Miller, RuthRuth A. (Arie) Miller of Dorchester, April 3, 2017, beloved wife of the late Francis X. Miller. Loving mother of Sandra Paquale and her late husband Clement of Weymouth, Francis X. Miller Jr. and his wife Pattie of Weymouth and Mary Ellen McHale and her husband Gerard of Dorchester. Ruth is survived by nine grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. Mark L. Hillis, of Quincy, passed away at his residence on March 27, 2017. Mark was a groundskeeper for the Sheraton Tara Hotel in Braintree for many years.

He was the son of the late Henry G. and Jeanne (Mooney) Hillis. Loving brother of Chris Hillis and wife Signa of Oregon, Kevin Hillis of Quincy, Karen DeRosa and husband Joe of Hingham and the late Gary Hillis. Cherished uncle of 9 nieces and nephews and 9 great nieces and nephews. Dear friend of Evelyn Aniolowski of Quincy.

Mary C. (Ridge) Lawlor, of Milton, March 29, 2017. Beloved wife of Crosbie J. Lawlor.

Mary was a longtime CCD teacher at Saint Gregory Church in Dorchester and member of the Milton Senior Citizens Social Club and Castle Island Association. She worked as an usher at The Wang Center for Performing Arts for over 23 years.

It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Mrs. Clémentine Abraham (Lévêque) on Saturday, March 25, 2017 in her home in Mattapan Mass, after a long courageous battle with an illness. Born on February 1, 1929 to the late Mr. Raphael Lévêque, her father, and the late Udile Toussaint, her mother. She was 88 years old.

Clementine Abraham is survived by her husband, Pardonna Abraham,

Clementine L. Abraham was a sweet loving mother/grandmother/sister/aunt, and valued her friends. She was a hardworking woman and allways had others hapiness in mind. She believed in God and devoted her life to Him and to His cause. Clementine will be missed and remembered for her kidness, her charisma, and most of all her compassion for others.

Robert O. Swan

Robert Swan of Dorchester, died Sunday March 26, 2017.

Beloved husband of Clarice (Alford) Swan of Dorchester. Loving father of Latoya Swan, Stacey Alford, Mark “Anthony” Alford, Jacqueline Alford all of Dorchester and the late Duane, Stephan, Wendell and Miriam Swan. Brother of Sue Swan of Roxbury and the late Barbara Swan, Charlotte Swan Wade, Mamie Ross and Delores Cole.   Robert is also the grandfather of 18, great-grandfather of 19 and uncle of a host of nieces and nephews.

Robert was born and raised in Missouri. He was an entrepreneur in his younger years owning a refrigeration business, real estate business and many others. Later he worked as a superintendent at Sophia Snow Place for many years. He was an avid Red Sox and Patriots fan and enjoyed traveling and watching old gangster and Western movies. He is remembered by his family as a simple, kind and humble man who adored his family. He will be missed by all his family, friends and all who had the pleasure to have him in their life.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the viewing on Wednesday April 5, 2017 at 10:00-12 Noon at Dolan Funeral Home, 1140 Washington Street, DORCHESTER LOWER MILLS. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 12 Noon in the funeral home. Interment in Forest Hills Cemetery, Boston.

Muriel Durham

Muriel Durham of Roxbury, died Wednesday March 22, 2017.

Beloved mother of Irma Durham, Adjua, Errol Durham, Anita Durham, Oliver Fairbain, Gloria Printemps, Cyril Durham and Garfield Durham. She is predeceased in death by 4 siblings and 4 grandchildren. Muriel is also lovingly survived by 25 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren and 1 great, great- grandchild. She also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Muriel was born in Kingstown, St. Vincent. After coming to the United States she became a home health aid for many years. Her family remembers her as a woman who always gave to others; she was a true caretaker for everyone. She was also devoted to her church where she spent countless hours volunteering her time. Muriel’s family was her true passion in life; she loved them with all her heart. She will be missed by all who had the pleasure to have been part of her life.

Viewing Friday 10:00-11:00am in the The Waymark Seventh- Day Adventist Church, 1048 Dorchester Avenue, Dorchester. Funeral Service to follow at 11:00AM in the Church. Interment in Saint Michael’s Cemetery, Boston.

Bishop George Johnson

Johnson, George cropBishop George Johnson, died on March 14, 2017. Bishop George was born to the late Pauline and Jim Johnson September 20, 1928 in Scotin, SC.

Bishop George served in the United States Army from September 1952 until Sept 1953. He was honorably  discharged as a PFC. The Veteran of the Korean War often known as the “Forgotten War”  was awarded the Purple Heart for wounds received in Battle, a Combat Infantry Badge as well as an Army Good Conduct  Medal, A Korean Service Medal with 2 Bronze Stars and a  United Nations Service Medal.

George was an outstanding man who loved his friends and family unconditionally.  He took pride in being a hands on and present parent. He enjoyed spending time with his beloved grandchildren and enjoyed teaching them how to “chef” it up in the kitchen. He loved to fish and watch martial arts films and wrestling.  He also preached the Word of God and loved Gospel tunes.

Bishop George was the beloved father of Brenda Johnson of Brockton, George Johnson, Jr. of Boston, Jacqueline Johnson of Brockton and Herbert Allen Johnson of Boston. and the late Solomen Johnson. Brother of Elizabeth Hicks of Boston. He also leaves numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Graveside Service  will be conducted by Apostle Helen Watkins Skeete  at the Mass National VA Cemetery Bourne, Tuesday, March 28 at 11:15 am.

Remilda ” Rae” Caliri

Caliri, Remilda for website onlyRemilda “Rae” M. Caliri (Guarino) of Quincy, MA formerly of Dorchester, MA passed away peacefully on March 24 at the age of 94 with family by her side. Beloved wife of the late Thomas J. Caliri. Loving and devoted Mother of two children, Thomas R. Caliri and his wife Joanne of Marshfield and Richard M. Caliri of Marshfield and his beloved soulmate Christine A. Escott of Weymouth. She is survived by her sister Gloria Guarino and her lifelong companion Van Chumacas of Milton, MA and predeceased by 8 brothers and sisters. Also survived by 2 grandchildren, Mollie A. Caliri of Quincy, MA and Michael C. Caliri of Marshfield, MA and many nieces and nephews. Rae graduated from the Dorchester School for Girls in the early 1940’s. She began a career in the banking and investment industry, working initially as a teller for the First National Bank of Boston. After taking time off from work to raise her family she worked for the investment firm Thompson McKinnon Securities and later worked for many years as a receptionist at Merchants Cooperative Bank in Boston.

Rae greatly enjoyed cooking for her family and relatives and was famously known for her delicious Italian dishes.

She was also active as an entrepreneur in the hotel/restaurant industry and used her cooking skills and knowledge to help run the Village Tavern hotel in Woodstock, VT with her siblings in the 1950’s and 60’s and later as part owner/operator of  Ship’s Haven Restaurant in Quincy, MA. She was also a volunteer at Quincy Hospital where she brought her bright smile and nurturing personality to the patients there.

Rae loved spending time at her “beach house” near Humarock, particularly with her 2 grandchildren whom she especially adored and the family dog, Skip, whose antics always brought a smile to her face. Her final years were spent at the Eventide Home in Quincy which recently moved to Weymouth as the Dwyer Home where she brightened everyone’s day with her charming personality and fun-loving attitude. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Agatha’s Church, 432 Adams St., MILTON, Fri. March 31, at 10:30 am.  Visiting Hours in the Dolan & Chapman Funeral Home, 5 Canton Ave., MILTON VILLAGE, Thursday, March 30th from 4 – 8 pm. Interment Milton Cemetery.
