Dorothy C. (Sivertson) Larson

Dorothy C. (Sivertsen) Larson, of North Quincy, formerly of Dorchester, died on April 21, 2010, beloved wife of the late Carl A. Larson, Sr. Loving mother of Carl A. Larson, Jr. of North Quincy and Stephen R. Larson of Dover, NH.  Dorothy is also survived by one granddaughter, five grandsons and two great-grandchildren.

Dorothy graduated from Dorchester High School for Girls in 1939. She retired from The Old North Church, Boston after 27 years as Secretary/Administrative Assistant where during the Bicentennial, she met Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip, President Gerald Ford and many other dignitaries who came to the church.

Dorothy was a Past President of the Ladies Group of the South Shore Viking Association and a member of the Stenkil Lodge #92 and the Vasa Order of America. She greeted King Carl Gustav of Sweden upon his visit to Boston.  Dorothy also traveled to Scandinavia twice.

A Funeral Service will be held in Christ Church Episcopal, 12 Quincy Ave., Quincy, MA 02169 on Saturday, April 24 at 11:00AM. Relatives and friends invited. Visiting hours omitted. Interment private.

John P. “Johnny” Morrissey

John P. “Johnny” Morrissey, 73, of Milton, died at Brigham and Women’s Hospital on April 20, 2010.

Born in Charlestown, Johnny graduated from Charlestown High School in 1956. He entered the US Army and worked with the Corps of Engineers building bridges in Germany. Upon his return from Germany, he worked at Schrafts in Charlestown. He then transferred to the Brockway-Smith Company in Andover where he worked for over 30 years until his retirement.

Johnny resided in Milton for over 31 years. He was an avid skier and member of the Makasue Ski Club in North Conway, NH. He was a late member of the Knights of Columbus Council #62 in Charlestown.

Beloved husband of  Judy P. (Sherwin) Morrissey. Loving father of Jennifer E. and her husband Sean Hayes of Arlington and Jonathan P. Morrissey and his dear friend Karoline Grogan of Quincy. Loving grandfather of Caden P. Hayes of Arlington. Beloved brother of Rita Healey and Ruthann Humphrey both of Charlestown, and the late Doris Nigro, Joan and Thomas Morrissey, Joseph, John, James, Francis, Thomas, and Paul O’Neil, and Mary Dobie. Loving uncle to many nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Saint Agatha’s Church MILTON on Saturday, April 24, at 10:30AM. Relatives and friends invited. Visiting hours at the Dolan Funeral Home 460 Granite Ave MILTON on Friday 4-8PM. Interment Milton Cemetery.

Walter Thomas McGovern

92, of Wareham, formerly of Milton, a retired advertising director at the Boston Herald, died at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, Sunday April 11, 2010. Born in Wellesley, MA, Walter graduated from Wellesley High School and attended Northeastern University. He served in the U.S. Navy (Lt. JG) during World War II. Walter worked at the Boston Herald for over thirty years until his retirement in 1983. He was a resident of Milton from 1954-1983, where he was a late member of St. Elizabeth Church’s Holy Name Society. In 1983, Walter relocated to Hamilton Beach in Wareham, where he had summered for many years. Walter also was a late member of The Newspaper Guild. Beloved husband of the late Catherine (Donovan) McGovern. Father of Walter T. McGovern, Jr. and Mark M. McGovern, both of Wareham. Beloved grandfather of Elizabeth R. McGovern of NYC and Margaret D. Traidman of Chicago. Father-in-law of Suzanne T. McGovern of Darien, CT. Brother of the late Arthur McGovern. Also survived by one niece and one nephew. William J. Kelleher

in Dorchester, formerly of Clondrohid, Macroom, County Cork, Ireland, April 10, 2010. Beloved husband of Ellen M. (Donovan) Kelleher. Loving father of Dennis and his wife Patricia of New Hampshire, Maurice and his wife Mary Louise of Maine, William and his wife Olga of Florida, Jeremiah of Florida, Kevin of New Jersey, John and his wife Janet of Ohio and Patrick and his wife Barbara of Hanover. Geraldine A. “Gerry” (Cochran) Maher

of Quincy, formerly of Milton and Dorchester, a homemaker, died at Milton Hospital, April 7, 2010.

Born in Boston, Gerry was raised in Dorchester. She graduated from Saint Gregory High School, Emmanuel College and the Pierce Secretarial School of Boston. She was a voracious reader, enjoyed golf and was a sports enthusiast. Gerry and her husband lived in Quincy from 1948-1959, then moved to Milton in 1959 and remained there for 37 years. They returned to Quincy in 1996.

She was the first Registrar for the former Newton College of the Sacred Heart, a Social Worker for the City of Quincy for many years and was affiliated with CVS Pharmacy at the Milton Marketplace as a Sales Associate for twelve years, retiring in 2002.

Wife of Francis “Frank” Maher for 59 years, she is survived by two sons, Garrett and his wife Patricia of Weymouth, Keith and his wife Lydia of Quincy and a daughter Annemarie Schmidt and her husband Ian of Holliston. She is also survived by seven grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

The Honorable Kathleen Ryan Dacey

a retired federal judge, died at Holy Cross Hospital, Fort Lauderdale, FL, Monday April 5, 2010. She was 89 years old. Born in Boston, she was a graduate of Mission High School (1937), Emmanuel College (1941), Simmons School of Library Science (1942), Northeastern University Law School (1935) and Boston University Masters in Law (1947). She was the first woman law clerk for the Justices of the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court. Elected in 1949 to the Boston School Committee, she became the first woman chairman in 1950. Mrs. Ryan Dacey was an Assistant District Attorney for Suffolk County before entering private practice for 25 years. In 1975 she was appointed Chief of the Civil Bureau for the Office of the Attorney General. United States President James Carter appointed her as an Administrative Law Judge for the Social Security Administration in 1977. Judge Ryan Dacey sat in both Michigan and Massachusetts until her retirement in 1998. She was member of the Mass. Bar Assn., Boston Bar Assn., American Trial Lawyers Assn., National Assn. of Women Judges, National Assn. of Women Lawyers, Mass. Assn. of Women Lawyers and Mass. Academy of Trial Attorneys. Judge Ryan Dacey had honorary degrees from Suffolk University and Emmanuel College. She was a resident of Milton for 46 years, summered in Harwich and wintered in Pompano Beach, FL. Beloved wife of the late William A. Dacey. Loving mother of Hon. Mary Dacey White and her husband John C. of Milton. Grandmother of Meaghan D. White, Kathryn C. White and Patrick W. C. White, all of Milton. Sister of the late John F. Ryan, Rita M. Cushing and Paul J. Ryan. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Catherine T. (Sheehan) Hayer

of Milton, died at Bethany Healthcare Center in Framingham, Wednesday April 7, 2010. Born in Boston, Catherine was the First President of St. Mary of the Hills Church Guild where she also was a Eucharistic Minister. She was a member of the Catholic Women’s Club, an Officer and Director of Pine Tree Brook Homes and a retired employee of the Milton School Department. Beloved wife of the late William F. Hayer. Sister of Sr. Margaret Sheehan, CSJ of Fontbonne Convent, Milton and the late Msgr. John Sheehan and Edward Sheehan. Aunt of Patricia Bakaur of Mashpee, Maureen Arnold of CO, John Sheehan and his wife Joan of Marshfield, Ted Sheehan of CO, Mark Sheehan and his wife Jennifer of Sandwich and their three sons.
