Mary A. Brewster was the youngest child born to Ethel Middleton Brewster and George H. Brewster in Boston, Massachusetts on January 1, 1926. She departed life on June 13, 2020.

Mary and her brother George grew up spending time with their friends on Hammond Street, Roxbury and with their grandmother, Mary Middleton (Fannie Farmer’s cook) on Joy Street in Boston.  Mary attended and graduated from elementary school and high school in Boston.  Mary attended dance and ballet classes with dreams of becoming a ballerina.  Her friends described her as a high energy, enthusiastic, personable conversationalist with a genuine interest in people.

Mary’s first job was in manufacturing during America’s involvement in World War II in the 1940’s. Her first volunteer position was working with the USO during evenings and weekends. Mary worked various full time and part time jobs including the BF Goodrich Company, the Hood Rubber company, Chase Manhattan Bank, MIT the Attorney General’s office and others.

Mary traveled to Europe, Jerusalem (Israel), Bermuda, Jamaica, Canada and many of the United States including Washington DC, California, Arizona, New York, New England, etc.

Mary’s favorite hobbies included eating all types of potatoes – she said they kept her going, painting, drawing, shopping, debating & discussing politics –  she frequently wrote letters to Presidents and other elected officials. She also attended ballet performances, art galleries, museums and other events.

Mary was a resident of Roxbury, Boston, Weymouth and Brookline.  She was a member of the Tremont Temple Baptist Church and a loving and faithful friend to many.

She is survived by her Niece Leila & nephews Vern and Gregory, great nieces Letia Knight & Alicia Coleman, great nephew Shane Coleman, great-great niece Azariah Knight of Massachusetts.  Ms. Dorothy Hinds of Ontario, CA, Ms. Sandra Warren of Randolph, MA, Ms. Sylvia Perry of Lincoln, MA and many friends.

William E. Bilodeau, of Milton. Passed away on June 20^th, 2020.

Husband of Anne Bilodeau of Milton. Survived by his daughter Lauren Dickerman and her husband Brandon Dickerman of Mansfield, MA and his daughter Kasey Bilodeau and her fiancé Jordan Goodman of Holly Ridge, NC.  Also survived by many extended family members. Son of John and Wilma Bilodeau.

Interment services will be private.

Barbara Ann (Murdock) Harnden of Milton died on Thursday, June 25, 2020, passing away peacefully at home after a valiant seven-year battle with cancer.  She was 63 years old. 

Born September 15, 1956 to the late Vincent and Virginia Murdock, she was raised in Milton, graduated Milton High School in 1974 and graduated the University of Massachusetts-Amherst in 1978.

Beloved wife of Kevin Harnden, Barbara was the loving mother of Charles Harnden and his wife Amanda of Easton, Erin Harnden Young and her husband Barry of Braintree and Jonathan Harnden and his wife Vicky of Pembroke. She was the cherished grandmother of Allison and Nicholas Young and Jacob and Lexia Harnden. She is also survived by her three sisters Virginia (Chester) Freeman of Quincy, Carolyn (Rodney) Fritz of Milton and Jane Murdock of Houston, Texas, and her adoring nephews and nieces – Andrew, John and Christopher Freeman,  Anna, Joseph and Neal Fritz, Laura Duplissis and Andrew LeBrun. 

Barbara worked for many years performing billing and analysis in nursing home settings, and for Medicare and Medicaid in Massachusetts with Hewlett-Packard and later with Maximus, Inc., retiring in 2018.  She also worked for DeWolfe Real Estate in Milton.  But her favorite job was undoubtedly back in the 1970s and early 1980s when she worked for the Hendrie’s Ice Cream Plant in Milton, making ice cream novelties and happily driving a forklift.

Barbara’s family meant everything to her.  She and Kevin hosted countless family birthdays, Christmas Eve festivities, and Easter brunches. They enjoyed their many summer vacations to the mountains of New Hampshire, as well as visits to Bermuda and any local golf course that would allow them to hack up the turf. They were also 30 year members of the Cunningham Couples Club bowling league.  Ever cheerful and optimistic, throughout her life Barbara made and kept wonderful friends everywhere she went.  Her UMass friends aptly nicknamed her “Bubbles.”

Her family is especially grateful to her dear friends Judy & Phil Santosuosso, Ann and George Noonan, and Jane Driscoll for their unfailing kindness, love and support during her illness, and also most grateful to the First Parish Unitarian-Universalist and First Congregational Churches of Milton, their pastors, staffs and congregations for the great comfort, support and many prayers they so generously provided.  

A private family service was held.  A memorial service will be held for family and friends at a later date.

John Edward Larkin, Jr. of Rockland, formerly of Dorchester, passed away on Tuesday, June 23 surrounded by his loved ones. John was the beloved husband of the late Priscilla (Pagel) Larkin. Devoted father of Adelaide Burke of Quincy, Warren Hoppie of Whitman, Nancy Palhete of Rockland, Arlene MacDonald of Holbrook, Al Hoppie, Joan Edlin and Sue Larkin all of Marshfield, Priscilla McMahon of Pembroke, Shirley Larkin of Whitman, Alexander Larkin of New Hampshire, Scott Larkin of Marshfield and the
late Richard Hoppie and John Edward Larkin, III. Brother of Trudy McLocklin of Littleton, Albert Larkin of Norfolk and Rita Elsmore of Rockland. Also survived by 34 grandchildren, 57 great grandchildren and 6 great great grandchildren.

John was a Red Sox fan and loved playing cards and shooting pool at the Rockland Senior Center.Retired member of District Council 35, Local 579 Painter’s Union. John was a US Navy Korea Veteran.

Mary A. (Coffey) Crowley, of Quincy, formerly of Fort Lauderdale, FL and Roxbury, died at Hancock Park Nursing Home in Quincy, Tuesday June 23, 2020. She was 103 years old.

Born and raised in Roxbury, she was a graduate of Holy Trinity Grammar and High Schools in Roxbury. Mary was a clerk for Patterson, Wilde & Windeler Insurance Company of Boston before she and her husband moved to Fort Lauderdale in 1961. Mary returned to Massachusetts in 1989, settling in Quincy.

Wife of the late Timothy Crowley. Sister of the late John F. Coffey and Anna Coffey. Aunt of Michael D. Coffey of Washington, John J. Coffey of Pembroke and Gerald F. Coffey and his wife Pat of East Bridgewater. Mary is also survived by many loving great-nieces and great-nephews.

Visitation and Funeral Mass will be private. Interment St. Paul’s Cemetery, Arlington.

Thomas W. Hayes of Milton, formerly of Brick, NJ, Williston Park, NY and Brooklyn, NY, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, June 20, 2020. 

He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 69 years, Harriet L. Hayes and his son, Howard F. Hayes. He is survived by his children, Therese Wills and her husband, Richard of Niantic, CT; Colleen Hession and her husband, Michael of West Dennis, Ma; Peg Sheridan and her husband Joseph of Westfield, NJ; Thomas Hayes and his wife Janet of Manhasset, NY; and Janet Hayes and her husband Peter Bongiorno of Milton, Ma. He was also the father of the late Howard Hayes, and is survived by his wife, Cathy.

Tom so enjoyed the blessing of his grandchildren including: Erin and Meghan Hayes, Elizabeth Chou and her husband Jonathan, Richard, and Bryan Wills, Michael and Patrick Hession, Thomas Sheridan and his wife, Mattie, Kate and Colleen Sheridan, Lauren and Michael Hayes, Gabrielle, Isabelle and Peter Bongiorno.  He was the Great Grandfather of Madeline and Everett Chou.

Tom was a Marine combat veteran of WWII, enlisting at seventeen and serving with the 612th Marine Rocket Squadron, 61st Marine Air Group in Saipan, Iwo Jima and Okinawa. The Marine motto of Semper Fidelis touched every part of his life. 

After his discharge, he served in the New York Police Department for a few years then became a proud member of the New York Fire Department, a career that spanned over thirty years culminating in the rank of Battalion Chief. He also volunteered as a firefighter in Williston Park, NY.

Having lost his mother, Mary, at a very young age, he was determined to provide a warm, loving and stable home for his growing family, frequently working three jobs. His memories of those busy years were marked by gratitude to his devoted wife, Harriet for managing, “All those kids, all by herself.”

He installed a picnic table in the kitchen to accommodate everyone as eating meals together was especially important. There was never a pause in conversation in his Irish household, and he made sure to take an interest in each of his children’s lives from volunteering to drive the parish bus for soccer games to supporting their various sports and arts.

A favorite story was to describe  “ …the first time I saw your Mother, as she was leaning over the railing of the boardwalk at Coney Island.”  He thought he was merely sheltering under the boardwalk to avoid another sunburn but he was smitten, to be sure. He shared the struggle of a young couple, with their first apartment being a single room, with a shared bathroom and kitchen. Their marriage of sixty-nine years was marked by mutual respect, love of country and fidelity to their Catholic faith.

He loved to travel, devouring books and maps, and always planning his next trip. Besides Europe, Alaska, Hawaii and the Caribbean, he loved spending time on Cape Cod and Florida. He was an exceptional gardener, enjoying the outdoors planting flower beds and tending shrubs. As a voracious reader and music lover, he delighted in all genres.

Due to the ongoing restrictions, a celebration of his life will be held at a later date.

Margaret A. Wallace (Kelly) lifelong of Dorchester, died on June 21, 2020. 

Beloved wife of 56 years of Thomas P. Wallace of Dorchester.  Loving mother of Theresa Scanlan of Dorchester, Karen Brennan and her husband Michael of Quincy, Catherine and Deborah Wallace both of Dorchester.  Sister of Robert Kelly of Westford, Mary McKenna of Bridgewater, Ann Madden of Yarmouth Port, Dorothy Brown of Attleboro and the late Walter Crowley.  Cherished grandmother of Michael Molinari of Colorado, Katelyn and Molly Brennan of Quincy.

Margaret was born, raised and lived her entire life in Dorchester.  She had a lengthy career in the banking industry, starting at First National Bank and ending with Santander Bank.  Margaret was a member of the K Club at Florian Hall  in Dorchester.  She enjoyed Bingo and playing computer games.  Most of all Margaret loved spending time with her family who were the cornerstone of her life.  She will be missed by all who had the pleasure to have known and loved her.

Visiting hours will be on Wednesday 3:00-7:00PM in the Dolan Funeral Home, 1140 Washington Street, DORCHESTER LOWER MILLS.  Interment will be private.

Edward Francis Petras of Middleboro, died on June 19, 2020.

Devoted father of Michelle Sena and her husband David of Bridgewater, Christine Petras of Middleboro and Edward Petras of Brockton.  Brother of Janet Cavanaugh of Connecticut, Stephen Petras of Mansfield and the late Karen Petras.  Cherished Poppy of Domenic and  Sophia Sena,  Sean Petras and Kayla Nilson. 

Edward was born in Boston and lived in Mattapan most of his life.  He was known for his social personality and good nature.  Ed enjoyed getting together with his groups of friends from Dorchester and his Post Office group.  He was an avid sports fan, baseball and football were his favorites.  Most importantly he loved his family who meant the world to him.  He will be sadly missed by all who had the pleasure to have known and loved him.

Mary Elizabeth (Pierce) Kelliher passed away peacefully on June 16, 2020. She was 87.

Mary was predeceased by her husband of 43 years Charles F. Kelliher and her son Michael J. Kelliher. She was dearly loved by daughters Michelle Kelliher Lane of Wellesley, Margaret Foley of Southborough and Suzanne Steffens of Concord and by sons-in-law Paul Lane Jr, Daniel Foley and Peter Steffens. She is survived by nine grandchildren Paul (III), Elizabeth and Caroline Lane, Christen and Brendan Foley, Alexandra, Abigail, William and Kate Steffens. Mary was predeceased by her brother Richard Pierce and sister Margaret Pierce. She is survived by her loving sister Katherine and her husband Robert Whyte of Lexington and her sister-in-law Mary (Burke) Pierce of Cumberland, RI and several wonderful nieces and nephews.

Mary graduated from Mount Saint Joseph’s Academy and Boston State Teachers College. She taught kindergarten for many years in Boston and then nursery school at the Carriage House School in Milton until she retired. In addition to her family, Mary loved to read, garden and travel.

Services are private.  Burial Milton Cemetery.

Rupert A. M. Davis of Arlington, Massachusetts died suddenly from a heart condition on June 4th.

Named after the English poet Rupert Brooke, Rupert was born in London, England in 1949 and raised in Norfolk.  After the death of his father, Col. Peter Davis, a doctor, in 1961, his mother, Valerie (Martin) Davis, married Dr. Jack N.P. Davies, a renowned medical pathologist.  Following his stepfather’s postings, the family lived for several years in Uganda, and emigrated to Albany, New York where Rupert attended the Albany Academy.  Rupert is survived by his half-brother Nigel Davis and his sister-in law Anne Davies, both of New York State, and by his cousin Cherry Edgerton-Bird of Maryland. 

Rupert studied art history and historic preservation at Boston University, and worked as an archivist and researcher at Harvard’s Widener Library and the Bostonian Society, executive director of the Boston Preservation Alliance, and store manager of Schoenhof’s Foreign Books and Shaker Workshops. He was a devoted congregant at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Cambridge, where he sang in the choir. He was a longtime member of the Boston Athenaeum and an avid reader, deeply informed on subjects ranging from Medieval architecture and liturgical vestments to the peccadilloes of the British royal family. Rupert was a committed preservationist and antiquarian, active in the New England Chapter of the Victorian Society in America, the Gibson House and the Old Schwamb Mill. Although he lived his entire adult life in the United States, he never lost his English accent, nor his courtly charm and delightfully raffish sense of humor. In every setting, he cultivated lasting friendships, and will be keenly missed.

A service will be held at St. Peter’s Church once social distancing restrictions allow in-person gatherings.
