Gerard T. O'Rourke Sr.

a retired Boston Police Deputy Superintendent and Marine Corps veteran, died Tuesday May 26.

Beloved husband of Judith (Green) O’Rourke. Loving father of Gerard T. O’Rourke Jr. and his wife Mary Ann of Braintree, Lauren Reynolds and her husband Sander of Wayland and Leanne Carlson and her husband Russ of Hingham. He is also survived by seven grandchildren. Brother of the late William “Tex” O’Rourke, Donald O’Rourke and Brian O’Rourke. He is also survived by his step-son Seth Uhlin and many nieces and nephews.

Constance Louisa Tree

of Boston, May 20, 2009, just days before her 85th birthday.

Beloved daughter of the late Mary Agatha (Heaney) and Frederic J. Tree of Milton. Adored sister of Elizabeth Anne Tanner of Needham, Eleanor O’Callaghan of Boston and the late Mary Isabel MacDonald (Marion) of Milton. Cherished aunt of Frederic T. Tanner of Los Angeles, Mary-Laura Greely of Wellesley Hills, Carol Marshall of Hingham, Dr. Tobey MacDonald of Washington, D.C. and the late Paula Anne Soyster and Mary Beth Yasi.

She graduated from Simmons College (’45) where she was Class President and attended The Boston Museum School of Art. She served in the W.A.V.E.S. United States Naval Reserves from 1944-1946 with two of her sisters. Connie was widely recognized for her extraordinary career in graphic arts, culminating with her appointment as the first woman Vice President of Xerox Corporation (formerly Ginn & Co).

In 1975 she received the Simmons College Honors Convocation Citation and in 1987, The Bookbuilders of Boston, W.A. Dwiggins Award. She served as a Trustee of Regis College in Weston for twelve years and was a lecturer at Boston College on graphic arts and publishing. A gifted watercolor painter and gardener, she was a member of The Museum of Fine Arts, The Boston Athenaeum, The Society of Printers, Boston and The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York.

Profiled in Simmons College Alumnae Magazine, she was described as a “charming blonde artist-turned businesswoman who seems to have an inherent knack for getting in on the ground floor of everything new”. Simmons went on to conclude “Seventy-five years after John Simmons verbalized his ideas for women, Ms. Tree, has, in many ways, epitomized his dream”.

Peter R. Traficante Jr.

died at his home in Abington, Thursday May 14 at age 54. He is with the Lord after a serious battle with cancer.

Born in Boston, he was raised in Quincy and recently moved to Abington. A loving husband, son, grandfather, brother and friend, he enjoyed life being near and in the water. A graduate of Quincy High School, Class of 1972, he was a bus mechanic, retiring from the MBTA in 2007 after 27 years of employment. Mr. Traficante was Financial Secretary for IAM Local 264 Machinists Union.

Husband of Susan E. (Dixon) Traficante. Beloved son of Carol (Blihar) and the late Peter R. Traficante Sr. Peter is survived by his sons Scott Erlandson of Holbrook, Robert Powers of Rockland, his sister Georgia Traficante of North Adams, brother Mario Traficante of Quincy, grandchildren Alex, Kaitlynd, Tyler, Austin, Cheyenne and Shelby and many loving aunts, uncles cousins and friends. He will be greatly missed by all.

Francis Michael Norton

66, of Dorchester died suddenly Tuesday, May 12, 2009.

Born in Boston, on February 18, 1943, he was the son of Harriett R. (Maxwell) Norton and the late Frank Michael Norton. Mr. Norton graduated from Roxbury Memorial High School, Class of 1961. He was a member of the United States Army National Guard from 1961-1964. Mr. Norton was Assistant Clerk Magistrate, Suffolk County Superior Court for forty years, retiring in 2007.

A lifelong resident of Dorchester, Mr. Norton enjoyed his neighborhood and his Irish heritage. He was a history buff and had a very dry sense of humor.

Besides his mother he is survived by a sister, Joan E. Mullally and her husband Anthony of South Weymouth, a brother Robert J. Norton of Bellingham, WA and also survived by several nieces, nephews and his longtime companion Roseleen Weir and her family.

Helen M. (Marsh) McGrath

91, of Fairborn, Ohio, formerly of Milton, died on May 8, 2009.

Born in Lynn, MA, Helen worked as a secretary at Jones, Gardner and Beal, a cotton brokerage firm and at Harvard School of Public Health.

Wife of the late John R. McGrath. Mother of Robert L. McGrath of Ohio and John G. McGrath of Weymouth. Mother in law of Patty McGrath of Ohio. Grandmother of Maura and Jack McGrath of Ohio. Sister of the late Ruth Ryder and Laurence Marsh. Also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Michele (Sweeney) Saulnier

a longtime employee at Stop and Shop on Newport Avenue in Quincy, died after a short illness on Monday, May 11 at her home in Quincy. She was 54 years old.

Born in Boston, she was raised in Milton and graduated from Saint Agatha School, Fontbonne Academy and Fannie Farmer School of Cooking. She enjoyed culinary arts and was dedicated to caring for her children and her parents.

James M. Walsh

a retired stockbroker, died suddenly Saturday May 9 at Westerly Hospital, Westerly, RI. He was 72 years old.

Mr. Walsh was a member of Weekapaug Golf Club, Westerly, RI and an active participant in the Rhode Island Senior Games. A resident of Narragansett, RI, he was a longtime resident of Milton, MA.

Walter J. Phinney

of Milton, died Tuesday March 31 at his home after a lengthy illness. He was 70 years old.

Born in Boston, he was a graduate of Dorchester High School, Northeastern University with an Engineering Degree and Suffolk University with an MBA. Mr. Phinney was employed at Raytheon Data Systems and Missile Systems. For several years, Walter taught Engineering Graphics at Northeastern University.

A resident of Milton for over 37 years and a summer resident of Harwich, he was a member of the Raytheon Golf League and was an active member of the Saint Ann’s Band of Neponset in Dorchester.

Beloved husband and best friend for 49 years of Arlene C. (Needham) Phinney. Devoted father of Julie Marotta and her husband Robert of Milton, and Walter J.T. Phinney of Milton. Loving grandfather of Matthew, Timothy and Christopher Marotta, all of Milton. Walter is also survived by many relatives and friends.

Fr. Callistus M. Bamberg OFM

a retired member of the Order of Friars Minor, died Thursday, March 12, 2009, at Tufts Medical Center. He was 74 years old.

Born in Arlington to the late Frederick S. and Mary E. (McIntyre) Bamberg, he graduated from St. Joseph’s Seraphic Seminary in Callicoon, NY and St. Francis College, Rye Beach, NH in 1957.

Fr. Callistus taught at Bishop Stang High School, New Bedford from 1969 to 1981. He was involved in Franciscan Pilgrimages at St. Francis Chapel, NYC for thirteen years and later Siena College, Albany, NY from 1995-2002. He retired to St. Anthony Residence, Boston in 2004.

Brother of the late Fred Bamberg. Brother-in-law of Kathleen Bamberg. Fr. Callistus is also survived by three nephews, cousins, friends and his brothers in the Order of Friars Minor.
