Stephen Thomas Connolly

It is with great sadness that the family of Stephen announces his passing after a brief illness, on Saturday, February 1, 2020 at the age of 66.

Beloved son Phyllis C. (Belton) Connolly and the late Francis J. Connolly, (BPD). His brothers Kevin of Coconut Creek, Florida, Jack and his wife Mary of Milton, Paul and his wife Stacey of Weymouth and sister Joan Dolan and her husband Bill of Holden and the late Robert F. Connolly. Stephen is also lovingly survived by many nieces, nephews, extended family and dear friends.

A graduate of Milton High School (’70), Coyne Electrical School and Northeastern University (Magna Cum Laude) Steve had the ability to build or fix almost anything and was happiest restoring classic cars. Stephen also enjoyed spending his spare time maintaining his landscaping and gardens. He worked for Harwich and Arenda Auto Body companies and finished his career working at J. Connolly Company, building and remodeling homes. Steve’s sister Joan was his caregiver and support in his last months and his family thanks the staff of Seasons Hospice for providing compassionate home care during his final days.

Expressions of sympathy in Steve’s memory may be made to a charity of one’s choice. Visiting hours and burial are private per Steve’s wishes.

Carol J. Power

Carol J. Power, 87, longtime resident of Milton, died January 31 at Cornerstone of Canton, after a period of failing health.

Born in Boston, she was the beloved daughter of Francis and Ethel (Sweeney) Murdoch. She was the loving wife of the late Charles Power, and predeceased by her siblings William (Murdoch) and Lois (Wallace). Also, predeceased by her dear friend John Lowe. She is survived by several loving nieces and nephews.

A graduate of Regis College, she served many years as the Nutritionist for the Daly City (CA) school system and had previously served in a similar capacity for the Archdiocese of Boston schools. She was a longtime Eucharistic Minister at St. Elizabeth Church in Milton.

Per Carol wishes, there are no visiting hours. Family and friends are invited to a Memorial Mass at Saint Elizabeth Church, 350 Reedsdale Rd., Milton, on Friday, February 7 at 10:00 a.m.

Burial will be at a later date in San Francisco.

Linda M. (Quigley) Panek

Linda M. (Quigley) Panek of Norton, formerly of Milton and Dorchester, passed away peacefully with family and friends by her side, February 2, 2020, age 65.

Loving wife of Thomas Panek of Norton; Loving daughter of the late Eleanor Delaney and William Quigley; Stepdaughter of the late Walter Delaney; Beloved mother of Jennifer Ward and husband David, Jolene Garceau and husband Justin Scaglione, and Brian Garceau. Loving sister of Nancy Cadigan and husband Steven, Christine Barbieri and husband Stephen, Paul Quigley, and the late William Quigley Jr. She is also, survived by 6 grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Linda retired after 25-years at the MBTA. Linda was a loyal member of Local 589 and Local 600.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Saint Agatha Church, Adams Street at Brook Road, Milton, Wednesday February 5 at 10:30 AM.  Family and friends invited.  Visiting hours at Dolan Funeral Home,460 Granite Avenue, EAST MILTON SQUARE, Tuesday 4-8 PM.  Interment Saint Joseph Cemetery.

Marqus Allien

Marqus Allien passed on Wednesday, January 22, 2020.

Beloved son of Quanda Broadwater and Pierre Joseph Allien. Loving brother of Sascha Allien.

Visitation will be held at Greater Love Tabernacle Church, 101 Nightingale St., Dorchester on Saturday, February 1, from 9-10am. The Funeral Service will begin at 11am at the church. Interment at Forest Hills Cemetery. Relatives and friends invited.

Eleanor M. Commane

Eleanor M. (Greene) Commane, of Milton and South Dennis, January 28, 2020.

Beloved wife of the late Joseph F. Commane. Mother of Eileen Commane of Norwell, Maureen Commane and her husband Robert Lynch of Needham, Patricia Commane and her husband Thomas Fedak of Andover and Nancy Zachariades and her husband Savvas of Chatham, NJ. Grandmother of Carolyn Buckley and her husband Kyle LoConte, Elizabeth Buckley, Charles Zachariades and Eleni Zachariades. Eleanor is also survived by several nieces and nephews in Ireland.

She graduated from St. Thomas Aquinas High School in Jamaica Plain and the Chandler School in Boston. She worked for over 40 years as a legal secretary at several prominent Boston law firms. She was an active member of The Belleek Society and a volunteer at Our Lady of the Cape Thrift Shop as well as The Shattuck Shelter in Jamaica Plain.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Saint Mary of the Hills Church, St. Mary’s Road, Milton, Monday February 3 at 10:00 AM. Relatives and friends invited. Visiting hours at Dolan Funeral Home, 460 Granite Avenue, EAST MILTON SQUARE, Sunday 2-5 PM. Interment Milton Cemetery.

Teresa M. Carroll

Teresa M. (FitzGerald) Carroll, of Braintree, died Tuesday January 28, 2020, 70 days after her beloved husband Charles. They were married 62 years.

Loving mother of James J. Carroll of Boston, Judith Carroll of Arlington, Charles E. Carroll, Jr. of Fitzwilliam, NH, Teresa M. Walsh and her husband James of Braintree, William S. Carroll and his wife Sarah of Dedham and Ann Louise Mercer and her husband Daniel of Dedham. Cherished grandmother of Jake Haveles, Paula Carroll, Christopher, Stephen, Chloe and Clint Walsh, Elizabeth and Nicholas Carroll, Jillian, Julia and Colleen Mercer. Great-grandmother of Cara and Francesca Walsh. Daughter of the late William and Teresa A. (O’Reilly) and Frances Fitzgerald. Sister of Linda McCabe of Florida, Faythe Hughes of Lowell and the late Kevin Fitzgerald.

Born in Boston, Teresa was raised in Mattapan and graduated from Cathedral High School. She quietly took pride in the scholarship for Cathedral students pursuing a nursing degree, that she founded 20 years ago in her brother’s name. She was a longtime secretary at Carney Hospital in Dorchester. Terry was happiest when she was with her beloved Charlie, with whom she traveled extensively. She loved being a Mom and Grandmother but nothing could top the joy of being a Great-Grandmother.

Sabino Coleta

Sabino Alves Coleta of Fogo, Cabo Verde and Boston, MA, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 26, 2020, surrounded by family in Boston. 

Beloved husband of Maria Coleta. He leaves to mourn his passing his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and a sister, Maria Andrade, known lovingly as Tia Mimi, who will miss him dearly. 

He was born in the Fonte Aleixo region of the municipality of Santa Catarina, Fogo, Cabo Verde to Manuel and Ana Alves.  A leader on his home island, he started a family and progressed through his life as a farmer on his family land.  He immigrated to the United States in 1964, married his current wife, and expanded his family, and life, in his new home of Boston.  He had an unwavering love and commitment to his adopted country, always praising the bountiful opportunities available to him, and his fellow Cape Verdeans, to improve their and their families’ lives.  A respected elder of both the community of Fogo and the Cape Verdean community of Boston and Brockton, Nho Nelinho has left an indelible mark on his family and wider community.

Sr. Mary Lucille O’Connor MFIC

Sr. Mary Lucille O’Connor, MFIC, of Newton, a beloved member of the Missionary Franciscan Sisters for almost 80 years, died Saturday January 25, 2020.

She was the loving daughter of the late John and Bridget (Walsh) O’Connor. Sister of the late Kathleen, David, Redmond, Breda, Sheila and Bernard. Sr. Lucille is survived by many nieces and nephews, extended family members and her Missionary Franciscan Sisters.

Sr. Lucille received her Master of Science in Mathematics from UMass Boston and was a teacher at St. Clare High School, Roslindale, General Treasurer for the Community in Italy and Finance Officer for the Community in Newton for 27 years before retiring in 2013.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in the Chapel at Mount Alvernia Convent, 790 Centre Street, Newton, MA 02458 Friday January 31 at 11:00 am. Visitation in the Chapel Friday 10:00 – 11:00 am. Relatives and friends invited. Interment Holy Cross Cemetery, Malden.

Susan L. Monack

Susan Wells Lawrence Monack, of Mashpee and formerly of Milton, died on January 25th from Alzheimer’s disease.

Susan was the beloved wife of Donald R. Monack, and the devoted mother of Julia W. McLetchie and her husband Chip of Winchester, and the late Gregory B. Monack. She was the loving Grandmother of Cecelia (Cece), Charles (Charlie) and Gracie, all of Winchester. Sister of Jeffrey Lawrence and his wife Cindy of Bethel, CT.  Daughter-in law of Donald A. Monack and sister-in-law to Jeffrey and Susan Monack, all of Branford, CT, and sister-in-law to Robert and Angelina Monack of East Haven, CT. Susan is also survived by cousins, nieces, nephews, and many friends.

Susan was born on June 20, 1950 in Stamford, CT, to the late Donald and Anne (Carpenter) Lawrence. She was raised in Stratford, CT and graduated from the Northfield School for Girls (now Northfield Mount Herman) in 1968. She obtained a bachelor’s degree in Sociology from Connecticut College in 1972, and later earned a Masters in Social Work from the University of Connecticut as well as a Masters Degree in Management of Human Services from Brandeis University. Susan cared deeply for others. During her career she held many roles in the human services and social work fields, including at the Visiting Nurses Association and the Department of Elder Affairs. Susan loved music and had a beautiful voice, which she put to good use performing as a longtime member of the Dedham Choral Society. Susan was active in the Milton community and in the First Parish Unitarian Church, of which she was a longtime member.

Susan and Donald were married in 1973, and traveled through all of the ups and downs of life together for the next 46 years, including raising two children together and supporting each other through the loss of their beloved son in 2003. In recent years, Susan’s favorite way to spend her time was in the company of her grandchildren, who brought her great joy. Susan was a loving, generous friend and she opened her home and her heart to others freely. She will be greatly missed.

Funeral Service at First Parish of Milton (Unitarian), 535 Canton Ave., Milton on Thursday, January 30, at 11 o’clock. Interment at Milton Cemetery and reception to follow.

Gene H. Brown

Gene H. Brown 77, of Milton, Massachusetts passed away on Wednesday, January 22, 2020 at The Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts. He is survived by his daughter Gena and was preceded by his wife Marie Brown; and his parents Malchester Sr. and Alice Mae Brown. He was also preceded in death by his brother Carl and sisters’ Joyce and Clementon. Gene was born in Boca Raton, Florida on July 26, 1942. He was the second oldest child of six siblings.

Gene leaves to mourn his passing, his older brother Malchester Jr. of California, his youngest sister Grace of Florida. Gene is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, dear friends and business associates who were part of his inner circle.

After graduating from Carver High School in Delray Beach, Florida; Gene attended Florida A&M University to receive a B.S. in Education. He continued his education at Boston College, where he received a Masters’ in Education. Early on in his career, Gene accepted a position with the Peace Corp in Washington. Gene’s resume later entailed a lengthy career of 45 years with the US Federal Government working for the US Administration for Community Living, Administration on Aging, as an Aging Program Specialist.

Gene will be remembered as a bright, shining light in the various communities he has served. Funeral services will be held on January 29, 2020 at The Concord Baptist Church in Milton at 12PM.
