Service there.

Upon the birth of their first child, Paul and Anne moved back to her roots and bought their first home in Braintree, MA. The two went on to raise six children while Paul continued his medical education and became board certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology in November 1969. Anne and Paul had a storied marriage and they were a dedicated, loving couple for over 56 years.

Paul had a successful OB/GYN practice with his career-long partner, Dr. George B. Doyle. They worked together from 1967 until 2001. Both he and Doyle had faculty appointments at Tufts Medical School. They worked out of St. Margaret’s hospital, Quincy City, Carney, Milton and New England Medical Center (now Tufts Medical Center) for most of their careers. At the peak of their practice they delivered up to 1000 babies a year. Paul retired in 2002 after a 37-year long career. He never really stopped doctoring, as he was consulted often by family and friends and rightfully earned the nickname “On-call Paul”.

Paul was an avid sports fan and in his later years rarely missed a Red Sox, Patriots, Celtics or Bruins game. Larry Bird may have been his favorite athlete. He also spoke of Bob Cousy and Tommy Heinsohn who played for championship teams for both Holy Cross and the Boston Celtics. His love of baseball came at an early age as well when he founded a neighborhood league in Worcester. According to his brothers, he was the commissioner, manager and star player of his team, the Cubs. He often told the story of how he was the bat-boy at Fitton Field when Holy Cross played the Red Sox in an exhibition game one year and Bobby Doerr gave him an autographed picture of himself. His favorite baseball player was Ted Williams who coincidentally hit his first home run in a Red Sox uniform at Fitton Field.

Paul had a few hobbies. He loved old cars and was interested in real estate and architecture. He spent summers on Block Island as a young man and brought Anne out to the Island on one of their first dates. She instantly fell in love with the Island. He designed their home on Block Island, which was built in 1971. They spent summers and many holidays there with their children, grandchildren, other relatives and friends. 

He was an incredibly hard-working and generous man. Everyone who met him described him as kind and compassionate. He was a selfless provider for his family, always offering a helping hand to all. He had a great sense of humor and loved playing practical jokes on Anne and the kids.

He was a proud, doting father and grandfather, which were arguably his favorite roles. Later in life, when Anne ran into several health challenges, he became her primary caregiver for many years. His love, support and devotion to her and his family never wavered.

He is survived by his brothers, Tom, Bill and Peter, his children, Paul, Julie, Chris, Amy, Melissa and Tim and his grandchildren Caitlin, Missy, Tom, Kyle, Liam, Richie, Brianne, Dylan, Mary, and Haley, as well as many other relatives and friends. A Mass to celebrate Paul’s life will be held at St. Agatha Parish, 432 Adams Street, Milton, MA, Wednesday, June 19, 2019 at 10:30a. Visiting hours at Dolan Funeral Home, 460 Granite Avenue, East Milton Square, Tuesday, June 18, 2019, 4p-7p. In lieu of flowers, please make any donations in his memory to the Susan F. Smith Center for Women’s Cancers at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. Interment on Block Island to be announced.

Maryse Pierre Vilmé of Dorchester passed away on June 9, 2019. Beloved wife of Luders Vilmé of Dorchester for 34 years. Loving mother of Samatha Vilmé Evans and her husband Aswad of Holbrook, Luders Vilmé, Jr. and Matthew Vilmé both of Dorchester. Sister of Icaldo Pierre of Florida, Rev. Ronald Pierre of Medford, Marie Chantal Pierre Charles of Canada, Magalie Pierre Castel of New York, Winie Pierre Fadeau of New York. Cherished grandmother of Mason and Amelia Evans of Holbrook.
Maryse was born and raised in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. After coming to the United States, she settled in Dorchester with her husband Luders and raised her family. She was a certified nursing assistant at Carney Hospital for 35 years as well as the Boston Home for 25 years, where she was well respected and loved. Maryse always put others needs above her own, she was always helping and caring for not only her patients but family, friends and who ever needed a helping hand. She loved to cook, dance and tend to her garden. Maryse was truly a selfless person who loved her family immensely, they were the cornerstone of her life. She will be missed by all who had the pleasure to have known her.

On Saturday, June 1, 2019, Leanna “Tootsie Mae” Porter, of Boston MA, loving wife and mother passed away at the age of 92 with her family at her side. Leanna Porter was born in Memphis, TN to Reuben and Annie Mae Jones.

She is survived by her sons, Edwin (Cynthia) Porter of Norwood, MA, Stephen Porter of Boston, MA, Preston (Wendy) Porter of Randolph, MA, Leroy Porter of Boston, MA, Geno Porter, Jr. of Boston MA, and Mark (Rhondella) Porter of Bridgewater, MA, her sisters Flora Taylor of Carson, CA and Ruby Gibbs, of Chattanooga, TN, a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

Preceding her in death are her husband Geno Porter, son, Carl W. Porter, her parents Reuben and Annie Mae Jones, and her sister Camilla “Sugarbabe” Nance. Leanna was raised in Chattanooga TN, and later on, moved to Boston, MA where she met and married the love of her life Geno Porter.

She earned a certificate in Community Psychiatry from Boston State Hospital in 1974, she worked at St. Anthony’s Shrine, The Women’s Education and Industrial Union which worked towards the advancement of women and children, and St. Francis Chapel. She also worked as a Nursing Assistant. She enjoyed playing bingo and had a dedicated number of spots where she played bingo and was known as the “Bingo Queen” where she made and maintained lifelong friendships with several of her “bingo buddies”. She enjoyed bingo and still played up until a few months ago.

Leanna lovingly raised 7 boys who were her pride and joy and a source of gratification and fulfillment as nothing or no one was more treasured by her than her sons. She took great pride in raising them, but she was no pushover, when it came time to disciplining them. When she spoke they knew who was in charge and dared not defy her. She personified strength, was hardworking and no matter how little she had, she gave them the world. To many of their friends, she was “Mom” because she welcomed everyone into her life and home with love and acceptance. Her grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews were also a great source of joy for her as family meant the world to her, they loved visiting and seeing her not just for what she gave them, but for her unconditional love, her advice, her knowledge. She was always the favorite “Nana”.

A funeral service will be held Tuesday morning in the Dolan Funeral Home, 1140 Washington St., DORCHESTER LOWER MILLS at 11 AM. Relatives and friends invited. Visiting hours Monday 4 -7 PM. Interment Fairview Cemetery.

Jackson, Juanita of Randolph, formerly of Dorchester, passed away on May 26, 2019 surrounded by her family.  Beloved wife of the late Curtis Jackson.  Loving mother of Evelyn Jackson of Boston, Rita Jackson of Randolph, Lisa Jackson of Brockton, Curtis Jackson and the late Patricia Ann Roberts and Sherry Robinson.  Sister of the late Mathes Davis Robinson and Mary Walker Campbell.

Janet (Meehan) Murphy, 78, lifelong Milton resident, passed away May 29 surrounded by her loving nephews and nieces and grand nephews and nieces.  She was a life long resident of Milton.

Janet had a long career working as Chief Medical Technologist then as Supervisor of the clinical laboratory at St. Margaret’s Hospital.  She had two real passions in life; cherishing her family and traveling with her adoring husband John to all parts of the world.  Janet enjoyed her time in Naples during the winter months but Paris will always be her favorite trip. Janet was an avid reader and always enjoyed her trips to the library, reading on her Kindle Book and playing bridge with her friends.

Janet was the loving wife of the late John F. Murphy.  Beloved daughter of the late Dr. James Meehan and Mary (Smith) Meehan.  Sister of Mary C. Coles and the late Katherine Anne Murphy, Elaine M. Bortolotti, and James J. Meehan.  She is also survived by her loving nephews, nieces and grand nephews and nieces.

Warren “Stan” Bowman, Age 66, passed away in Pawtucket, RI, on May, 24. He was born in Boston, Massachusetts on June 9^th 1952 to the late William Robert and Mary W. Bowman.  He is survived by his son, Warren S. Bowman Jr. of Boston, sisters Sherry A. Bowman, Phyllis M. Fallon, Gail Bowman of Middleboro, MA, Virginia Bowman of New Bedford, MA, Delilah E. Bowman of Temecula, CA, brothers William Robert Bowman, Jr of Beverly, MA, Jeffery M. Bowman of Rancho Mirage, CA and a very special cousin who is like a brother, Dana Clark of Milton, MA.  He is also survived by his nieces Leigha E. Earl, Leigha Ashlee Okoye of Milton and nephew Chinedu M. Okoye of London, UK.
