Maxine Lorraine (Council) Williams, a retired preschool owner, died at Epoch of Chestnut Hill after a period of failing health, Wednesday February 16, 2011. She was 88 years old. Born in Boley, Oklahoma she lived in Kansas City Kansas from 1946 – 2002. Mrs. Williams was the owner and founder of Kiddie Kollege Preschool. Wife of the late Crawford Williams. Loving mother of Brenda J. Mercomes of Dorchester. Grandmother of Staci Williams Seeley of Manhattan, NY. Great-grandmother of Camille Seeley and Crawford Seeley. Sister of Alva Williams of Kansas City and the late Augusta Nash and James Russel Council. Funeral service at Charles Street AME Church, 551 Warren Street, Dorchester Tuesday February 22 at 10:00 AM. Barbara L. (White) McHugh

Barbara L. (White) Mc Hugh, a sales representative for over 20 years at Lord and Taylor in Braintree, died at home in Marshfield surrounded by her family, Friday February 18, 2011. Born in Boston, she was a graduate of Hyde Park High School. Barbara is survived by her devoted husband of 59 years  James J. McHugh, DMD. Loving mother of Virginia McHugh of Carver, John “Jack” McHugh of Quincy, Linda Hyde and her husband Joseph of North Easton, and Robert McHugh and his wife Lynn Marie of Billerica. Devoted grandmother of  Kelsey Hyde, Cory Hyde, Nicole McHugh and Kathleen McHugh and sister of John White of Westwood and James White of Newburyport. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Saint Agatha Church, Adams Street, MILTON, Tuesday  February 22 at 10:30AM. Relatives and friends invited. Robert William Cronin, of Dorchester, February 8, 2011. Beloved brother of Mary E. Cronin and Ann T. Bennett, both of Dorchester, David J. Cronin of Tewksbury, Joseph F. Cronin of West Roxbury, John M. Cronin of Brockton, Thomas F. Cronin of Middleboro, and the late Alice L. Cronin, Michael P. Cronin and James A. Cronin, Jr. Robert is survived by many nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grandnephews. Eileen M. (Griffin) Leary

Eileen M. “Sue” (Griffin) Leary, 88, of Milton, died after a brief illness Tuesday February 15, 2011.  Beloved wife of John J. Leary, Jr. for 56 years.  Devoted mother of Mary E. Hadley of Marion and her husband Mark, John J. Leary III of Mystic, CT and his wife Joanne Lukaszewicz and the late Anne M. Leary.  Devoted grandmother of Andres J. Hadley of Marion. Born in Worcester, of the late Frank and Anna (Fullen) Griffin.  Sister of the late John Griffin of Natick and Frank Griffin, Robert Griffin and Anne Griffin of Worcester. Eileen lived in Milton since 1957 and was a communicant of St. Agatha Church where she participated in many volunteer activities.  From 1974-1985, she worked in the Lockbox section of the Bank of Boston. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Saint Agatha Church, Milton Saturday, February 19 at 10:30 AM. John W. Wallace

John W. Wallace, 83, of Milton, Falmouth Heights and Highland Beach, Florida, died peacefully surrounded by his family on February 16, 2011. He was the husband of the late Ellen (O’Leary) Wallace. Born and raised in Dorchester, Massachusetts, he graduated from Thayer Academy and the University of Miami.

A self-made businessman, Mr. Wallace owned the Dairy Freeze in Quincy, three Lums Restaurant franchises and later established the family favorite, Barber’s Crossing Restaurants in Worcester and Sterling, MA.

John was a resident of Milton and Falmouth Heights for over 50 years. He liked golf, but more important were the friendships he made as a lifetime member of Wollaston Golf Club in Milton. He will be missed by all who had the pleasure to know him.

He was the loving father of John Wallace and his wife Tricia of Paxton, MA, Mark F. Wallace of Del Ray Beach, Florida, Ellen Nylen and Paul of Milton, Denise Petitti and Kevin of Canton and Deidre Karle and John of Milton. Devoted brother of Frances Ducey of Hingham, Louise Morrissey of Needham, Robert Wallace of Canton, the late Jayne Doulos and the late William Wallace. Proud grandfather of Shaun, Matthew, Alli, Lisa, Krista, John, Nicole, Kristina, Jack and his beloved dog Wally.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, Feb. 19 at 9:00AM at Saint Agatha Church, Milton. Marie Denise Pierre-Louis, a resident of Mattapan, died suddenly at Carney Hospital, Dorchester, Thursday February 3, 2011. She was 81 years old. Born in Arcahaie, Haiti she was a resident of Boston for many years. Beloved mother of Ronald Lahens and Marise Simon. Ambrosio Cardoso, a resident of Dorchester, died at Boston Medical Center Tuesday February 15, 2011. He was 92 years old. Born in Cape Verde, he was a longtime Boston resident. Beloved husband of Albertina (Baptista) Cardoso. Father of Sabrina Goncalves, Manuel Cardoso, Jimmy Cardoso, Maria Alina Rosa, Maria Nova Batista, Maria Marcelina Rosa and Joao Cardoso. Helen B. (Burke) Quirk

Helen B. (Burke) Quirk, of Quincy, formerly of Milton, died at South Shore Hospital in Weymouth on February 12, 2011. Mrs. Quirk worked for many years as a Librarian at the Milton Public Library. She was the beloved wife of the late Vincent P. Quirk. Loving mother of Thomas V. Quirk and his wife Donna of Boston, Robert P. Quirk and his wife Denise of Hanover and Deborah L. Piccinin and her husband Robert of Norwell. Also survived by 6 grandchildren: Robert, Carolyn, Jennifer, Kathryn, Colin and Kristina Quirk. Phillippe Etienne

Phillippe Etienne, of Dorchester, died at Lemuel Shattuck Hospital,  Monday February 7, 2011. Retired sexton of Saint Matthew’s Church. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Saint Matthew’s Church, 39 Stanton Street, Dorchester, Saturday February 12 at 1:00 PM. Visitation will begin at 11:30 AM at the church. Interment will take place in Haiti.

Joan Marie Healy

Joan Marie Healy, known fondly as “Joanie”, passed away February 5th at Boston’s Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital after suffering a stroke on January 30th, her 70th birthday.  At her side were her son Michael Healy and his wife Poppy.  Joan was born in Malden and graduated from Malden Girls Catholic High School.  She went on to live in Dorchester and South Boston before spending twenty-six years as a resident of Brockton.  Most recently, she enjoyed living in the quiet beauty of Pepperell in an apartment overlooking the Nashua River.  From 1984 until 2006, she worked in the classified advertising department of The Enterprise.  Following her retirement, she volunteered with hospice patients in the Brockton area.  In addition to her son and daughter-in-law, Joan leaves behind a wide circle of friends both on the South Shore and in the Nashoba Valley, as well as her beloved “grand-dog” Ladybug.  Contributions may be made in her memory to the Joan Healy Memorial Fund through the Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.   Visiting hours will be 4-6:30pm on Saturday, February 12 at Dolan Funeral Home, 1140 Washington Street in Dorchester Lower Mills.  A celebration and remembrance of her life will take place at 6:30pm at the same location.
