Jeffrey R. James

Jeffrey R. James, 48 of Boston, passed away Monday, August 26, 2019 surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Kingston, Jamaica to his beloved parents Jean (Miller) Jones and Allen Constantine Gray. Loving father of Adrine Gray and her husband Jerry, Zalikah Lewis, Leroy Gray and his wife Ricki, Sharifah Lewis, Dominque, Renee, Ziesha, Xavier, Gabriel, Daven, Selena and Olivia Gray, Lilyanna Colon and Kimora Gray. Brother of Milton and Delroy Gray, Sandra Gray Simon, Oniel Bruce and Ebony Jones.

A Funeral Service will be celebrated at Union United Methodist Church, 485 Columbus Avenue, Boston, Wednesday September 4, 2019 at 11:00 AM.  Family and friends invited. Visiting hour 10-11 AM at the Church.

Robert Stephen Ghigli

On Saturday, August 24, 2019, Robert S. Ghigli, loving brother, uncle, and friend passed away at the age of 71 after a life of service to others, caring for critically ill patients as a respiratory therapist.

Born in Quincy, Bob was a graduate of Braintree High School, Class of 1967. He proudly served in the US Navy aboard the USS Ingraham participating in Cold War anti-submarine patrols in the North Atlantic. He began his career as a Respiratory Therapist at Carney Hospital in 1974 and worked at Saint Elizabeth Medical Center, Brighton, retiring from Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital – Milton in 2017. He was also a member of the Italian-American Club in Braintree, Ma.

Bob had a passion for the arts, especially films. He had a refined taste for story, character, and language. His movie recommendations were always spot on. Bob also was a discerning judge of quality, always choosing the best of a particular thing he might need, even though he might wait longer to obtain it instead of settling for something of lesser quality that he could obtain sooner. He had a great sense of humor, was kind and compassionate, and he was a great companion for any journey along the Road of Life.

Bob was preceded in death by his mother, Harriet, and his father Robert S. Ghigli Sr. He is survived by his sister, Penny Ghigli Shore and her husband Joseph, of Safety Harbor, Florida, his niece and goddaughter, Aimee McDermott and her husband Kerry, his great nephews, Aidan and Aaron McDermott and his great niece Kayla McDermott, all of Clearwater, Florida. Bob also leaves close friends Kevin and Susan Lilly of Cotuit, Ma, and Charlie and Brenda Burke of Harwich, Ma.

A celebration of Bob’s life will be held on Friday September 6th, 2019 at the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Connery Avenue, Bourne at 10:15 AM.

In lieu of flowers, it is requested that donations be made to the giver’s favorite charity.

Thomas Guevin

Thomas William Guevin of Dorchester died August 21, 2019, after a brave battle with cancer.

Tom was born in West Springfield, MA. Son of the late Ruth Whitney Guevin Vinette and William John Guevin, Tom lived in Dorchester for the past twenty years, and in South Boston for the previous fourteen.  Tom was an accomplished woodworker and artisan who enjoyed challenging projects and making and restoring beautiful things. He loved his family and friends, his home on Ashmont Hill,  and his cat Smudge. He had friends from many walks of life, and all over the world. Tom celebrated thirty-one years of sobriety in June and was a powerful example to many seeking recovery worldwide. A consummate prankster,  his wild sense of humor was always working to make others laugh and he took pride in his politics of peace, love, and absurdity.

Beloved husband of Christie Guevin of Dorchester, father of sons Eric Thomas Guevin  and Nathaniel Zeh Guevin of Dorchester, and daughters Amanda Lee Guevin of Melbourne, FL, and Mariah Grace Guevin Liatt of Northampton, MA, Tom is survived by his sister Mary Elizabeth Bergeron of Pelham, New Hampshire and his brother John Robert Guevin of Vernon, Connecticut as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life Ceremony will be held Saturday, October 5, 2019,  2:00 PM-4:00PM  in the Dolan Funeral Home, 1140 Washington Street, Dorchester Lower Mills.   All who knew Tom are welcome.  A reception in Tom’s honor will follow at Prime Pizza & Grill, 88 Warf Street, Milton, MA  02186.

Robert Michael McGee

Robert Michael McGee of Hanover, passed peacefully at his home, surrounded by his family, August 24, 2019.

Beloved son of the late Rose and Daniel McGee of Charlestown. Brother of the late Daniel McGee, John McGee and Francis McGee. Beloved husband of Ruth Walsh McGee of Hanover. Devoted father of Michelle McGee of Charlestown, Karen McGee Daoust and her husband John of Hingham, Ruth Anne McGee of Hanover, Mary Beth McGee of Hanover and Robert McGee of Norwell. Best grandfather in the world to Sean McGee, Michael McGee, Jessica Fisher, Joseph Fisher and Grace Daoust.

Founder of McGee Family Dealerships, he had a second family of devoted employees at the dealerships, many who were with him for decades and many of whom thought of him as their second Father. Robert was a family man above all else, but found time to enjoy golfing at Marshfield Country Club, watching the ocean at Biddeford Pool, ME or visiting Naples, FL with family and friends.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Mary of the Sacred Heart Church, 392 Hanover Street (Rt. 139), Hanover, Thursday August 29 at 10:00 am. Relatives and friends invited. Visiting hours at the church Wednesday 4-8 pm. Interment Hanover Center Cemetery.

Rita M. Anderson

Rita “Vicky” M. (Eason) Anderson, 76, a 50 year Quincy resident, who relocated to Chatham in 2013, passed away on August 24, 2019 after a brief illness.

She was predeceased by her husband of 52 years James Anderson. Rita leaves her children Brian Anderson and his wife Nolisha of Whitman, Donny Anderson and his wife Heather McCullogh of Virginia, Karen Colitti and her husband John of Abington and Sue Kennedy and her husband Scott of Quincy. She leaves her brother, Wallace “Joe” Eason and his late wife Diane of Weymouth. Also survived by her brother in law Richard Anderson and his wife Roberta and their son Keith of CA, along with her eight cherished grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Rita was the first woman to run for Mayor in the City of Quincy. She was also an avid Red Sox and Patriots fan.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Saint Mary’s Church, 95 Crescent Street, West Quincy, Friday, August 30th at 10:00 am. Relatives and friends kindly invited. William A. Reilly, Jr.

William A. Reilly Jr. 77, of Milton and South Dennis, died at his home in Milton, Friday, August 23, 2019.

Bill is survived by his beloved former wife and caregiver, Marie (Mascari) Reilly and cherished cousins, Kathi Smith Ritcey, Janice Marchetti, Laurence Smith and Mary Patricia Lema.

Bill was born in Brooklyn, NY on June 24, 1942 to his loving parents William A. and Mary (Whalen) Reilly and later adopted by Alice S. Reilly. He had many accomplishments in his life, graduating from BC High in 1960 and Boston College with the class of 1965. He was a former Selectman in the Town of Milton from 1983-1988. Bill was a 12-year Town Meeting member, past President of the Milton Rotary Club, Fourth Degree member and Past Grand Knight of Milton Council Knights of Columbus.    

During his life, Bill enjoyed golfing, fishing, reading and in later years, cooking and experimenting with new and different recipes, along with enjoying the company of his three Labs, Eagle, Holly and Zoey. He is the former owner of Bjorklund & Reilly Insurance Agency Inc., Milton, which he purchased in 1985.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Saint Agatha Church, 432 Adams Street, Milton, Thursday, August 29 at 10:30 am. Relatives and friends invited. Visiting hours at Dolan Funeral Home, 460 Granite Avenue, EAST MILTON SQUARE, Wednesday 4 – 7 p.m. Interment Mt. Wollaston Cemetery.

Kathleen H. (Donovan) Cole

Kathleen H. (Donovan) Cole, 74, of Hyde Park passed away August 18, 2019, with her loving family by her side.

Beloved wife of Richard Cole. Loving mother of Richard Cole, Jr. and his wife Lisa, John Cole and his wife Vicki, Charles Cole and Denise Giovanni and her husband Matthew. Loving grandmother of 5. Kathleen was predeceased by her daughter Irene Cole and her parents Charles and Pauline (Lees) Donovan.

Barry D. Roy

Barry Dennis Roy, 73, of Chilmark, MA, passed away peacefully on August 9, 2019 at Tufts Medical Center in Boston, MA. Born on September 6, 1945 in Norwich, CT, he was the only child of Emory and Bernice (Baril) Roy, and spent his youth in Taftville, CT.  During these years Barry grew to love the scouting experience, eventually leading him to become an Eagle Scout.

Barry was a graduate of Saint Michael’s College in Colchester, VT (‘67) with his summers spent working on Cape Cod in Falmouth. He treasured the many lifelong friendships that he made during his time at St. Mike’s, his friends becoming his “Band of Brothers” for the next 50 years.

After St. Mike’s, he graduated from Albany Law School in 1971 followed by a Masters in Taxation (LLM) from Boston University School of Law. From 1974 to 1980 Barry worked in the Office of Chief Counsel for the Internal Revenue Service. He joined Deloitte as a tax partner in 1981, serving many multinational clients and was named National Director of Tax Quality Assurance in 1996. He retired in 2009.

Barry was an avid supporter of many charities including The Miami Project to Cure Paralysis, Compassionate Care ALS, and the Aquinnah Lighthouse project of the Wampanoug Nation on Martha’s Vineyard. He was also a Trustee of Saint Michael’s College and chair of the investment committee. Barry loved his alma mater and was a dedicated alumnus through both his philanthropy and volunteer work.

Barry was fondly called “The Bear” by those who knew and loved him. He was larger than life and lived with the biggest of hearts and immense generosity. He filled the room with love and laughter and became a beloved member of many families and more than a dozen godchildren. As an only child, he is survived by numerous cousins, their children, godchildren and dear friends who all became his chosen family.

The sunsets are not quite as vivid and the moon not quite as bright over the Vineyard Sound without him, but lives are fuller for all who knew him. A celebration of life will be held at Saint Michael’s College in Colchester, VT on October 12, 2019 at 11:00AM. Joyce M. King

Joyce M. King, 67, of Braintree passed away on Sunday, August 18, 2019.

Loving companion of 30 years Al Portagallo of Braintree. Predeceased by her loving son Lael King and her parents Walter T. and Dorothy (Doyle) King.

Cherished sister of Carol A. Hannon and her husband Bill of Cohasset, Robert W. King and his wife Heather of Peabody, Walter T. King, Jr. and his wife Jean of Hull, Kenneth F. King and his wife Barbara of Squantum, Genevieve M. King and her husband Louis of Quincy and the late Stephen G. King. Joyce is also survived by many nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Saint Brendan Church, 589 Gallivan Boulevard, Dorchester, Tuesday, August 27th at 11:00 AM. Family and friends invited. Roosevelt Hudson

Roosevelt “Roze” Hudson was born on September 22, 1944 from the union of C. D. Hudson and Equilla (Oats) Hudson in Coy, Alabama. He was the fifth of nine children born of that union.

Roze accepted Christ in his life and was baptized at an early age. He was educated in the Mobile County Public School system, where in May 1963, he graduated from Rosa A. Lott High School in Citronelle, Alabama.

Shortly thereafter, Roze followed in the footsteps of his older brothers by migrating north. First to New York, then settling in Boston, which would become his home for the remainder of his life. It was during those early years in Boston in which he had two children, Renard Mason and Shanna Shaw.

For more than 30 years, Roze worked in auto body repair. In 2000, his dream of owning his own repair shop came true. Many considered Roze a “doctor of cars” fixing even the most difficult of collision jobs, making a car appear as though it was brand new from a show room floor. Cars would remain his passion throughout his life, even up until the very end.

In 1982, Roze met his future wife, Nan Lawson. In 1986, their daughter Nicole Renee Hudson was born. The couple united in their lifelong union of marriage on August 7, 1992.

Roosevelt Hudson departed this life on Saturday, August 17th, 2019. He was preceded in death by his parents, C.D. and Equilla Hudson, sister Earlene Hudson, and brothers Calvin Hudson and Walter Hudson.

Roosevelt leaves to cherish his memory: his beloved wife Nan Lawson of Dorchester, MA; Nicole Hudson of Dorchester, MA (daughter); Shanna Shaw of Hyde Park, MA (daughter); Renard Mason of Roxbury, MA (son). Siblings: Lula Hudson of Atlanta, GA; Cora Ann Walker (Cecil) of Mobile, AL; Linda Hudson of Brockton, MA; Bettye Hudson of Brockton MA; James Hudson (Carolyn) of Satsuma, AL. In-laws: the late Joy Jones and Tellis Lawson, Kay Lawson of Dorchester, MA; Shelle Maniscalco (Vito) of Plymouth, MA; Neil Lawson of Middleboro, MA; Beth Allen (Tony) of Canton, MA; Troy Lawson (Stephanie) of Greensboro, NC; and Gil Lawson of Alliance, OH.

Roosevelt also leaves behind a host of extended family and friends to carry on his memory.
