Norma J. Hargrove, 72, of Roxbury, passed away March 27, 2019.

Born in Eatonton, GA to the late Evelyn Hargrove and Joe Henry Johnson.  Loving mother of Regina Hargrove, Alexa Hargrove, Abrunda Chavis and the late Larry Chavis.  Beloved grandmother of 8 Grandchildren and 5 Great Grandchildren.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Concord Baptist Church, 180 Blue Hill Avenue, Milton, Friday April 5th at 11:00 AM.  Family and friends invited.  Visiting hour at 10:00 AM prior to the service at the church.  Interment Saint Michael Cemetery.

Frank S. Catanzano

Frank S. Catanzano, of Milton, formerly of Somerville, MA passed away on March 30, 2019.

Born on November 18, 1926 to Jennie (Sincerella) and Frank Stephen Catanzano, Sr. of Somerville, MA.  Beloved husband of Louise Smith Catanzano.  Loving brother of deceased Raymond, Cosmo and twin sisters Mary Drago and Elizabeth Andolini.  Father of Steven Shea and his wife Patricia, Barry Shea and his wife Jimma, Gina Leto Catanzano and her husband Joseph, Philip Catanzano, Karylyn Shea Malone and her husband Francis, his sisters-in-law Vita Catanzano and Paula Smith Hamilton and her husband John.

Grandfather to Matthew Shea, and his wife Missy, Michael Shea, Laini Leto Fletcher and her husband David, Alissa Leto Mulkern and her husband Brian, Kristen Shea and her partner Patrick O’Brien, Mark Malone, Kelly Malone, Jartu Shea and Janey David.  Great grandfather to Kenneth Shea, Patrick O’Brien and Andre Sanchez.  Uncle to Frances Drago DiRusso, David Catanzano and his wife Louise, Stephen Catanzano, William Catanzano and special nieces Karen Catanzano Cripps, Allison Webster Stromberg and Pamela Webster Richardson.

Educated at Somerville High School, Class of 1944.  Attended Northeastern University for Mechanical Engineering and Wentworth University for Machine and Tool Design.  Frank was employed by New England Confectionary know as NECCO for twenty five years as a Director of Engineering.  He worked at Schrafft’s Candy Company for thirteen years as a Director of Technology.  After his retirement in 1984, Frank was employed by Lechmere Sales for thirteen years as a Sr. Camera Sales Associate.

Frank was an accomplished Xylophonist.  He used his camera selling experience to become a photographer.  Frank had many interests including bowling and playing poker every Tuesday at the Clubhouse.  He was a long time member of the Cunningham Park Men’s Bowling league which won two league championships.  Frank joined the Boston Chapter of Parents without Partners and served as its Vice President.  He was also the past president of the American Association of Candy Technologists (AACT) Packaging Institute.

Family and friends are invited to visiting hours at Dolan Funeral Home, 460 Granite Ave., EAST MILTON SQUARE, Wednesday April 3 from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm.  Funeral service Saturday, April 6 at St. Michael’s Episcopal Church, 112 Randolph Ave., Milton at 3:00pm.  Interment in St. Michael’s Parish, Garden of Seasons, immediately following the service.

Richard E. Hall

Richard E. Hall, of Milton, suddenly March 28, 2019.

Beloved husband of Kathleen M. (O’Brien) Hall. Loving father of Colleen Hall of Queens, NY and Brian R. Hall and wife Caitlin of Quincy. Brother of Judith DiMatteo of Billerica, Joanne DiMatteo of Dennis, Jacqueline Siekman of Somerville and the late Jane Leonard. Also survived by several nieces, nephews and grand nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Agatha Church, Milton, Tuesday April 2 at 10:30 AM. Visiting hours at Dolan Funeral Home, 460 Granite Ave., EAST MILTON SQUARE, Monday 4 – 8 PM. Relatives and friends invited. Interment private.

Margaret Kelley Ferry

Margaret K. Ferry Obituary (Patriot Ledger, The)

Margaret Kelley Ferry, of Hingham, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 26, 2019 at the age of 95 surrounded by family and loved ones. She was the wife of 48 years of the late John Kelley and the wife of the late Charles Ferry. She is survived by her loving daughters, Eileen Casey and her fiance Michael Cawley of Hingham and Jeanne Gianino and her husband Robert of Peabody, Her beloved grandchildren Ken Casey and his wife Jen, Dani Baldassare and her husband Steve, Rob Gianino and his wife Lori and David Embrey, Her cherished great-grandchildren, Emma, Liam and Colin Casey, Brett, Brady and Michael Baldassare and Brendan Gianino. She leaves her sister Virginia O’Boy and many nieces and nephews. She was the mother of the late Barbara Embrey and Virginia Hightower. She was the sister of the late William, Kenneth, George and Paul Winn, Barbara Winn S.N.D., Ruth Melchin, Lillian Mckenzie, and Alice Jane Coughlin. Margaret “Peg” was the daughter of the late William and Lillian Winn of Dorchester. She married John Kelley in 1945 and they raised their four daughters in Milton before moving to Florida in 1983 She lived in Fort Myers for 29 years where she was very active in her church before moving back to Hingham in 2012. Nothing was more important to her than her family. Margaret was dearly loved by all who had the pleasure of knowing her. Her unfailing smile, positive outlook and genuine interest in everyone she met earned her wonderful friends everywhere she went. A celebration of life will be held on Monday, April 1, at 11 a.m. at Dolan Funeral Home, 1140 Washington St., Dorchester, followed by funeral service at 12 p.m. in the funeral home.

James Atkins

James Atkins was born in Waynesboro, GA. on December 29, 1947 to James Atkins, Sr., and Julia Johnson. James relocated to Boston in the early 60’s. He attended the Timilty Middle School. He was employed at Summerfield Furniture, Warren Street Mobil and later as a food delivery man.

James was a quiet man and during his free time he enjoyed word search puzzles, watching drag racing and wrestling on TV or in person, but his all time favorite hobby was buying scratch tickets. He was a caring, loving individual. James adored all his grandchildren, family and friends. He knew many people, and many people knew him. You were always greeted with a “Good Morning” or “Hi”, in passing. He loved being around people.

James was always available to lend a helping hand. If you needed him he was there. He was a babysitter and a chauffeur to some of his grandchildren. Sometimes you might ask him to do something and he might grumble, but he always came through.

He leaves behind to mourn, his wife Eula. She was devoted to his care until the end.

Children: Staci Atkins Gamble (Ron), Martez Crockton (Elizabeth), Stacey Bond (deceased), Michele Nailah (Sonya), Sean Pelzer (deceased), Tyrell Pelzer. Goddaughter Bianca Jones.

He was a father figure to a host of individuals including,   Sharnda Young, Heidi DePina and Robert Scott. Siblings: Florence (Rudolph) Glover of San Antonio, Texas, Julius Ronald (Vencia) Atkins of Boston, MA., Gwendolyn (Carey deceased), Payne of Atlanta, GA., Dorethea Johnson (deceased), Charles Atkins (deceased) Kay Bennett (deceased) Marlene White of Boston, MA., Pauline White of Boston, MA., Edith (Leonard) Warbington of Austell, GA..

Grandchildren: 26 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.

James leaves a host of nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews, two deceased nephews and one niece preceded him in death. He also leaves behind a host of cousins, friends and extended family.

Visitation will be held at the Twelfth Baptist Church on Saturday, March 30 from 10am-11am. The Funeral Service will begin at 11am. Interment at Fairview Cemetery. Relatives and friends invited.

Lorraine T. Kelly

Lorraine  T. (Stanley) of Milton died on March 27, 2019.

Beloved wife of the late Thomas F. Kelly.  Loving mother of Thomas” T.J.” Kelly of Boston and Kevin Kelly and his wife Sarah of Milton. Cherished Nana of Tillman and Thomas Kelly both of Milton. Sister of the late Joan Flannery.  Lorraine is also survived by nieces, nephews and extended family and close friends.

Lorraine was a graduate of Quincy College, she was among one of the first graduating classes of the Peter Bent Brigham Hospital Nurse Practitioner program.  She had a lengthy nursing career at University of Massachusetts Boston.  She enjoyed cooking, traveling, playing bingo and was a proud member of the Red Hat Society.  She was a United States Air Force Veteran.  Most of all Lorraine loved her family who were the cornerstone of her life.  She will be missed by all who had the pleasure to have known and loved her.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday April 1, 2019 in St. Agatha Church, Adams Street at Brook Road, at 10:30am. Relatives and friends invited.  Visiting hours Sunday March 31 at Dolan Funeral Home, 460 Granite Ave, EAST MILTON SQUARE 2-5PM.  Interment in Milton Cemetery.

Marie Eva Menard

Marie Eva Menard, a long-time resident of Dorchester, died peacefully in her home Friday the 22nd of March, 2019.

Born March 25th, 1937 in Mombin-Crochu, Haiti, to Fortune Audate and Sinorine Pierre, Marie worked as a school teacher there until September of 1975 when she immigrated to the US. Upon moving to Boston, she worked at Hotel Meridien until her retirement on September 11, 2001.

Marie loved to cook for her family and was very active in her Church community. Marie was a devoted Catholic and was selfless in her daily life, giving every moment she had to make sure that everyone she came in contact with was loved and cared for.

She is survived by Gabriel Menard, her husband of 60 years, her 7 children (Carl, Frantz, Jean, Ronald, Ricardo, Handy and Ketlourdes), her 15 grandchildren (Guerline, Philippe, Evans, Derrick, Alyssa, Randall, Bryce, Phylisha, Gregory, Dominique, Antonio, Alexander, Aditi, Ryan, Skylar), one great grandchild (Domari Murray) and her living siblings (Marie Josee Maurasse (nee Audate), Theo Audate, Laure Audate, Nolla Audate, Marie Mercie Audate, Francesca Audate, Luce Audate, Jean Baptiste Audate, Pierre Marie Audate, Keitel Audate).

The visiting hours will take place at Dolan Funeral Home 1140 Washington St, DORCHESTER LOWER MILLS, MA 02124 on Friday April 5th between 6:00 and 8:00PM

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at the St Matthew’s Church, 33 Stanton St, Dorchester, Saturday, April 6, at 9 o’clock. Interment will be at Fairview Cemetery, 45 Fairview Ave, Hyde Park, MA 02136.

 

Basil L. Lewis

Basil Lloyd Lewis, 68, passed away on March 24, 2019 at his home after a brief illness.

He is survived by his spouse Helen Patricia Lewis. Two sons, Basil L Lewis Jr. and Mark Parks.  Three daughters Tanya Lewis, Leisa Lewis and Carlene Damon and his sister Jean Green. He is also survived by his many grandchildren and 3 great-great- grand daughters whom loved him dearly.

He was employed at the Lemuel Shattuck Hospital for 30 years where he worked in the nursing department while worked part time for Crystal Reality as a Real Estate Salesman.

Funeral Service Saturday, April 6 in the Faithful Church of Christ, 235 Woodrow Ave., Dorchester, at 10 o’clock. Visitation at the Church from 9 – 10 am. Interment Forest Hills Cemetery.

Mattie Williams

After fighting a courageous battle, within the twinkling of an eye on March 13th, 2019 God relieved Mattie Williams, loving mother, 66 years of age, of her earthly assignment into the life which is everlasting.

Born on June 26, 1952 in Brooklyn, New York to the late Geneva Pearson and Marvin Pearson

As a young girl Mattie moved from New York to Boston along with her mother and sisters. In Boston she would meet and fall in love with Ray Reddick to which one son would be born. Later in life she would meet and marry Tommy Williams. To this union another son would be born. Her family was her joy. She was a traditional stay at home mom dedicating herself to her children who were the joy of her life. Family was always a priority for her.

She did not finish high school but was determined to provide a better life for her children and went on to obtain her General Equivalency Diploma which was a proud moment for her. After acquiring her diploma she then attended the Hickox School of Information Technology but before she could finish she was struck with an illness which would haunt her for the remainder of her life.

Mattie loved God and would often talk about going back home to be with him again. She was a compassionate, generous, sympathetic and fun loving woman with an infectious laugh who also loved to dance. She definitely was a bright shining light to all that knew her and will be sorely missed by those who loved her.

Left to honor Mattie and remember her love are her two sons Ronnie and Robert; four grandchildren, Robert jr., Rudy, Shakara and DaniLeigh, her sisters Carol and Geraldine, her brother Tommy (Cochise) along with several nephews and a niece.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Walter and sister Peggy.

Mattie’s family would also like to extend their gratitude to all the staff at the Lemuel Shattuck Hospital in Jamaica Plain for their attentiveness and loving care.

A Funeral service will be held on Friday March 29th in the Dolan Funeral Home, 1140 Washington St., Dorchester Lower Mills at 12 PM. A visiting hour will be from 11 – 12. Interment Cedar Grove Cemetery.

Ann M. Durand

Ann M. (Finn) Durand, a longtime resident of Milton passed away on March 23, after a brief period of failing health. She was 91.

Born in 1927, Ann was one of ten children of Michael Patrick Finn and Anna (McLaughlin) Finn of South Boston. She was a graduate of South Boston High School, class of 1945. In 1947 she wed Henry M. Durand, also of South Boston. Henry Durand was a decorated veteran of WW II and Boston Firefighter. They settled in Dorchester. Henry Durand died at age 36 in 1961.  Ann was left with three sons ages: 10; seven; and 16 months. Throughout the 1960s, she worked a variety of part time jobs to support her family. She later obtained full time employment as a clerk/typist with the state of Massachusetts a position from which she retired.

She is survived by sons: Paul and Mary Ann (Stewart), of Tucson; Dennis and Eileen (Hamilton) of Hingham. Granddaughters: Diane Rawlings (Jeffrey) of Eden Prairie, MN; Caitlin of Boston; and Elizabeth of Bel Air, MD. Great grandchildren Aiden, Rose and Pearl Rawlings. She was predeceased by a son: Thomas (Dominic Gallucio), late of Dorchester; and Grandson: Clifton, late of Marshfield. Also survived by a brother, James Finn of Pembroke and sister, Eileen (Edward) Miller of Quincy. She maintained a close relationship with her godchild, Geraldine Flaherty of Brockton. Funeral Services and Interment Private. A memorial service will be held in the summer of 2019.
