Alberta (Duke) Mattox, of Hyde Park, died at Boston Medical Center, Sunday February 12, 2017.

Wife of Lawrence Farrier. Mother of Virgilynn Parham, Bedford A. Parham, Terry Mattox, Rene Mattox, Gary Mattox and the late Victor Parham, Sharon Parham and Lamont Mattox.

Funeral service at Dolan Funeral Home, 1140 Washington Street, DORCHESTER LOWER MILLS, Saturday February 18 at 11:00 AM. Visitation begins at 10:00 AM.

Robert Corniel Peters

Robert C. Peters departed this life at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, February 9, 2017.

Funeral Services will held on Saturday, February 18 at The Episcopal Church of the Holy Spirit, 525 River Street, Mattapan, MA 02126. The family will receive visitors at 9am and the funeral service will begin at 10am. Interment at St. Michael Cemetery, 500 Canterbury Street, Boston, MA 02131.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Dian and Gladys Peters, and his grandson Triumph Emmanuel Bailey.  He leaves to mourn his passing; his wife Marcelline Prince Peters, daughter Sonya Peters Bailey, son-in-law Rev. Dr. Michael Bailey, siblings: Dr. Clayton Shillingford (Delaware), Dr. Donald Peters (Dominica, W.I.), Danny Peters (New York), Randy Peters (Dominica, W.I.), Glen Peters (Dominica, W.I.), Merle Peters (Dominica, W.I.) and Sandra Gregoire (Dominica, W.I.), numerous nieces and nephews and a host of other cherished relatives and friends.

In lieu of flowers, donations are invited in Robert Peters’ memory to: Church of the Holy Spirit; The National Kidney Foundation; Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.

Sammie Louis Alexander

Sammie Louis Alexander went home to be with the Lord on Monday, the 13th of February in the year of 2017. Sammie was born November 23, 1939 in Atoka, Tennessee to the late Henry Alexander and Arlin Alexander.

Sammie came to Boston in 1967 to look for work and a future. Sammie was a Stewart with the Local 223 Construction and General Labor Union for 30 plus years . Sammie befriended Mayor Marty Walsh holding a long standing friendship with The Walsh Family. He held the title of being a Steward in his blood. Giving directions and orders and not settling for less as a leader. That role carried on the job and off the job as well.

Sammie was the evolution and expansion of his family. Taken on the role as a man, at an early age. He was the seed that blossom a tree of family and friends. Sammie, Sam, Sammie Louis Respect from anyone who had the pleasure of being in his presence.

Sammie was the 2nd eldest of his siblings who were preceded in death years prior. Mary Lou, Artis and Emma Jean.

Sammie leaves behind his loving wife of Doris Thomas Alexander for 14 years, and daughters Mary, Renee, son Jermaine, and Step- Children Manuel and Deirdre (Dee Dee) Thomas. Sammie leaves a host of Grandchildren and Great grands along with loving family and friends.

Our Heavenly Father has gathered his wings round his children to join him in his home. Rest in Peace Sam we love you. Visitation will be held on Friday February 17 at the Dolan Funeral Home, 1140 Washington St. LOWER MILLS from 10-11AM. The funeral service will begin at 11AM.

Darby Lyons

Darby Lyons died February 4, 2017, at his residence in New Bedford.

Born in Cambridge,  Darby grew up in Quincy attending St. of the Hills of Grammar School and Quincy High School.

Darby worked in the building trades, first an as apprentice plumber and later as an apprentice electrician. A fall at his residence left him a quadriplegic  some twenty years ago. Darby in his earlier years was ahead of the gym craze, working out with and being the trainer for Mike ” Mighty” Quinn a Mr. America and Mr. Universe body builder competitor.

Darby was a loyal friend and a physically gifted athlete. He never forgot a name of someone he was introduced to.

Darby was the husband of Paula Lyons of Wareham. Father of Kelley Hobert of Quincy, Darby Lyons, Jr. of Centerville, Nicholas Lyons & Jessica Lyons both of Wareham and the late Deana Hobert. Dear friends of Mario Tronca, Eddie Bouzan, Larry Calley and Wayne Larson all of Quincy. He is also survived by 6 grand children and 2 great-grandchildren.

Visiting hours in the Dolan Funeral Home, 460 Granite Avenue, EAST MILTON SQUARE, Friday February 17, from 10 AM  – 1 PM .  Interment Private.

Lillian Sorgi

Sorgi, Lillian for website onlyLillian Sorgi died, Thursday February 9, 2017, in Hingham after a lengthy illness. She was born in Boston to the late Louis F.  and Vita DeLeo in 1924.  Raised in Dorchester, she graduated from Dorchester School for Girls  and Burdette Business School.

Lillian worked for Mass. Envelope in Boston and later for the State of Massachusetts as the assistant to the Director for the Mass. Parole Board.

She married her husband Lou in 1949 and settled in Milton. Lillian in addition to raising her family of five, was President of the Auxiliary Volunteer’s  of Milton Hospital, member of Wollaston Golf Course, Cunningham Bowling League and an avid amateur painter.

During the early 80’s she and Lou relocated to Princeton, NJ  and she subsequently became employed with the Princeton Press. She also was an active volunteer with the Joffrey Ballet Company of New York City.

In 1986 the couple returned to Milton and spent time travelling extensively and  attending numerous Boston College Hall of Fame functions and athletic events.

Lillian was the beloved wife of the late Louis V. Sorgi. Devoted mother of Louis V. Sorgi, Jr. of Hull, Virginia Sorgi of CA, Joan Gendreau of Longmeadow, Paul Sorgi of MI, and John Sorgi of NH. Sister of Jeanne Shanahan of Lexington. She is also survived by 9 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St Agatha Church, Adams Street at Brook Road,  Thursday, February 16 at 10:30 am.  Visiting hours at Dolan Funeral Home, 460 Granite Avenue, EAST MILTON SQUARE, Wednesday, 5-8 pm. Interment Milton Cemetery.

Riley Marguerite M. (Reen) of Milton formerly of West Roxbury died February 9, 2017. Beloved wife of Edwin J. “Ted” Riley III, DMD of Milton. Loving mother of Edwin J.Riley IV and his wife Erika of Milton and Annmarie Chase and her husband John of Millis. Cherished Nana of William, Keara, Shayla, Zachary Riley and Allison and Ashley Chase. Sister of James Reen and his wife Charlene of Norwood, Fr. Jeremiah Reen of Tampa, Florida and the late John Reen and Mary Ann Mulligan and their surviving spouses, Ellen Steele Reen and Thomas Mulligan. Daughter of the late Jeremiah and Ann Reen. Daughter-in-law of Claire F. Riley and the late Edwin Riley Jr.

Marguerite was born in Boston and lived in West Roxbury before settling in Milton.   She worked as a hairdresser for many years. She was a caregiver, always making it a priority to help others and those in need. Marguerite was the center of the Riley, Reen and Mulligan family and she made it a priority to host frequent family gatherings including 29 nieces and nephews, 40 grand nieces and grand nephews and many friends. Family was the cornerstone of her life. Her generous and giving ways will always be remembered. She made a difference in so many lives. She will be missed by all who had the pleasure to have known and loved her.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday at 10:30am in St. Pius X Church 101 Walcott Road, Milton. Relatives and friends respectfully invited to attend. Geraldine (Jerry Runci) MacDonald age 69 of Quincy formerly of Dorchester died February 8, 2017. Jerry was an area resident her entire life. Daughter of the late Anna K. and Charles McCarthy. Beloved wife of the late William (Mickey) MacDonald. Loving mother of  Patricia  Bechtold, Denise and Tim Lyons all of Dorchester, Lisa MacDonald of Quincy and Maureen MacDonald of Brockton. Cherished Nana of Angella, Andrew, Nicole, John, Annamarie, Ian and  five great-grandchildren. Sister of Patricia Larkin, Joanne Burke, Kathleen Stout, Eugene, James, John, William, Richard and Maureen McCarthy and the late Robert, Charles and Thomas McCarthy. Jerry is also lovingly survived by many nieces and nephews.

Jerry was a longtime resident of Dorchester before moving to Quincy 3 years ago. She was an avid Red Sox fan and she loved being a Nana! The most important aspect of her life was her family, She loved her children and grandchildren unconditionally. She will be missed by all who had the pleasure to have known and loved her.

A Mass Christian burial will be celebrated on Monday February 13, 2017 at 10:30AM in Saint Brendan Church, Gallivan Blvd. Dorchester. Collins, Katherine for website onlySr. Katherine Collins mfic, of Newton, a beloved member of the Missionary Franciscan Sisters of the Immaculate Conception for 77 years, died at Saint Patrick’s Manor, Framingham, Saturday February 4, 2017.

She was the beloved daughter of the late Patrick and Helena (Murnane) Collins. Sister was preceded in death by her five siblings, Denis, John, Patrick, Mary and Nell. She is survived by her sister-in-law Bridie Collins and a large extended family of nephews, nieces, grand-nephews and grand-nieces and many cousins, close friends and her Missionary Franciscan Sisters.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in the Chapel at Mount Alvernia Convent, 790 Centre Street, Newton, Thursday February 9 at 10:00 AM. Visiting hours at the Chapel, Wednesday 4-7 PM. Relatives and friends invited. Interment Holy Cross Cemetery, Malden.

Sr. Katherine was a Certified Nursing Assistant at Youville Hospital, Cambridge for 25 years.
