Louise M. O'Meara

a retired secretary, died Friday July 17 at Weymouth Healthcare, after a long illness. She was 95 years old.

Born in Boston, she grew up in Dorchester and was a graduate of Hyde Park High School. She worked at Stone and Webster Engineering in Boston for several years before moving to New York City. She worked for Chemical Construction Company for over twenty years, retiring in 1970.

Miss O’Meara was a communicant of Saint Patrick’s Cathedral when she lived in New York.

Beloved daughter of the late Daniel L. and Grace (Gallagher) O’Meara. Sister of Stephen H. O’Meara of Dorchester and the late Grace Kelly, Daniel L. O’Meara Jr., John F. O’Meara, James a. O’Meara, Gerard M. O’Meara and Martha Horne. Aunt of Suzanne M. Johnson and Peter H. O’Meara and several other nieces and nephews.

Carol A. (Donnelly) Connor

a retired registered nurse, died Sunday July 19, at her home in Quincy. She was 66 years old.

Born and raised in Charlestown, she was a longtime resident of Quincy.
Mrs. Connor retired from Boston City Hospital.

Beloved wife of Thomas P. Connor. Mother of Thomas P. Connor of Quincy, Karen M. Vasselian of Abington, William C. Connor and Kerry A. Reilly, both of Randolph. Daughter of the late John and Ann (Warren) Donnelly of Charlestown. Beloved sister of Ellen Marie Raso of Medford and the beloved “Auntie” of John Raso of Medford, Lynne M. Koeller and Carol A. Smith, both of North Reading and Stephen W. Raso of Haverhill.

John J. McCarthy, Jr.

of Boston and Indian Wells, CA, died suddenly on July 16, 2009. He was the chairman and owner of Trans-Lease Group, a major transportation company headquartered in New England. The company was founded over 100 years ago by his grandfather, an Irish immigrant, who delivered ice and coal by horse and wagon to homes in the Brockton and Easton areas.

John was born in Brockton, grew up in Milton and was a long-time resident of Wellesley. He was the son of the late John and Isabel McCarthy. He attended Tabor Academy and was a 1954 graduate of Holy Cross College. He also served as a lieutenant in the U. S. Navy, working in naval intelligence.

John was an avid golfer throughout his life and was a member of several country clubs, including Brae Burn, Nantucket Golf Club and Desert Horizons in Indian Wells, CA. A proud Red Sox season ticket holder for more than 50 years, one of John’s greatest pleasures was watching his beloved Sox, not only at Fenway and at home, but also on reruns. Another part of his daily ritual was attacking the morning paper’s crossword puzzle, even before his first cup of coffee.

A kind and compassionate man, John was a generous supporter of numerous charities in Massachusetts and California. His anonymous contributions enabled many deserving students to further their education.

John is survived by his loving wife and best friend Carol Gray McCarthy. He is also survived by daughter Mary Lynne McCarthy of New York City; son John J. McCarthy, III, and his wife Maureen of Cohasset; daughter Christina McCarthy Kepple and her husband Douglas of New York City; son James McCarthy of Boston; and stepson Charles Gray of Bermuda Dunes, CA. John was the proud grandfather of Isabel and Kate McCarthy. He is also survived by his former wife, Mary Morley McCarthy; his sister Ann Dederding and her husband Helmut of New York City; and nieces Lisa Weiss and Mary Adele Burke, both of Dedham, and their families.

His family, friends and employees will miss John’s genuine kindness, loving generosity, the twinkle in his eye and his quick-witted sense of humor which was always followed by a hearty laugh.

Thomas R. DeSimone

passed away on July 5, 2009 in North Weymouth after battling non-Hodgkins Lymphoma for 4 years. Tom graduated from Somerville High School in 1958, and the Boston Naval Shipyard Apprentice School in 1963 as a Journeyman Electronics Mechanic.

He was employed as a civil service worker for the US Navy 1963-1973 at the Boston Naval Shipyard, worked for General Dynamics in Groton, CT from 1973-1981 and from 1981-1988 he worked as an engineer for the US Air Force at the Hanscom AFB. Mr. DeSimone retired from the US government on April 1, 1988 after 28 years of service.

Tom was an avid jogger and loved to discuss politics. He was very interested in the Cape Wind Project.

He is survived by daughters, Susan and Jennifer DeSimone, son-in-law, Sujoy Guha, granddaughter, Anjoli, brother Louis DeSimone, Sr. and sisters Christine Lynch and Frances Lecesse.

Memorial service Tuesday, July 21, from 11 am to 1 pm at Dolan Funeral Home, 460 Granite Avenue, Milton with Rev. Sara Marean officiating at 12 Noon.

Eleanor P. (Little) Morrill

83, a longtime resident of West Quincy, died peacefully on Wednesday, July 15, 2009 at Marina Bay Nursing Home in Quincy.

Eleanor, known to all as “Nell” or “Kerry”, was born in County Cork, Ireland and was the daughter of the late Thomas E. and Ellen F. (O’Brien) Little.

A graduate of Quincy High School, Mrs. Morrill retired as a Department Manager from New England Telephone and Telegraph after a 37 year career.

She was an avid sports fan, an accomplished golfer, and she was happiest working in her garden and telling her wonderful stories.

She was deeply involved with her family and took special interest in the lives of her nieces and nephews.

Beloved wife of Paul Morrill. Sister of the late Thomas, Francis, John, William, Kevin, and Noel Little and Mary Spellman and Bridgette McGovern. Eleanor is survived by several nieces and nephews.

Francis Martin "Frank" Hutchinson

of Milton, July 10, 2009 at age 91.

Born in Boston, he graduated from Cathedral High School, Boston, where he was president of his class and captain of the football team. He served in the US Navy as a Chief Petty Officer, fire control officer on the USS Simpson during WWII. Frank was a communicant and choir member of St. Gregory Church and member of the choir at St. Elizabeth Church, Milton.

He was longtime employee of New England Tel & Tel, retiring as a managing supervisor in the legal dept.

Beloved husband of the late Mary (Kelly) Hutchinson. Beloved father of his longtime caregiver Joseph Hutchinson of Milton, Anne O’Donnell of Framingham, Judith Hutchinson of Jamaica Plain, Kathleen Breslin and her husband John Breslin of Cumberland, RI and Thomas Hutchinson of Quincy. He leaves ten grandchildren: Tommy, Rachel, Hannah and Emma Hutchinson, Stephen O’Donnell, Kate, Julie, Susan and Anne Breslin and the late Mary Elizabeth Hutchinson; and three great-grandchildren: Madeline and Emily Hutchinson and Matthew Furda. Francis is the last of ten children of the late Sabina (Gurley) and Thomas Hutchinson of Ireland and Boston: John, Thomas, Joseph and Paul Hutchinson, Mary Gentile, Katherine Torquato, Margaret Whittemore, Sabina Whittemore and Eleanor Abbasciano. He is survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Paul S. D'Agostino

a builder, died on July 3, 2009 in Arizona of injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident. He was 53 years old.

Born and raised in Dorchester, he was a graduate of Boston Latin School and University of Massachusetts at Amherst. He had a keen interest in Indian culture, had majored in Asian languages and studied for a year in Japan. Mr. D’Agostino was a builder of new homes, entrepreneur and realtor in Santa Fe, NM.

Beloved son of Catherine F. (Bonanno) and the late James A. D’Agostino. Brother of James A. D’Agostino and the late Lynda D’Agostino.

Galen E. "Wiff" Wifholm

a retired salesman, died Thursday July 8 at Good Samaritan Medical Center, West Palm Beach, FL. He was 70 years old.

Born and raised in Milton, he was active in many civic, religious and fraternal organizations, including being elected a Town Meeting Member for 28 consecutive years. He was a co-founder and vice-president of Housing Opportunities for Milton Elderly (HOME, Inc). A past-president of Milton Rotary and Paul Harris Fellow, he was active in the Masons, traveling mainly in the York Rite and appended bodies. Mr. Wifholm was a past commander of the Quincy Commandery and was a Shriner of the Aleppo Temple. He was also a member of the American Legion, International Order of Vikings and National Board of Realtors.

He was owner and president of Wiffco Automotive and worked with Central Automotive Warehouse, traveling Massachusetts and Northern New England selling wholesale automotive parts to auto parts stores. Galen was an accomplished trumpet player, enjoyed good music, golf, gardening, all sports and especially his granddaughters, Katie and Abbey.

He was a resident of Wellington, FL, formerly of Milton and Plymouth. Mr. Wifholm had served as a US Army military policeman during the Vietnam era.

Beloved husband of 45 years to Nancy (Callen) Wifholm. Loving father of Galen Wifholm Jr. and Kristen Tara Kerl and her husband Doug and their children Katherine and Abigail Kerl, all of FL. Survived by a cousin who was more like a brother, M. Henry Wifholm of Hollis NH, brother-in-law of Paula Hobart of FL and Kevin and Susan Callen of Hingham and uncle of Dawn Wight, Glenn Wight, Kristina Callen and Paul Callen.

Emily Adelaide (Robertson) Lane

died peacefully at Marina Bay Nursing Home, Tuesday July 7 at the age of 97.

She was born and brought up in Boston and attended the Boston Public schools. When she married her late husband John E. Lane, they moved to Milton where she resided for 71 years. Emily was an avid reader, gardener and loved to do crossword puzzles.

She is survived by four children, John Lane and his wife Joan of Brewster, William Lane and his wife Mary Ellen of John’s Creek, GA, Judith Lane of Milton and Mary (Lane) Foley of Quincy. She is also survived by two sisters, Mildred Callahan of Marshfield and Bea Mulrean of Margate, FL. She was predeceased by her sisters and brothers, Matilda Barney, Eleanor Morrison and Charles, James and Kenneth Robertson. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.

Frederick C. Kast Jr.

a retired chemist, died Monday July 6 at Brigham and Women’s Hospital. He was 72 years old.

Born and raised in Boston, he was a longtime resident of Milton.

Beloved husband of Claire M. (Robertson) Kast. Loving father of Suzanne Ward of Florida, Linda Brousaides of Virginia, Guy Kast of Stoughton and Douglas Kast of Sharon. Brother of Alice Kast, Charles Kast, Ruth Blenkhorn, Maryann Chapman and the late Clifford Kast. Also survived by nine grandchildren.
