Crosbie J. Lawlor, 89, of Milton formerly of Dorchester passed away on Monday, April 15, 2019.

Born in Boston on July 3, 1929 to his loving parents, Jeremiah and Helen (McLaughlin) Lawlor. Crosbie graduated from Boston College High School in 1947 and Boston College in 1951.  He then went on to proudly serve as a Forward Observer with the US Army during the Korean War. He served in combat as a 1^st Lieutenant and after several years in the Army Reserve ended his service as a Captain.   

After the military, Crosbie worked for New England Telephone/NYNEX. He had many positions during his 30+ years of work, but he found his niche in the marketing and sales departments. He was especially proud of his work establishing NIKE missile sites throughout New England.

Growing up in Dorchester, he met the love of his life, Mary Ridge. They were married on July 7, 1951 and shared almost 67 happy years together.

Crosbie was proud of his service in the US Army and always looked forward to his reunions. In 2018, he was awarded the Ambassador for Peace medal by the South Korean government. He was a proud member of the VFW and the Knights of Columbus.

Crosbie was an avid reader, he enjoyed playing cribbage, bowling, taking walks in the rain and gardening; he had a large and productive plot at the Community Garden at Cunningham Park. He volunteered for many years at St. Gregory Church and was an active member of the Council on Aging. Most important to Crosbie was spending time with his Mary and their children.

Grandfather of Kathleen, Michael and Patrick Lawlor, Sheila, Nora and Aidan DeBonis, Julia and Rosemary Brewer and Veronica Callahan. Great grandfather of Nolan Francis. Brother of Thomas Lawlor of Quincy and the late John Emmett, Joseph P. and Helen Lawlor. Brother in-law of the late Sr. Cecelia Ridge, MFIC.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Saint Agatha Church, Adams Street at Brook Road, Milton, Tuesday, April 23 at 10:30 AM. Relatives and friends invited. Visiting hours at Dolan Funeral Home, 460 Granite Avenue EAST MILTON SQUARE, Monday, 4-8  PM. Interment Milton Cemetery.

Rosemary (Vosh) Rutecki, of Milton died on April 13, 2019 surrounded by her family.

Joan (Duggan) Morris, of Plymouth, formerly of Braintree, passed away peacefully on April 13, 2019.

Beloved wife of Philip P. Morris of Plymouth.  Loving mother of Carole Sessine and her husband Michael of Pembroke and the late Johanna Brennan  and Philip J. Morris.  Sister of Carole Duggan and Jane P. Foulsham both of Quincy and the late Gertrude McIntyre, Robert Duggan, Frances Pasqualucci, Mary Greene, Barbara Marotta, Joseph Duggan and Claire Duggan.  Cherished grandmother to Martin and Henry Brennan, Michael and Alexandra Sessine and Anna Morris. Dear mother in law of Martin Brennan and Kelley Morris.  Joan is also lovingly survived by many nieces and nephews.

Joan was born in Boston and raised in Quincy; she was a graduate of North Quincy High School.  Joan was a devoted Catholic and for many years a daily communicant of St. Francis of Assisi Parish in Braintree.  Joan’s smile would always be sure to light up a room and her kind heart was always seeing the good in people. She enjoyed cooking and entertaining for family and friends, gardening and tending to her flowers were her favorite pastimes.  Most of all, Joan loved spending time with her family who were truly the cornerstone of her life.  She will be missed by all who had the pleasure to have known and loved her.

James Patrick McCarthy, age 82, of Milton, formerly of Savin Hill, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 6, 2019.

Beloved husband of Mary (LeClaire) McCarthy. Loving father of Andrea McCarthy and her husband Babak Yektafar of Vienna, VA, Kristin McCarthy and her husband Vassilis Serafeimidis of London, England, Peter McCarthy and his wife Cara (Ellis) of Milton and Daniel McCarthy and his wife Debbie Hodin of Arlington. Cherished grandfather to Aidan James, Andreas, Chloe, Theo, Evan, Sophie, and Ella.

Jim was born in Savin Hill, MA to Patrick (Mac) and Rose (O’Donnell). He was a loving brother to Patricia (McCarthy) Powers and her late husband Robert “Elliot” of Savin Hill and Rosemary (McCarthy) Gilmartin and her husband David of Savin Hill. As the only boy, his mother adored Jim and always called him “my Jimmy.”

A very proud Triple Eagle, Jim graduated BC High in 1954, Boston College in 1958, and Boston College School of Law in 1961.  He was a star athlete playing football, baseball and basketball in high school and college. A southpaw speedy pitcher, Jim was a starting pitcher at Boston College, and he was inducted into the BC High Hall of Fame for football.  A season ticket holder for BC football, he was a very devoted lifelong fan. Jim was also an avid tennis player and Captain of the tennis team Killer B’s at the Boston Athletic Club, where he was a member for many years.

Jim served his country proudly in the Air Force and was deployed to Phalsbourg, France during the Berlin Crisis in 1961-62 in the Massachusetts Air National Guard.

After law school and his military service, Jim first served as Assistant Attorney General under Attorney General Robert Quinn, and then as an attorney for Reed, McCarthy and Mulligan, where he worked on a major case that led to the novel and movie starring Paul Newman, The Verdict. Jim then opened his own medical malpractice law firm in Boston where he practiced for the majority of his legal career and represented cases for brain and head trauma that were at the forefront of Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy (CTE). Jim also wrote a novel Fatal Flaws, a medical malpractice thriller.

Jim married the love of his life, Mary LeClaire, in 1963, and they had a wonderful marriage of almost 56 years. They had four children, Andrea, Kristin, Peter and Daniel.  The McCarthy family lived in Dorchester and then moved to Milton.   Later, Jim and Mary moved to Beacon Hill and enjoyed all that Boston had to offer.  They walked everywhere, enjoyed dinning out, cultural events, sports, the Boston Public Library, the MFA, the Gardner Museum and strolling the Common.

Jim very much enjoyed spending time with his family in Westport, the Cape and the Vineyard.  In the early years when their children were young, Jim and Mary spent glorious summer holidays in Westport enjoying water-sports, quahogging, golfing, eating lobster and having a cold gin and tonic on the deck. Later, there were annual family summer vacations on the Cape where he loved spending time with all of his children and grandchildren, going to the beach and playing golf, as well as many 4th of July adventures on the Vineyard with Peter, Cara, Chloe, and Sophie.

Jim and Mary had a love of traveling. They went to Bermuda, Aruba, Barbados and St. Croix among other destinations in the early years and later loved traveling to Europe, including Paris, Italy, Greece and visiting their daughter Kristin and her husband Vassilis and their sons Andreas and Theo in London. They always had an adventure to share or random amusing encounter with a stranger who later became a friend.  As a lovely and chatty couple, they could even befriend the grumpiest of London bus drivers.

They also enjoyed their visits to the Washington, DC area with Andrea, Babak, and Aidan, and Lake Sunapee with Dan, Debbie, Evan and Ella.

As someone who was very young at heart himself, Jim loved his grandchildren.  He was expert at winding them into a frenzy before handing them back to their parents.   He loved to talk to them about school and sports and attend local games.

Jim was a regular at his son Peter’s tavern The 21^st Amendment in Beacon Hill.  He loved to drop in for proper pint of Guinness or the daily special.  His distinctive good looks even got him casted as an extra in the film What’s Your Number when it was filmed there.  He befriended the star Anna Faris and spent the day hanging out with her and her then husband Chris Pratt.

Jim loved to talk history and politics, especially with his wife Mary and son Daniel. He was an avid reader and read both the Boston Globe and the New York Times every day.

Jim was involved in the early days of the Ronald McDonald House at Children’s Hospital.  He also volunteered regularly serving dinners at the Wednesday night supper club for the less fortunate at the Paulist Center in Boston, where he was an active member while they lived in Boston.

Jim will be dearly missed.  His spirit of joy and kindness will live on through his wife, his children and grandchildren and all that loved him.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held in Dolan Funeral Home, 1140 Washington Street, DORCHESTER LOWER MILLS, Saturday, April 13th at 10:30 AM. Visiting hour to be held at 9:30 AM prior to the service. At the request of the family, Interment Private.

Virginette “Virgie Ma” Spencer, of Hyde Park entered into eternal peace on Wednesday, April 3, 2019 surrounded by her loving family.

Virginette was born on March 4, 1954 in Manchester, Jamaica to Garfield Spencer and the late Phyllis “Ma” (Bartley) Allen.  She spent her early childhood in Jamaica where she received her primary education before moving to England with her mother.  In 1969, Virgie moved from London England to Boston, Massachusetts with her mother and stepfather, the late Hyman Allen.

She graduated from the former Girls High School (Roxbury, Massachusetts) in 1972. At the age of 15 Virgie began her life-long career of caring for others as a part-time dietary aid after school at Tufts New England Medical Center. Over the years, she held several jobs in both the public and private sector as a Nurse’s Aide before joining the staff of Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center where she spent more than 30 years working in several departments before joining the staff of the hematology/ oncology department where she served not only as co-worker but mother-nurturer to her counterparts.

Virgie was a founding member of the former Caribbean Culture Center (The Club) where she became an avid cricket fan and formed life-long friendships with her Caribbean community.

Virgie was a caring and dedicated person who loved to cook for her family and friends. She also delighted in visiting her Jamaican homeland where she could immerse in her culture and relax in the sun on the sandy beaches. In her later years, Virgie enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren, and in her garden cultivating her flowers, vegetables, and herbs.

She was the beloved mother of Felicia “Lisa” Spencer and Chaz Spencer. Cherished grandmother of Stephen “Poohda” Spencer, Chaya Spencer, Kaylicia “Joy” Spencer-Dean, and Brooke Lynne Spencer-Holder. Sister of Hyman “Desmond” Allen, Danella “Cherry” Millings, Paulette (Allen) Vass, Danavan Allen, Kenneth Allen, Virginia “Veda” Allen, the late Kingsley “Roy” Allen, and Shaleen Spencer. She also leaves behind a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Her loving guidance, laughter, and quick wit will be dearly missed.

Dorothy C. ( Reynolds) Cronin, Beloved Mother and Grandmother, died peacefully on April 7,2019 at the age of 94.  Dorothy led a life that exemplified strength, compassion, and joy in both good and bad times.  Dorothy met Jack Cronin Sr. (Boston Police Department) during WW2 and they enjoyed 58 happy years of marriage together.  They raised a family in St Gregory’s parish in Dorchester Lower Mills and, in the summers, at Humarock Beach.  Both were active in CYO and other parish activities including monthly socials where Dorothy loved to dance.  In retirement they enjoyed living in West Dennis, MA and Hope Sound, Fla.  Dorothy faced her life test in 1976 when her youngest son Neil broke his neck in a diving accident.  For 30 years Dorothy cared for his every need under overwhelmingly difficult conditions.  She is saluted by all that knew her for her ability to accept physical and emotional hardships while never losing her effervescent and positive outlook on life.

Dorothy Cronin is preceded in death by her husband, John Cronin and son, Neil Cronin, along with sisters Frances Reynolds and Marion Reynolds.  She is survived by her three children; Mary Claire Ballou of Glen, NH and her husband William; Jack Cronin of Lynnfield, MA and his wife Joanne; and Dr. Tom Cronin of Simbsury CT and his wife Ruth.  Dorothy also leaves 6 grandchildren and 9 great-children along with three siblings, Thomas Reynolds of South Yarmouth, MA, Catherine Proctor of Burlington, MA and Margaret Reynolds of Milton, MA.

Visiting Hours will be Thursday, April 11 from 8:30AM to 10 AM, at the Dolan Funeral Home, 1140 Washington St, Dorchester, MA 02124. A Funeral Mass to Celebrate Dorothy’s life well lived will be held at St Gregory’s Church, 2223 Dorchester Ave; Dorchester MA on Thursday, at 11 AM.  Interment at Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne, private with the immediate family.

Marie Angela Kuselias, 71, of Milton, formerly of East Springfield, passed away on Friday, April 5, 2019 at the Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital in Boston.

Marie was a daughter of the late George and Antonia (Saber) Kuselias. She was raised in East Springfield MA and lived in her family home until 2011. She then moved to Milton to live with her sister Christine and her family. Marie had a passion for her family and many friends. Marie loved holiday celebrations, movies, delicious homemade foods and her devoted cat “Sammi”. She and her mother and sisters loved to spend time at the beach every summer. Marie had many friends and always greeted them warmly with a wave or a hug. She was a member of First Congregational Church of Milton.

Marie is survived by her three sisters… Anita Burd and her husband Dennis of Mendon, Leila Blaylock and her husband Clayton of Watertown, Christine Paxhia and her husband Steven of Milton and her brother George Kuselias and his wife Lynn of East Longmeadow. Her cherished nieces and nephews Gina Burd, Eric Burd, Gregory Burd and his wife Kylie, Allison Peters and her husband Matt, Elizabeth Blaylock, Stephen Kuselias and his wife Ashley, Peter  Kuselias and his wife Marilyn, John Kuselias and his wife Julie and Alexander Paxhia will miss her dearly.

Marie’s funeral service will be held on Friday, April 12, 2019 at 10:00A.M. at First Congregational Church, 495 Canton Avenue  in Milton. Visiting hours at Dolan Funeral Home 460 Granite Avenue, EAST MILTON SQUARE, Thursday, April 11, 2019 from 5pm until 8pm.

Vera M. Murphy, 88, of Mattapan passed away on March 31, 2019.

Born in Red Springs, NC to the late McKinley and Estelle (Monroe) McPhatter.  Loving mother of Keith Slade, Michele Slade-Moore and Scott Murphy. Cherished grandmother of Derrick Slade and Tyrell Charles.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Antioch Missionary Baptist Church, 1082 Blue Hill Avenue, Dorchester, Saturday April 6^th at 11:00 AM.  Family and friends invited.  Visiting hour to be held at 10:00 AM prior to the service at the church.  Interment Forest Hills Cemetery.

Rigaud Raymond of Dorchester died on April 1, 2019.  He was a loving husband of 44 years to Kettly Raymond of Dorchester.  Father of Jean Raymond and his wife Judy and Guerly Daphnis and her husband Denis all of Quincy.  Brother of Micel Raymond of Canada, Jean Paul Raymond of New York, Annette Raymond of Haiti and Edith Raymond of Haiti.  Grandfather of Sheine Daphnis, Adassah Daphnis and Asaiah Raymond.

Rigaud Was born in Croix des bouquets, Haiti.  He came to the United States in 1988 where he raised his family in Dorchester.  He worked as mechanic for many years in the automotive industry.  He enjoyed enjoyed watching soccer and was an avid reader.  Most importantly he loved spending time with his family.

Family and friends are invited to attend visitation on Saturday April 13, 2019 from 8:30AM- 10:00AM in Kingdom Hall, 29 Parkman Street, Boston.  A service will follow promptly at 10:00am.
