Allen, Rita A. (Davis) of Braintree formerly of Milton died on August 13, 2017.  Beloved wife of the late Albert J. Allen.  Loving mother of Joan Allen-Mervine of California, Kathleen M. Holt and her husband Philip of Plymouth, Marie T. Kenyan and her husband Paul of Dover, Janet M. Burns and her husband Robert of Virginia, James J. Allen and his wife Cheryl of Tennessee  and John A. Allen and his wife Susan of Westport.  Sister of the late Edward Davis.   Cherished grandmother of 14 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren and her  late granddaughter Jamie Allen.

Rita was born in Boston.  She put down roots in Milton and this is where she settled and raised her family. Rita dedicated her life to her family who were  the most important part of her life, she enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren whenever she could.  She will be missed by all who had the pleasure to have known her.

Phyllis M. Mulkern

Phyllis M. Mulkern (Connelly) of Milton, died at home surrounded by her family on August 11, 2017 at the age of 93.   Beloved  wife of the late Paul V. Mulkern.  Loving mother of Paul V. Mulkern, Jr. and his wife Diane of Milton, Virginia Mulkern and her husband John Oldham of Old Fort, North Carolina, Elizabeth Coghlan and her husband Robert of Milton, John Mulkern and his husband John Lee of New York City, Anne Mulkern and her partner Michael Emerick of Chapel Hill, North Carolina and Joseph Mulkern and his wife Paula of Marshfield.  Cherished grandmother of Jamie Feather, Michael Oldham, Nicole Mulkern, Lucas Mulkern, Alexandra Mulkern,   Elizabeth Raines,  Sam Raines,  Victoria Mulkern and Brian Coghlan.

Phyllis was born in Boston and grew up in Dorchester and South Boston.  She was a graduate of Girls Latin High School and Emmanuel College in Boston where she majored in math.   Phyllis was a devoted parishioner of Saint Elizabeth Church in Milton.  She enjoyed volunteering her time at the Carney Hospital.  She was a member of the Amateur Women’s Garden Club of Milton and the Saint Agatha Bowling Club.  Phyllis loved to spend time at Castle Island in South Boston, but her greatest   love was for her family who were the cornerstone of her life.  She will be missed by all who had the pleasure to have known and loved her.

Bernadette Richards

Bernadette (Corcoran) Richards of Milton, went home to heaven on Thursday, August 10, surrounded by her loving children. Bernadette was the beloved wife of the late William T. Richards, and the devoted mother of Kim Mahoney and her husband Paul of Milton, Marie Richards of Charlestown, Beth Richards of Milton, Laura Richards and her husband Anthony Sbarra of Milton, Jane Richards of Quincy, William Richards of Boston and Therese Lindenfelzer and her husband Mark of Milton.  Bernadette loved spending time with her 11 grandchildren: Sarah, Christine and Paul Mahoney, Cara, Lauren and Paula Hogan, Daniel, Andrew and Lily Sbarra, Anna and Mark Lindenfelzer all of Milton.  She is survived by her dear sister and brother Frances Richer and Joseph Corcoran, and her sister in law Helen Corcoran, all of Milton.  Sister of the late Mary Corcoran, John Corcoran, Leo Corcoran, Sister Theresa Corcoran, and Claire Carten.  Also survived by many nieces and nephews who added to the pleasure of her life.  Bernadette’s life was guided by her passion for people and her deep love for her family and her many friends.  She will be remembered for her beautiful smile, her warmth and kindness, and her wonderful spirit.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Elizabeth’s Church, MILTON, Wednesday, August 16, at 10 o’clock. Lula Mae Farley

Lula Mae Farley passed away Saturday August 5, 2017 due to illness. Beloved wife of the late Elijah Farley. Loving mother of Vonelle Glover, Merrill Gavin, Michael, Gilbert, Andrew, Daniel, Louise, Matthew, Raymond, Tommy, Annette, Renee, and Devin Farley. She is also survived by her 25 grandchildren who were so dear to her heart. Visitation will be held at the Dolan & Chapman Funeral Home, 5 Canton Ave., MILTON VILLAGE, Friday, August 11 from 10:30-11:30. The funeral service will begin at 11:30. Interment at Mt. Hope Cemetery.

Mary Joyce Hoffmann

Mary Joyce Hoffmann, of Milton, Friday August 4, 2017.

Born in Boston and raised in Milton, M.J. was a graduate of Skidmore College and Suffolk University, having completed her paralegal certification. She had a gift for writing and producing beautiful poems, and she enjoyed painting. She shared her love of music and the beach, and always gave back by volunteering for many organizations. Most notably she taught English as a Second Language and volunteered at the local food pantry.

Loving mother of Olivia Joyce DeMatteo of Milton. Sister of Jane C. Hoffmann of Quincy, Louis P. Hoffmann of Geneva, Switzerland and Audrey L. Schug of Hanover. Daughter of the late Louis P. and Mary Joyce (Murray) Hoffmann.

Jane F. Carroll

Jane Frances Carroll, aged 75, died peacefully in her home in Milton on August 8, 2017.  Jane was born November 21, 1941 and raised in Winchester, the daughter of Joseph J. and Rita C. (Hayes) Moran.

Jane was a long-time resident of North Easton, where she built a happy family life founded upon a nearly 40-year marriage to her late husband, John P. Carroll, who passed on August 8, 2001.  She raised four children, two dogs, several cats and rabbits, and any other animals her children brought home. She was a proud graduate of Stonehill College (1993) and Forsyth School of Dental Hygiene (1961) and worked for many years as a dental hygienist at the VA Medical Center in Brockton until her retirement.

She was an avid swimmer, a self-taught and skilled sailor, an aspiring gardener and golfer, faithful Red Sox and Patriots fan and a voracious reader who appreciated music and all things beautiful.  Her greatest joy, however, was in spending time with family and friends.  Jane always held strong convictions on many subjects, and enjoyed a spirited debate with kind and honest discourse.  At the same time, she placed the value and quality of her relationships above all else.  Those who spent time with her deeply appreciated her ethic, and knew it was special.  Her unique, endearing, inspiring and rare spirit will perhaps provide the greatest comfort to her family and friends as they celebrate her life.  She lived it well, fully and with uncommon passion and grace.

Jane is survived by her beloved children Clare and her husband Jeff Gray of Milton, Kevin and his wife Badeah of Bethesda, MD, Joseph and his wife Cheryl of Colorado Springs, CO and Stephanie and her husband Brannan Davis of Fort Collins, CO; her adored grandchildren Kasey, Emilie, Molly, Sarah, Ryan, Kyle, Benjamin, Daniel, Jane and Conor; and her cherished siblings Jim Moran and wife Nancy of Byfield, John Moran and wife Karen of Maitland, FL, Rob Moran and wife Susan of Winchester, Mary Ann “Maisie” Wall and husband Peter of Harwich and Elizabeth “Betsy” Land and husband Tom of Andover.  Janie is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and other loving relatives and close friends.  In addition to her husband John, she will join her parents, many aunts and uncles and her beloved nephew Matthew Moran in Heaven.

Jane’s family is deeply grateful to the skilled, dedicated and compassionate medical and nursing providers who helped not only to extend her life but also to respect her very strong desire to live only with dignity and purpose.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St Agatha Church, Adams Street at Brook Road, Monday, August 14, at 10:30 AM. Visiting hours at Dolan & Chapman Funeral Home, 5 Canton Avenue, MILTON VILLAGE, Sunday 2-5 PM. Interment Private.

Michael Caleb McHugh

Michael Caleb McHugh, of Milton, an incredible son and loving brother, passed on August 5 as a result of Alveolar Rhabdomyosarcoma.

Michael was diagnosed only 15 months ago yet endured countless battles in an effort to live as much and as full a life as possible. Michael would not want to be remembered for the disease he endured but for more for his humor, his boundless compassion and great love of Boston sports. Michael attended Tucker Elementary School and was a proud High Honors student at Thayer Academy.

Father Michael Sr., originally from Scituate, MA, mother Kari (Bornhorst), originally from Acton, MA, and sister Brooke, welcome his friends and family to visiting hours at Dolan Funeral Home, 460 Granite Avenue, EAST MILTON SQUARE, Friday, August 11 from 4:00 – 8:00 pm. The funeral will be held at St. Mary’s of the Hills Church, 29 Saint Mary’s Road, Milton, Saturday, August 12 at 10:00 am. (Please park in the St. Mary of the Hills School parking lot, 250 Brook Road)

The family is asking that in lieu of flowers, donations go to support a fund Michael developed that will be used to bring joy to the nurses that care for cancer patients at Dana Farber and Children’s Hospital. These nurses found innumerable ways to bring him and his family joy, clarity and love from the day he was diagnosed until the moment he passed. Donations can be made out to Dana Farber-nurses fund and sent to PO BOX 351, Milton, MA 02186 and the family will present them in Michael’s name.

Emily G. (Jewett) Maiden

Emily G. (Jewett) Maiden, of Milton, August 7, 2017.

Beloved wife of the late Allan “Scotty” Maiden. Devoted mother of Allan “Doug” Maiden and his wife Laurie of Weymouth, Jane Bennett and her husband Mark of Milton and Richard J. Maiden and his wife Lisa of Brockton.  Grandmother of Scott, Keeley, Corey and Brianna Maiden, all of Weymouth, Elizabeth and Brendan Bennett, both of Milton, Emily and Victoria Maiden, both of Brockton. Great grandmother of Breyson and Harper Maiden of Weymouth. Sister of the late Marjorie Seery, Katherine Collins, Jean Rousseau, Raymond Jewett and James Jewett.

Justin A. Lloyd

Justin A. Lloyd, of Milton, age 23, passed away peacefully on August 3, 2017 following a long battle with cancer.

Justin was the beloved son of Kenneth and Jeanne Lloyd of Milton. Brother of Jonathan Lloyd of Cambridge and Jared Lloyd of South Boston. His puppy RAI was named after the catchphrase motto that Justin lived each and every day by… RISE ABOVE IT.

Justin was raised and educated in Milton.  He graduated with high honors from Thayer Academy. Justin was an exceptional scholar-athlete who fulfilled his dream of playing college baseball at Union College in NY.  He eventually transferred to Boston College to be closer to home for treatment at MGH.  Even while on chemotherapy, he thrived as an Economics Major at B.C.  During his summers, Justin worked for Fallon Ambulance and John Hancock Financial Group.  Recently, he joined TEAM IMPACT; an organization dedicated to connecting children with life threatening illnesses to collegiate athletic programs around the country. Justin battled cancer with dignity and grace and was always respectful of others.  His infectious spirit touched everyone he met. He will be remembered for his quick whit, athleticism, leadership, competitive spirit, and his love for family and friends. He was an inspiration that taught all of us to appreciate life as it is, and every moment we have.

Family and friends will gather to celebrate Justin’s life on Thursday, August 10, from 4 -8 p.m. in Dolan Funeral Home, 460 Granite Ave, EAST MILTON SQUARE.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, August 11 at 10:30 a.m. in St Agatha Church, Adams Street at Brook Road, Milton.

Danny J. Diggins

Danny J. Diggins, of Quincy, passed away peacefully at his home on August 6, 2017.

Husband of the late Monica M. (Campbell) Diggins.  Loving father of Ann (Diggins) Dunphy and her husband Colm of Milton and Michael Diggins and his wife Helena of W. Quincy.  Grandfather of Daniel and Ashley Diggins and Colm, Michael, Monica, Bernadette and Jack Dunphy.

Danny was born in Kerry County Ireland.  He was a builder for many years with Dunphy Management.  He enjoyed gardening at home and spending time with his grandchildren.
