Lorraine M. (Andrews) Connolly of Dorchester and South Boston,  died on November 5, 2019.  Beloved mother of Robert Connolly and his wife Marianne of Millis, Edward Connolly and his wife Paula of Walpole and Ann Brosnihan of Whitman.  Sister of the late Robert Andrews.  Cherished grandmother of Leigh Ann Martin, Erin Brosnihan, Peter Connolly, Rachael Connolly and Michael Connolly.

Lorraine was born in Boston and raised in South Boston.  She enjoyed trips to the Casino where she could spend hours playing the slot machines.  Most of all Lorraine Loved spending time with her children and grandchildren who were the center of her life.  She also had a special devotion to St. Jude. Lorraine will be missed by all who had the pleasure to have known her.

Relatives and friends are respectfully to attend visiting hours on Tuesday, November 12, 2019 from 10:00am-12:00PM in the Dolan Funeral Home, 1140 Washington Street, Dorchester Lower Mills.  Interment in Blue Hill Cemetery, Braintree. Janet Louise Ochs, 73, of Quincy, passed away suddenly at home on Thursday, October 31, 2019.

Janet was born in Boston, MA on January, 18, 1946; she was the daughter of the late Howard and Marion (MacKinnon) Ochs; sister of the late Thomas H. Ochs; and aunt of the late Julie (Ochs) Dempsey.  Janet was raised in Quincy, MA and attended the local schools.  She graduated from Cambridge School majoring in Medical Secretarial which she graduated with honors and was elected to the National Business Honor Society. Janet made her career at Boston University working as an Administrative Assistant and Administrative Officer in Department of Dermatology and retired several years ago.

Janet spent many summers growing up on Bear Island, Lake Winnipesaukee at her, grandfather and grandmother’s summer home. She also spent many of years at her parent’s second home in Sanbornton, NH.  Janet enjoyed outdoor activities such as cross-country skiing, snowmobiling, and canoeing on the lake.

Janet spent countless hours in the kitchen as she was a great cook/baker.  She enjoyed sharing her special meals and bake goods with her neighbors. She was the matriarch of the neighborhood and all the neighbors appreciated her very much. Janet took tremendous pride in her property and garden.  The City of Quincy recently awarded Janet as one of 30 “Neat Neighbors” in the city.

Janet is survived by two great nephews of New Hampshire; sister-in-law Lillian R. (Chiano) Ochs, of Plymouth, MA and several cousins.

Visiting hours will be held Wednesday, November 13, 2019 from 5-7:30pm at the Dolan Funeral Home, 460 Granite Ave., EAST MILTON SQUARE.  A Memorial Service will be held at Dolan Funeral Home at 7:30 pm.  Interment will be private.

John F. McConville, M.D., Retired orthopedic surgeon, died peacefully surrounded by his family on June 17, 2019. He was 92.

Dr. McConville practiced at the Carney and South Shore Hospitals. He served as Chief of Orthopedic Surgery and President of the Medical Staff during his career at the South Shore Hospital. He was a member of the Norfolk South Medical Society, the New England Orthopedic Society and the Massachusetts Medical Society.

Raised in North Dighton, he was the devoted son of the late Harry and Ellen McConville. He was the loving brother of the late Robert S. McConville.

He was a graduate of Coyle High School, Boston College and Tufts University School of Medicine.

John was an avid reader and maintained a lifelong interest in history. He enjoyed attending the Civil War discussion group at the Captain Forbes Museum. He was a member of the Milton Historical Society. He may be best remembered for his warmth, sense of humor, wit, and keen intellect. He enjoyed lifelong friendships with many people.

John was the devoted husband of Hertha for 63 years. Affectionately known as “Da”, he was the loving father of John, Mary, Owen and his wife Katherine, Alicia and her husband Richard, Christine, Luke and his wife Katelyn, Kathryn and her husband John, Julie, Elizabeth and her husband Seth, and the late Ellen.

He was the loving grandfather of Helen Corcoran, Michael, Julie, Meghan and Max McConville, Richard, Louise and William Gedney, Luke, Eleanor, Henry and Charles McConville, John, Charlotte, Christine, Thomas and George Flatley, Robert and Peter Dixon and John Chandler.

He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. His family held a private Mass this summer.

Ivor Martin, 75, of Dorchester, passed away on Saturday, October 19, 2019 surrounded by his loving family.

Beloved husband of Hermy Martin. Loving father of Judith, Triciagay, Brian, Alexi, Oma, and Andre Martin.

Stephen Power, of Milton, Pocasset and recently a resident of Linden Ponds in Hingham, passed away on Nov. 6, 2019 surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Ardmore, Co. Waterford, Ireland in 1932, Steve came to this country at the age of 23 and established a successful masonry contracting business. A former member of the Cork Football Club and the Knights of Columbus, Steve enjoyed dozens of family excursions to family home in Ardmore, County Waterford as well as memorable trips to Italy, Portugal, the Caribbean and Australia. Steve was a generous, personable man who enjoyed Cape Cod cookouts with family and friends and Irish parties where he was well known for his singing, especially his signature song, “The Rocks of Bourne.”

Steve leaves his beloved wife, Ellen (Walsh) Power. Loving father of Declan Power of Milton, Stephen Power and his wife Cassi of Cincinnati, Elizabeth Power Lydon and her husband Joe of Milton, Nicholas Power and his wife Julie of Milton and Michael Power of Cincinnati. Steve also leaves eight grandchildren: Sarah and Declan Power, Emily and Maggie Power, Jack and Michael Lydon and Nicholas and Matthew Power. He was the brother of Declan Power, Sister Declan Power, Josie Dullea and Anne Phelan of Ireland: Nicholas Power of Florida, and the late Margaret Power Carr, John Power, Henry Power and Michael Power. He also leaves many nieces, nephews, sisters-in law, and brothers-in-law.

Chris Long, 78, of Dorchester, passed away on Sunday, November 3, 2019.

Born on July 7, 1941, he grew up in Jonesville, SC and was raised by his grandmother, Bessie Humphries, better known as Granny Doll (deceased).

Chris met his wife Eloise Long from Pacolet, SC in 1960 where they were married for 50+ years. Chris and Eloise left South Carolina for Boston in 1961 to find better opportunities for their family, which included three daughters and one son. Alice Faye Gadsden of Lincoln, RI, Beverly Denise Long of Atlanta, GA, Dolores Norris of Boston and the late Christopher Long.

Chris worked as a mason with Demetruis Lodge, serving his community for numerous years which he enjoyed immensely. He spent most of his career as a butcher at Newmarket Square in Boston where he enjoyed cutting meat and supplying to the local Boston restaurants.

He leaves behind his wife Eloise, daughters Alice, Beverly and Dolores a sister in-law Thelma Gist of Pacolet, SC, brother in-law, Walter Lee Gist of Long Beach, CA, 2 grandchildren, Jacorey Gadsden and Christina Long as well as a slew of friend. Predeceased by his son Chris, his parents James Long and Alice Goforth and his brother James Long.

John F. Kelley, of Milton, formerly of Dorchester and Mattapan, passed away Friday, November 1, 2019.

Beloved husband of the late Christine M. (Lyons). Devoted father of Christine M. Tynan and her husband Steven of Milton, John J. Kelley and his wife Krisann of Boston, and Marianne K. Pekrul and her husband Todd of Pembroke. Cherished Papa of Sean and Kevin Kelley, Christopher, Colleen and Caitlin Pekrul, and Lily Tynan. Son of the late William J. Kelley and Mabel M. (Fauchea). John was predeceased by brothers Billy, Paul, Eddie, Jimmy and sisters Marie, Margie, Claire (Bell) and Therese. Dear friend of Thomas “Whitey” O’Hara.

Doris (Godin) Darveau, of Milton, died on October 30, 2019 at the Elizabeth Seton Residence in Wellesley.

Beloved wife of the late Dr. Eli J. Darveau, she was the loving mother of Dr. Richard T. and his wife Jane (Calvo) of Reading, Susan D. Murphy and her husband Arthur of Milton, Peter J. and his wife Mary (Menna) of Sudbury, Jane M. Clair of Dover and her late husband Mark and James E. and his wife Linda (Murphy) of Tewksbury. Sister of the late Evelyn Veneziano and Leona Morin. Doris is also survived by ten grandchildren, three great grand-grandchildren, a nephew, two nieces, and several grandnieces and grandnephews.

Doris was born and raised in Madison, Maine, daughter of the late Ida (LeClair) and Xavier Godin.  She was a compassionate nurse who trained at the Sisters’ Hospital in Waterville, ME. She was also a talented artist who enjoyed painting, crafts and cooking.  Most of all, Doris loved her family, which was the cornerstone of her life.  She will be dearly missed by all who had the pleasure to have known and loved her.

Milliadaire Joseph Syverain died October 1, 2019, at the age of 92. He was the son of the late Dufrene Syverain and Bernadette Boncoeur Syverain.

He was born in Cayes-Jacmel, Haiti April 7, 1927.  He grew up in Haiti and moved to America in May 1970.  He worked as a machinist for a military plant during the Vietnam War. Later he worked as a taxi driver.  He was shot by a passenger while driving in Florida in late 1982 and spent two months in an intensive care unit at Jackson-Memorial Hospital in Miami.  He survived with a tracheostomy tube for his breathing ever since.  He kept his enthusiasm for sports, family, friends, and politics. He was married three times. 

He was the father of Dr. Jean Etienne Thibaud, Marie Fernande Syverain, Jean Wilfrid Thibaud, Gertha Sanon, Pierre Rock Thibaud, Bernadette Sylverain (deceased), Dr. Milliardaire Syverain Jr, Rose-Marie Chery, Dufresne Syverain, Taryn Jude C. Syverain, Kasseem Syverain, Tracy Jude C. Syverain, and Dr. Fabrice Pascal.  In addition, he left behind several nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Ulrick Sanon, Mathieu Syverain, Clarajyne Thibaud, Marsha Syverain, Jean-Etienne Thibaud Jr, Johanna Joseph, Josue Thibaud, Berenice Linda Sylverain, Jean-Dykenson Rene, Kisha Syverain, Milliardaire Yves Rashid Kwame Syverain III, Denae Syverain, Wilmico Thibaud, Laeticiah Grace Pascal, Renes Jude Syverain, Sasha Syverain, Marc Syverain, Jacob Anderson Syverain.  He left behind sons and daughters-in-Law, Sambois Duperval Rene, Clarele Alcide Thibaud, Yve-Renee Jeremie Syverain, Yole Rochambeau Syverain, and Dr. Tatiana Jean-Francois Pascal. 

He was the brother of the late Orica Syverain Constantin and Ilfrene Syverain.  He is survived by his sister Princina Syverain Romain. His friends called him Joe, Guèguè, and Dè.

Milliadaire Joseph Syverain worked hard all his life to provide for his family.  He believed that education holds the key to true liberty.

His funeral mass was held in Saint Bernadette Catholic Church in Randolph, Massachusetts on October 19, 2019, followed by a reception of his life celebration at Lombardo’s in Randolph  His body was carried to Haiti and buried in Parc du Souvenir in Tabarres on October 26, 2019.
