Rita McKinnon Gillespie

Rita T. (Laffan) McKinnon Gillespie of Dorchester, formerly of South Boston, went home peacefully to God on October 28, at the age of 93.

Rita was a graduate of South Boston High School Class of 1943. Rita worked for 30 years as a secretary in the Boston Public Schools.

Beloved wife to her first love, the late Francis T. McKinnon. Lucky to have found love again with the late James Gillespie.

Devoted mother of Jane Cavaleri of Dorchester, Francis McKinnon and his wife Doris of Weymouth and the late Paul McKinnon, Judith Finn and her husband Paul.   

Adored Nana of Kristen Finn and Jessica McNally and her husband Steve all of Duxbury. Kaitlyn Cavaleri and Lauren Cavaleri both of Dorchester, Paul-Michael McKinnon and Thomas Fenton both of Weymouth. Dear sister of the late Ann McCabe-Scott, Helen Callahan, Daniel Laffan, Mary McIntyre and Geraldine O’Donovan. 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St Ann’s Church, Neponset, Monday, November 4, at 10 o’clock. Visitation 9-10 am at the church. Interment Blue Hill Cemetery, Braintree.

Adeline Paillant

Adeline Paillant died October 21 at her residence in Quincy. She was 78 years old.

Adeline was born in Haiti, May 5, 1941. She lived in Haiti until 1974 when she immigrated to Brooklyn, New York. She worked as a seamstress in Queens, New York until 1999 when she relocated to Boston.

She lived with her sister Paula while working as a health care aide at St. Joseph’s Home, Dorchester. Adeline retired in 2009. Upon retirement Adeline moved to Wollaston Manor in Quincy.

Adeline was the beloved mother of Donald Paillant of CT. Sister of Egerie Altenor of Milton, Paula Paillant-Lamontagne of Mattapan and Carol Paillant of Haiti. Aunt of Greta Cadet, Natasha Altenor, Marc Arthur Lamontagne, Georgina Erase, Handy Paillant, Yves Lamontagne, Carlyle Lamontagne, Joel Flezin, and Joseph A. Paillant

Kevin P. Ryan

Kevin P. Ryan, 63, of Foxboro, OFD, passed away October 27, 2019, with his loving family by his side.

Beloved son of Raymond D. Ryan and the late Patricia Ellen Buchanan.

Loving brother of Maryellyn Brown and her husband Michael of Hyde Park, Florence Peleckas and her husband Ray of Foxboro, Patricia Mourtada of Hyde Park, Gail Bello and her husband Charles of Bellingham, Honora Morris and her husband Brian of Weymouth.

Cherished uncle of Keri and her husband Roland, Shaun, Raymond, Stephen, James, Ashley, Isabelle, Zachary and David.  Great uncle of John Raymond.

Loving companion of Mary Barton.

Kevin also leaves behind an uncle, aunts and many cousins.

Sadie Buonamano

Sadie L. Buonamano, of Lowell, formerly of South Boston, passed away unexpectedly on October 22, 2019.

Daughter to Linda Upton of Lowell, mother to Alicia Buonamano of South Boston, sister to Michael Buonamano of Lawrence. Niece of Beverly Curran and her husband Mark of Nashua, Angela Scannell and her husband Paul of Milton, and Elaine Woodgate and her husband Brad of Duxbury. Loving cousin and loyal friend to many. Predeceased by her father John Buonamano and her grandparents Honora and William Ostiguy. 

Sadie was born and raised in Boston. Following, she spent many years as an innkeeper by the beach in Newport, RI, with her former husband Roland Caron. Most recently, Sadie resided in Lowell. She loved spending quality time with her daughter, Alicia, her nieces and nephews and many pets.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Saint Mary of the Hills Church, St. Mary’s Road, Milton, Wednesday October 30 at 10:00 am. Relatives and friends invited. Interment Milton Cemetery.

Joseph Gregory Hannigan Jr.

Joseph Gregory “Greg” Hannigan, 77, of Las Vegas, NV, died Monday, September 23, 2019 after a lengthy illness. 

He was born in Boston, August 15, 1942, to Joseph and Sylvia (Lappalainen) Hannigan.  He grew-up in Quincy, and lived in Weymouth, Milton, and Belmont. 

From a young age Greg was very involved in the floral industry.  He owned two flower shops in Massachusetts, and before retiring, he worked as the head horticulturist at The Venetian Resort in Las Vegas.

Greg was predeceased by his parents and a son.  He is survived by his wife, Frances (Capozzi) Hannigan of Las Vegas, NV, his daughter Donna and her husband Jean Laferriere of Pembroke, NH, his son Joseph Hannigan III and fiance Trisha Wright of Dorchester, NH, a grandson Patrick Hannigan of Somersworth, NH, and several cousins. 

A gathering in remembrance of Greg’s life will be held on Saturday, November 2 from 2pm-4pm at Dolan Funeral Home, 460 Granite Avenue, EAST MILTON SQUARE, MA 02186.

John J. “Jack” Crahan, Jr.

John J. “Jack Crahan, Jr., of Milton, died on October 24, 2019.

Beloved husband of Mary (Ryan) Crahan of Norwell, formerly of Milton.  Brother of Phillip Crahan of New Hampshire and Robert Crahan of Boston.  John is also survived by extended family and friends.  

John was born in Boston and raised in the Jamaica Plain section of Boston.  He was a property manager for Faxon Commons in Quincy for many years before retiring.  John was devoted to his wife Mary as well as his Catholic faith.  He enjoyed trips to Ireland, photography and his cat Molly.  He will be missed by all who had the pleasure to have known him.

Joan A. Gallery

Joan A. (Fournier) Gallery, 80, passed away, embraced by her loving family on October 22, 2019.

She was the beloved wife of 57 years to Dr. David F. Gallery. A graduate of Catherine Laboure School of Nursing, Class of 1960. She was a nurse for the VA Hospital in Jamaica Plain and later worked alongside her husband at his dental practice. She was devoted to volunteerism, dedicating time to St. Agatha Parish as a religious education teacher, parish nurse, and Eucharistic minister. She served as President of Carney Hospital Ladies of Charity. She was also a long time member of the Milton Amateur Gardner’s Club.

She is survived by her daughter Karen Cleaves and husband Robert of Hanover, son Michael Gallery and fiancé Amy Loder of Dedham, sister Marie McNamara and husband Tom of Siesta Key, Florida. She is also survived by her pride and joy, her three grandchildren Brittany, Alyson, and Robbie Cleaves of Hanover and many loving nieces and nephews.

Iona Gillespie

Iona Gillespie was born in Clarendon, Jamaica on September 25th, 1933 to Merdella Graham and Duncan McNeil. Iona was the eldest of 13 children. Her formal education ended at Good Hope primary school in St. Catherine, where she started the university of life, learning skills that would prove most beneficial in later years.

She married her first love Lebert Gillespie and together, they produced thirteen children: Neville (Patsy), Michael (Elaine), Morris, Simone, Junita (deceased), Beresford (Deanery), Elaine (Delroy), Evor (Camille), Annmarie (Neville), Denise (Crosdale), Devon (Tracey), Bruce  (deceased), Warren (deceased) and Dawn. Their large family also included two stepchildren: Stanley and Beverly Gillespie.

When asked about her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Iona would proudly reply “Like the sands of the sea.” She was in fact the proud grandmother to 32 grandchildren, 9 step grandchildren, 45 great grandchildren and 13 step great grandchildren.

She was a dedicated baptized Christian in the Straight Gate Apostolic Church in Jamaica, where she served faithfully for over 50 years.

In August 1995, Iona and her husband migrated to the USA, where she became apart of an even larger family. She was a member of the Pentecostals of Boston church pastored by Rev. Stephen Mack. Iona was a woman of strong faith and wisdom. She lived an exemplary Christian life; she was kind, loving, joyful, gentle, patient, and peaceful. Affectionately called, “mama” or “sister Iona”, she was truly a mother figure to many including those she welcomed in the family over the years.

Gladys (Krieger) Hampton

Gladys (Krieger) Hampton, age 99, of Milton, passed away peacefully in her home on Monday, October 21, 2019.

Born in Paterson, New Jersey to the late Max and Helen (Singer) Krieger, Gladys grew up in Hackensack, New Jersey .

She attended Hackensack High School and graduated with the class of 1936. Gladys furthered her education at Syracuse University where she obtained a Bachelor’s degree. She then enrolled in Columbia University where she earned her Master’s degree in Child Psychology. Throughout her life she pursued her love of painting and the arts.

At the age of 21 she married Roy Hampton. They celebrated 62 years of marriage before Roy passed in 2003. They thoroughly enjoyed golf and traveling together.

Gladys and Roy raised their three sons in Hackensack and Ramsey, New Jersey.

She will be remembered for her generous heart, her strong passion for life, her joy in making new friends and her great sense of humor.

Beloved wife of the late H. Roy Hampton. Loving mother of Mark and his wife Doris (Jacobsohn) Hampton of Canterbury, NH, Bruce and his wife Susan (Berkowitz) Hampton of Jamaica Plain and the late Eric Hampton. Cherished grandmother of Rebecca, Leah, Myriah and Shannah Hampton.  Great-grandmother of Vivian “Vivi”, Asher and Mia. Sister of the late Murray Krieger and Evan Krieger.

John W. Erickson

John W. Erickson, age 94, of Quincy, passed away peacefully at his home, Friday October 18, 2019, surrounded by his family.

Born in Quincy to the late Esther and Frederick Erickson, John was a lifelong Quincy resident, a graduate of Quincy Public Schools and retired from the City of Quincy Engineering Department.

Family was always at the center of John’s well lived life. He is survived by his beloved wife, Ann (McDonald) Erickson with whom he recently celebrated 64 years of marriage on October 8.  Loving father to Susan Paquette and her husband Jeffrey of Marshfield, John Erickson and his wife Carole of Rockland and Nancy Kobayashi and her husband Wesley of Rancho Santa Margarita, CA.  Treasured Grampie to 8 grandchildren who cherished every moment spent with him, Courtney Bjorlin (Roy) and Jonathan Paquette (Laura) of Norwell, John Erickson (Heather) of Fairfield, CT, Daniel Erickson of Dallas TX, Kaleigh Erickson of Rockland, Ryan Kobayashi (Krista) of Brookline, Katie Kobayashi and James Kobayashi of Rancho Santa Margarita, CA.  Cherished Great Grampie to Luke, Lucy and Joshua Bjorlin, Abigail, Thomas and John Paquette, and Faye and Liliana Erickson.  John is also survived by many close family members, nieces, nephews and friends who loved him dearly. He was predeceased by his sisters Winifred Erickson and Jean Demetropoulis. 

A man of tremendous Faith, John was a longtime member of St. Mary’s Parish, serving as its first Eucharistic Minister and Lector.  Gifted with a beautiful voice, he enjoyed sharing his talent as a member of the choir and as a Cantor. He was also a member of The Holy Name Society, twice receiving its “Man of the Year” award from the Archdiocese of Boston. 

A member of the Cyril P. Morrissette Post, John proudly served his country in the United States Navy during World War II, stationed in the South Pacific.

John’s greatest joy was spending time with his family and friends. His life was a testament to his unwavering kind, caring nature and he will be dearly missed by all who were privileged to know him.  An avid gardener, he took great pride in maintaining his beautifully kept yard.

His family would like to acknowledge and thank the extraordinary staff from Old Colony Hospice for their dedicated caregiving.
