Remilda ” Rae” Caliri

Caliri, Remilda for website onlyRemilda “Rae” M. Caliri (Guarino) of Quincy, MA formerly of Dorchester, MA passed away peacefully on March 24 at the age of 94 with family by her side. Beloved wife of the late Thomas J. Caliri. Loving and devoted Mother of two children, Thomas R. Caliri and his wife Joanne of Marshfield and Richard M. Caliri of Marshfield and his beloved soulmate Christine A. Escott of Weymouth. She is survived by her sister Gloria Guarino and her lifelong companion Van Chumacas of Milton, MA and predeceased by 8 brothers and sisters. Also survived by 2 grandchildren, Mollie A. Caliri of Quincy, MA and Michael C. Caliri of Marshfield, MA and many nieces and nephews. Rae graduated from the Dorchester School for Girls in the early 1940’s. She began a career in the banking and investment industry, working initially as a teller for the First National Bank of Boston. After taking time off from work to raise her family she worked for the investment firm Thompson McKinnon Securities and later worked for many years as a receptionist at Merchants Cooperative Bank in Boston.

Rae greatly enjoyed cooking for her family and relatives and was famously known for her delicious Italian dishes.

She was also active as an entrepreneur in the hotel/restaurant industry and used her cooking skills and knowledge to help run the Village Tavern hotel in Woodstock, VT with her siblings in the 1950’s and 60’s and later as part owner/operator of  Ship’s Haven Restaurant in Quincy, MA. She was also a volunteer at Quincy Hospital where she brought her bright smile and nurturing personality to the patients there.

Rae loved spending time at her “beach house” near Humarock, particularly with her 2 grandchildren whom she especially adored and the family dog, Skip, whose antics always brought a smile to her face. Her final years were spent at the Eventide Home in Quincy which recently moved to Weymouth as the Dwyer Home where she brightened everyone’s day with her charming personality and fun-loving attitude. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Agatha’s Church, 432 Adams St., MILTON, Fri. March 31, at 10:30 am.  Visiting Hours in the Dolan & Chapman Funeral Home, 5 Canton Ave., MILTON VILLAGE, Thursday, March 30th from 4 – 8 pm. Interment Milton Cemetery.
