Robert H. Brandt

83, of Quincy, formerly of Marshfield, died on October 7, 2009 at his home after a brief illness. Born and raised in Quincy, Robert was a graduate of Quincy High School and the New England School of Art.

Robert served in the US NAVY during World War II. He was the CEO and President of S. Gunnar Myrbeck & Co., Inc. (S.G.M), an advertising agency.

Robert was a member of the Cyril P. Morrisette Post in Quincy, and he was a member of various Art Associations on the South Shore. Robert also was actively involved with Civic and Historical Associations in Quincy.

Partner of Betty Georgaklis of Quincy. Son of the late Frederick and Jenny Brandt. Father of Tina Brumley of Sweetser, IN and Gail Tarleton of Charlottesville, VA. Brother of Viginia Rogers of Playmouth. Grandfather of Joshua Pierce, Connor Brumley, Leanne and Kelsey Tarleton.

Charles A. Rota

a retired carpenter, died Thursday October 1 at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. He was 84 years old.

Born in Boston, he was a graduate of Milton High School and served in the United States Navy Pacific Fleet during World War II. After discharge he joined the Carpenters Union, Local 67, retiring after forty years.

Mr. Rota was a lifelong resident of Milton and a member of the Italian American Club of Mattapan.

Beloved husband of the late Theresa (Purpura) Rota. Loving father of Linda Barron and her husband John of Sherborn, Daniel Rota and his wife Kathleen of Avon, Thomas Rota and his wife Robin of Pembroke, Stephen Rota and his wife Charisse of Milton, John Rota and his wife Deborah of Middleboro and Richard Rota of Milton. Brother of Nancy Pena of Braintree, Robert Rota of Milton and the late Alfred Rota. Charles is also survived by 13 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.

Hugh T. Putnam, Jr.

68, of Milton, died on September 30, 2009 after a lengthy illness.

Born in Boston, Hugh graduated from the Groton School in 1959 and from Harvard University in 1963. He then enrolled in the New York State College of Forestry at Syracuse University and he worked for twenty-nine years for the New England Forestry Foundation.

Hugh served as the Executive Director for the New England Forestry Foundation for eight years. He later founded his own business, Putnam Forestry Services of Milton which he operated until his retirement in 2005.

In his spare time, Hugh served as the Recording Secretary for the Milton Hoosic Club, he was the Chairman of the Mass. Tree Farm Association and he sang four days a week with Saint Michael’s Church, Dedham Choral Society, his own Barbershop Quartet and the Canton Bay Statesmen.

His hobbies involved model trains and train photography.

Beloved husband of Heather (McCusker) Putnam. Father of Hugh T. Putnam, III and his wife Virginia, of Milton and Robin A. Putnam of Milton. Grandfather of Caroline and Sophia Putnam. Brother of Anne Putnam Nichols and her husband Louis of Sherborn and Mary Putnam Mitchell and her husband Ned of Groton. Hugh is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Service will be celebrated at Saint Michael Episcopal Church, 112 Randolph Ave. Milton, MA 02186 on Sunday, Oct. 18, 2009 at 2:00PM. Reception to follow at the Straus Library, Milton Academy, Milton.

Lorayne A. (Joyce) Carberry

78, of Milton, passed away after a long illness on Monday, September 14, 2009. beloved wife of Kenneth R. Carberry for 58 years. Devoted mother of Joyce A. Scott and her husband Ronald, Dale Marie Carberry, Kenneth A. Carberry and his wife Mary, Keith R. Carberry and his wife Anne, all of Milton and Kurt R. Carberry and his wife Deborah of Canton. Lorayne is also survived by 14 grandchildren.

Mrs. Carberry had many interests. She was a talented artist, decorator, real estate investor, a prolific political debater and a true lover of life.

Mrs. Carberry was proud of her Irish heritage, her South Boston roots and her Catholic faith. She had a deep devotion to Saint Anthony and to the Blessed Mother.

A philanthropist, Mrs. Carberry gave generously to schools, churches, foundations and individuals for many years. She strongly believed in the blessings of anonymous giving.

Alice N. (Megarry) Lamb

85, of Raynham, formerly of Dorchester and Quincy, died at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston on September 7, 2009.

Born in Belfast, Northern Ireland, Mrs. Lamb worked as a Teacher’s Aide in the Boston Public School System.

She was the beloved wife of the late Edward J. Lamb, BPD. Mother of Edward J. Lamb and his wife Eleanor of VA, Kenneth A. Lamb, BPD, and his wife Veronica of No. Easton, June B. Morrissey and her husband William of Raynham, Brian A. Lamb and his wife Donna of Hanover, Nancy M. O’Brien and her husband Joseph of Braintree and Cindy A. Ahern and her husband Gerry of Rockland. Sister of Molly Rogers and Nan Nichol, both of Northern Ireland, Roy and George Megarry, both of Ontario, Canada and the late Margaret Hughes and Ena Megarry. Alice is survived by 21 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Julie Marie Connelly

50, a Senior Vice President at Citizens Bank, died at her home in Milton on September 3, 2009 after an illness.

Born in Boston, Julie was a lifelong resident of Milton. She was a graduate of Saint Agatha School, Fontbonne Academy (1977) and Boston College (1981). She worked in the finance industry since her graduation from college.

In her capacity as Senior Vice President at Citizens Bank, Julie was in charge of Community Affairs. She loved her banking family and she was also a member of the Board for the Women’s Institute for Housing and Economic Development.

Beloved daughter of Jane E. (Farley) Connelly of Milton and the late Roderick M. Connelly Jr.. Loving sister of Marianne Connelly of Brighton, Roderick M. Connelly III and Jennifer Connelly-Wolff both of Milton. Aunt of Roddy and Danny Connelly and Maggie and Jeffrey Wolff.

Hubert A. "Sonny" Samuels

75, August 24, 2009 passed away after a short illness. Sonny was the owner of Samuels Jaguar Motors in Brighton, MA since 1974. He was a resident of Milton for over 35 years.

Sonny is survived by his wife Rosamond Yolanda (Romney) Samuels. Father of Vance, Michelle, Elston and Chauntelle. Grandfather of Savannah and Sierra. Brother of William, Leroy, Enid, Bernise, Ivy, Gwendolyn and Velora. Nephew of Adlynn Forester. Also survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins.
