James “Jim” J. McCue

James “Jim” J. McCue passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 12th with his wife of 55 years by his side. He was surrounded by his loving family in his final days.

Jim was born in 1940 in Dorchester to the late Mary Hurley McCue of Boston and the late Patrick McCue of Ireland and was always proud to be “OFD”, along with his late sister Lorraine McCue. He attended St. Ann’s through 8th grade and graduated from Cathedral High School in 1958. He obtained an Associates Degree from Northeastern University. He joined the Coastguard in 1961 and spent several years in the reserves. He spoke fondly of his “summer cruises” each year and loved sharing stories of basic training with his grandchildren.

He met the love of his life, Deborah Kennedy of Milton in 1963 when the two worked at Gillette. After several attempts at asking her out, she finally accepted and a great love story commenced. The two married in 1965 and moved to Milton where they raised 4 daughters.

Jim worked for the Massachusetts Department of Revenue for over 30 years and retired in 2003. He was a patient supervisor and teacher and was respected and liked by all who had the privilege to work with him. He began a second career as a Pharm Tech, a position he loved as it afforded him the opportunity to work with a lifelong friend and chat with customers.

Jim was an amazing father. He was a “girl Dad” many years before the hashtag. People often asked if he wished for a boy and he would just flash his warm smile and answer, I love my girls! He coached basketball and soccer and was often seen running along the sidelines at The Special Olympics with his youngest daughter Andrea, his angel. In his free time, he loved to garden, bowl and golf and served as PTO president for several years.

Jim was a man of deep faith and was a loyal member of St. Agatha Parish for over 50 years. He was a Lector for many years and would even dust off his talents as an altar server in a pinch!

Papa, as he was affectionately known by his 5 grandchildren was at his happiest when talking about his grandchildren. You have never seen a prouder grandfather. He watched countless sporting events, dance recitals, plays and concerts. Anything his grandchildren did, he wanted to be there and beamed with pride. He made them feel special and important and loved.

Jim was an amazing friend and neighbor. He was always there when needed, shoveling snow for elderly neighbors, looking for a lost child, scaring away a bat in an attic, bailing water out of basements.
Jim is survived by his loving wife, Deborah and 4 daughters: Kristen Gibbons and her husband Paul of Dover, Michelle McCue of Quincy, Jennifer Lando and her husband Phil of Hoffman Estates, IL and Andrea McCue of Milton. He will be forever in the hearts of his grandchildren, Brendan, James and Aidan Gibbons, Emma McCue and Jacob Lando.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Saint Agatha Church, Adams Street at Brook Road, Milton on Friday, December 18 at 11:00AM. Visiting hours at the Dolan Funeral Home, 460 Granite Ave. EAST MILTON, Thursday, 3:00- 7:00PM. Interment private.

Reginald “Norman” Knight

Reginald “Norman” Knight of Dorchester passed away on December 11, 2020.  He was born on October 19, 1929 to Elsie Knight Watson and Hugh Richards, in St. James, Barbados W.I. He was the eldest of four siblings.

Church was always a large part of Norman’s life. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Church in Holders Hill. It was there that he served as an acolyte, and could be found proudly swinging incense whilst catching the eye of many young ladies. Norman also attended the Good Shepherd Boy’s School. Upon leaving school, he worked as Seaman, which gave him the opportunity to travel to numerous islands throughout the Caribbean. He also worked as a Maître D at the Sandpiper Hotel and Coral Reef Club in Barbados, before migrating to Boston, MA in the early 1970s. Here he proudly dedicated 25 years to the Marriott Corporation, again as Maître D and as Banquet Captain. Norman also continued his dedication to church, as a member of The Church of The Holy Spirit for over 30 years where he served as head usher for many of those years.

After retirement, Norman kept busy as ever! He took daily walks, hopped on the T for rides to the Haymarket, and other times just for fun. One of the great joys of his life was caring for his grandchildren who were a part of his daily life.  Norman was known for always giving a helping hand and rarely sitting down. He could be found at many family events, right behind the buffet table, serving food and questioning people who came up for seconds. Norman was full of life and laughter and known in his younger years as a skillful dancer. But if there’s one thing everyone could agree on, it’s Norman’s timeliness. He was always ready several hours before he was expected to be and found others to be late if they dare show up on time. Norman’s kind heart, laughter, and generosity will be missed greatly.

He is preceded by a brother and sister who passed away in their youth, his younger sister Clotilde Dear, and his first wife Hilda Elaine Knight. He is survived by his former wife May Elise Knight, his children Owen, Lorraine, Arlene, Mark (Toni), and Michelle (Ezra). His grandchildren Natashia, Ishla, Jason, Brandon, Adrian, Edwina, Henroy, Mark Jr, Jocelyn, Andrew, Marquis, Phinix, and Gabrielle. His nephews Hugh and Anthony, along with 12 Great Grandchildren, 1 great great- grandchild, his caregiver Pamela and a host of close friends and family.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend visitation on Friday December 18, 2020 9:00am-10:00am in the Dolan Funeral Home, 460 Granite Avenue, East Milton Square.  A funeral service will follow at 10am in the Funeral home.  Interment in Fairview Cemetery, Boston.

Denise Taylor

Denise Taylor, 64, passed away at her residence in Boston, MA on December 11, 2020 of natural causes.

Denise, affectionately known to her family as “Teece”, was born in Boston, MA on June 27, 1956, and raised in Boston and Milton, MA.  She was a graduate of the Milton High School’s Class of 1974, and received her BA in Business Management Administration from American InterContinental University on August 8, 2015, at the ripe young age of 59. She retired as an Administrative Assistant from the U.S. Department of Labor Employee Benefit Security Administration in 2018, after 26 years of dedicated service.  Diagnosed with epilepsy at the age of 5, Denise faced many obstacles and hardships her entire life; but she never once let epilepsy define who she was.

Denise’s first love was music, and she was a very gifted world class piano and organ player.  She began playing the piano and organ at the age of five.  She was adept at reading, writing, teaching, and playing all kinds of music; but her true passion was in gospel music and playing for our Lord, and Savior Jesus Christ.  Denise was a member of Bethlehem Healing Temple of the Apostolic Faith Church in Boston, MA for almost fifty years, where she served as the Music Director and Sunday School Teacher.

Denise’s second love was the children of Bethlehem Healing Temple. More than two decades ago, Denise established the Bethlehem Healing Temple Clothe-the-Children Back-to-School Program, and the Bethlehem Healing Temple Christmas Program, two special events that take place every year in August and December.  Donations from Denise, various Department of Labor agencies, and other caring philanthropists throughout New England enabled her to purchase clothing, toiletries, and school supplies for many underprivileged young people in the Boston area.  In addition, the August event included a summer outing to an amusement park, on a privately chartered bus. You can see her story on past Boston Neighborhood News (BNN) Interviews Denise Taylor with Joe Roeland and find her in the Boston Herald archives with 4 articles written by Peter Gelzin.  Denise has received many accolades for her community volunteer work, including the Exceptional Volunteer Service Award from the Department of Labor.

Denise also enjoyed writing poetry, and often wrote poetry describing the various issues that society faces in our day-to-day lives.  Denise was actively involved in the Epilepsy Foundation of New England.  The Epilepsy Foundation assisted Denise in obtaining employment with the Department of Labor.  Over the past several years, Denise has performed her piano, organ, and singing talents at various Epilepsy Foundation events, demonstrating that individuals with epilepsy can live a full and productive life.

Denise is survived by her siblings, Ralph Taylor, Debra Taylor, Joan Taylor, Glenn Taylor (Benigna), Ron Taylor, Linda Taylor, John Taylor, and James Taylor, Jr. (Lucille), and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.  She was preceded in death by her parents, Delores Barnett Taylor and James Taylor, and her siblings Jeffrey Johnson and Gloria Taylor.

A private memorial service was followed by burial at Milton Cemetery, 211 Centre Street, Milton, MA 02186.  In lieu of flowers, the family recommends that donations be made in her memory to the Epilepsy Foundation of New England https://epilepsynewengland.org/

Post COVID-19 and at the convenience of the family, there will be a celebration of her life so that all her many friends and family can attend.
