Ithai Larsen

Ithai Larsen, 32, of Chelsea, died unexpectedly on August 3, 2017. He was born in Hyannis, Massachusetts and attended primary school in the Nauset Regional School System and Bnei Yehuda, Israel. Mr. Larsen majored in English Communications and minored in Business Administration at the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts in North Adams. He completed his Masters Degree in Organizational Communication at SUNY Albany in 2008. While attending graduate school Mr. Larsen worked as a graduate intern for the Division of Library Development in the Library at the New York State House.

Mr. Larsen was employed by the MBTA for more than 7 years, principally as the Senior Coordinator for the Department of System Wide Accessibility. Mr. Larsen was committed to continuing the mission of the MBTA with a focus on improving accessibility. As part of his daily assignment he worked tirelessly and compassionately to implement the mandated accessibility requirements.

Both in his professional career and in his personal life, Ithai’s calling was to gently serve those in need. He was loved by his family, friends and those whom he helped.

Ithai is survived by his parents Geoffrey and Tineke, his brother Gershon and Natasha, and his brother Yesher and Rebecca. Funeral arrangements are being handled by the Dolan Funeral Home at 460 Granite Avenue in Milton. Calling hours will be Tuesday August 8th from 4 PM to 7 PM. The funeral will be private. Maria “Natalia” Correia

Maria Esperança Correia “Natalia”,  88, passed away on August 4th peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family.  She was born in Fogo, Cabo Verde Islands, daughter of the late Catarina DePina and Diniz Jose Correia. Natalia immigrated to the United States in 1991, resided in Dorchester and worked as seamstress for many years. She will be remembered for the love of her family, friends, dancing, cooking and spending time with her many grandchildren.

Natalia is survived by her two sons; Daniel DePina of Atlanta, Georgia & Joaquin Correia of Dorchester; two daughters; Euprepia Correia & Rosalina Correia of Dorchester; three sisters; Caetana DePina, Maria Gonçalves of Fogo, Cabo Verde Islands &  Perpétua “Naterça” DePina of Portugal as well as many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Visiting hours will be held Friday August 11th from 4 to 8pm. Dolan & Chapman Funeral Home located at 5 Canton Avenue, Milton Village.

Her funeral will be held at Saint Peter Church on Saturday August 12th at 10 A.M. located at 278 Bowdoin Street, Dorchester MA.

Burial will follow in New Calvary Cemetery, Boston.

 

 

Walter Stephen Carr

Walter Stephen Carr, of Milton, unexpectedly, Monday July 31, 2017.

Born in Milton, Walter was a graduate of Xaverian Brothers High School and University of Massachusetts. He worked for many years at the former Frank Wood Convalescent Home in Mattapan and recently retired from the Federal Reserve Bank as a computer operator. He was currently employed part-time at The Home Depot, Quincy Adams store.

Mr. Carr enjoyed the outdoors and was a member of the Trustees of the Reservation and the Quincy YMCA. He was a Eucharistic minister at Saint Agatha Church.

Beloved husband of Maureen M. (Lawlor) Carr. Beloved son of Dorothy L. (Merrigan) Carr of Quincy and the late Charles M. Carr, Sr. Brother of Charles M. Carr Jr. of Las Vegas, NV and Christopher E. Carr and his wife Lisa of Milton. Uncle of Cody and Jared Carr and Julia and Rosemary Brewer, all of Milton. Son-in-law of Crosbie and the late Mary Lawlor of Milton. Brother-in-law of Joseph A. Lawlor and his wife Susan, Anthony F. Lawlor, Eileen M. Lawlor and her husband Paul DeBonis, Jerome C. Lawlor and his wife Jean and Cecelia Lawlor her husband Joe Callahan. Walter is also survived by his nieces and nephews, Mike, Pat, Katie, Sheila, Nora, Aidan and Veronica and his dogs Morgan and Mollie.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Saint Agatha Church, Adams Street at Brook Road, Milton, Tuesday August 8 at 10:30 AM. Relatives and friends invited. Visiting hours at Dolan Funeral Home, 460 Granite Avenue, EAST MILTON SQUARE, Monday 4-8 PM. Interment Milton Cemetery.

Ida Nella (DiVirgilio) Lio

Ida Nella (DiVirgilio) Lio, at her home in Milton, Tuesday August 1, 2017.

Born in Villa Fonsina, Italy, Nella came to the United States at the age of 19. She settled in Dedham and worked as a seamstress in a garment factory. She and her husband Pietro recently retired after many years owning and operating Fashion Quality Cleaners, located on Billings Road, Quincy.

Family was the focus of Nella’s life. She is the beloved wife of Pietro Lio. Loving mother of Anna Marie Kapolis and her husband James of Milton and Anthony Lio and his wife Patricia of Westwood. Cherished grandmother of Michael and Elena Kapolis and Philip and Anthony Lio. Sister of Concetta DiMartino of Foxboro and the late Luigi DiVirgilio.

Betsy Jean Debnam Upchurch

Betsy Jean Debnam Upchurch of Milton, died peacefully at home on  July 28, 2017.  Betsy was born in Raleigh, North Carolina on April 18, 1935 to the late Magnolia Debnam and the late Eugene Joseph Rogers.

At the age of 17 Betsy moved to Boston and soon after married James Allen Upchurch.  She worked as a Home Health Aide for many years until she retired in 2007.

She is survived by 3 sons; Larry Debnam (Tanya), Michael and Anthony Upchurch and a daughter Carolyn Upchurch (Nathaniel Edge), her god daughter Paulette Parham, 17 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, 4 great great grandchildren and a host of family and friends.

Visitation will be held at Dolan Funeral Home, 1140 Washington St., DORCHESTER LOWER MILLS, Friday, August 4th from 10-11 AM, followed by a Funeral Service at 11:00 AM.  Family and friends invited.

Ruth M. Cox

Ruth M. Cox, of Braintree, formerly of Dorchester, July 28, 2017.

Beloved daughter of the late Edward F. Cox and Mable (Dalton) Cox.

Ruth was born and raised in Dorchester.  She was a secretary in the Boston Public Schools for many years before retiring.

Thomas J. Martin

Tom Martin is being remembered as a man of faith and family, a successful entrepreneur, philanthropist, Olympian, mentor, and friend. Known with affection as “Red,” he passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on July 27, 2017 at the age of 79.

A resident of Canton, MA and Jupiter, FL, Mr. Martin is survived by his beloved wife June Martin (Tortorella), his children Thomas Jr. and wife Cathy of Canton, Timothy and wife Julie of Canton, Christopher and wife Sara of Canton, Shawn and wife Susan of Westwood, Gregory and wife Ann-Marie of Canton, Julie and husband Patrick of Westwood, and Patrick and wife Meghan of Needham. He was the son of the late Anne and William Martin, Brother of Ann Marie Larkin (deceased) and husband Michael and brother-in-law of Joseph Tortorella (deceased) and wife Janet, cousin of Jack Norton and wife Sheila and best friend of Jim Logue and wife Carina. He was the very proud “Papa” to 22 grandchildren, Brittany, Brendan, Erin, Allie, Jen, Billy, Kyle, Emma, Jackie, Ryan, Kelly, CJ, Cam, Renee, Trevor, Owen, Meghan, Ella, JP, Dolan, Connor, and Gavin. He will be missed by all, including his faithful dog Lucy.

Tom “Red” Martin received his B.S. from Boston College in 1961. While a student at BC, Tom captained the 1960-61 Hockey team and was twice voted to the college coaches’ All-American team. He was named Beanpot MVP his Senior year after playing a remarkable 58 minutes in the finals against Harvard and scored the winning goal. That same year, he won the Walter Brown Award, which is awarded to the best American born Hockey player in New England. Red was also a member of the NCAA regional 1 Championship Baseball Team. In 1968 Red was inducted into BC’s Hall of Fame and has his retired jersey hanging in the rafters at Kelley Rink. After college, Tom represented the United States as the assistant captain of both the 1962 World Ice Hockey Championship team and then as a member of the 1964 Olympic Team that played in Innsbruck, Austria. In 1982, he founded Cramer Productions and today is a 150-people strong Marketing Communications company that works with a roster of prestigious global brands, and is one of the most well-regarded marketing agencies in the country.
Red was also an avid golfer and has won multiple club championships, the NE Senior Amateur Championship, a State Father-Son Championship, qualified for multiple USGA events and is a member of the Society of Seniors. He was also a proud member of Ponkapoag Golf Club (Former President), Charles River Country Club, TPC Boston, The Milton Hoosic, The Ridge Club, Woodland Golf Club, and Jupiter Hills Club in Jupiter, FL. Red was the ultimate competitor and very much enjoyed his golf with family and good friends.

His humble beginnings inspired a lifetime of involvement with many worthy charities, such as Catholic Charities South, Oblate of the Virgin Mary Seminary Fund, National MS Society, Young and Strong, NE Province of Jesuits, Boston College, Mother Caroline Academy, Mass Hospital School, Dana Farber, Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Ouimet Society, Action for Boston Community Development (ABCD), American Ireland Fund, Juvenile Diabetes Foundation, The Pine Street Inn, Healthcare for the Homeless, Boys & Girls Club, Bridge over Troubled Waters, Hope Rural Schools, House of Possibilities, Ursuline Academy, Xaverian Brother’s High School, St. Sebastian’s School and countless other worthy causes. In 2008, he was awarded the Cardinal Cushing Medal for being a role model who improved the quality of life for so many less fortunate individuals. Tom was also active on many boards throughout his career that included Aubuchon Hardware, Xaverian Brothers High School, Caritas Christi Hospitals, Norwood Hospital, Mass Hospital School, Ouimet Society, Oblates of the Virgin Mary, and ABCD.

His Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30am at Saint Ignatius Church at 28 Commonwealth Avenue, Chestnut Hill, MA Tuesday August 1, 2017. Visitation will be from 3:00-7:00pm at Saint Gerard Majella Church at 1860 Washington Street Canton, MA on Monday July 31, 2017. Interment Milton Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Tom’s name to either Young and Strong Program for Women with Breast Cancer, Oblates of the Virgin Mary in Milton, MA, or the Ouimet Society.

Mary F. Dacey

MARY F. DACEY ( Kelley), age 92. Beloved wife of the late William T. Dacey Sr.; dearest mother of William T. Jr., Maura A. and Sheila M. Dacey; loving grandmother of Kristian Dacey (Lisa) and Sarah Dacey; great-grandmother of Camden and Evan Dacey; dear sister of Sr. Ann Kelley, Sheila Doyle (Gerry) and the late Francis (Elizabeth), Fr. Paul Kelley and Daniel Kelley (Mary Alice); cherished aunt to many nieces and nephews. Mary was raised in Milton, MA and attended Emmanuel College and was a longtime parishioner of Gesu Church in University Hts. Charite Edouard

Charite Edouard, of Dorchester was born on September 17, 1929 in Cape Haitian, Haiti, departed this life on July 9, 2017. Beloved daughter of Jose Edouard and Mariana Cinious. Cherished mother of Jean Renauld St. Aubin, Lunie Edouard, and Aland Franccois. She is also survived by her sister Altagrace Lumarque, nine grandchildren, and two great grandchildren. Visitation will be held at Morning Star Baptist Church, 1257 Blue Hill Ave., Mattapan, Friday July 28th from 10-11AM, followed by a funeral service at 11AM. Relatives and friends invited.

Lottie Rebecca Reddrick

Reddrick, Lottie Rebecca, a long-time resident of the Dorchester area, died Friday the 21st of July at Season Hospice House, Milton, MA

Born on the 25th of July, 1924 in West Point, Virginia, to Edward Farley and Mamie (Jackson) Farley.  Loving wife of Zachariah A. Reddrick married December 24, 1948, who preceded her in death January 1998.

Lottie received a certificate from LaBouré College in the field of Dietary services and was employed at Nelson Manner Nursing Home in Dorchester.

Preceded in death her husband Zachariah A. Reddrick, her brothers Archie and Ananias Farley, sisters Josephine and Victoria Farley.

Lottie is survived by one sister Eudora Farley who resides in Boston, MA, Four children, William L. Reddrick of Dorchester, Allan F. Reddrick and wife Frances J. Reddrick of Mattapan, Vicki E. Braswell of San Jose, California and Denise Reddrick of Mattapan.  She is also survived by six grandchildren and six Great grandchildren.

Lottie had an unconditional ear and a very giving heart, never spoke a harsh word against anyone and was always available to all.  She also enjoyed doing puzzles, crossword games, traveling with her oldest sister and making Sweet potato pies for her family at Thanksgiving.
