Henry DiRico

Henry DiRico of Milton died at home peacefully Friday, April 22, 2011 surrounded by his loving family. He was 83 years old.

Henry was born in Quincy, MA and attended B.C. High and Babson College where he got a BS in Economics and Finance. He served in the United States Army in the Korean War. Upon his return, he went to work at Hub Folding Box Company, his family business, where he worked for 66 plus years.

Francesco DiRico, his father, emigrated from Italy to New Haven, Connecticut at age 14. In 1918, he founded Hub Folding Box Company, Inc. in Boston, the “Hub” of New England.

Henry and his brothers continued their father’s philosophy of innovation, creativity and reinvesting money back into the business. In 1964, they purchased their first multi-color letter press. Then in 1968, they purchased their first sheet fed offset press, a 3-color Harris. Then a few years later they added a 5-color Harris offset press which enabled them to start looking at new business they could not run before.  In 1981, they had the foresight to build a new state-of-the-Art facility which transformed Hub’s operation from three six story buildings to one floor. He built strategic relationships with our customers many of whom we still do business with today. Henry, a driven entrepreneur, was always looking for new and innovative ideas to help Hub’s customers. Even up until he passed, he and his brother Alfred continued to reinvest in the latest innovative technology available today!

The DiRico family continues to operate the business today. Five members of the third generation are employed in various management, sales, engineering and manufacturing positions. Hub operates from a family owned 300,000 square foot state-of-the-art facility located in Mansfield, Massachusetts, 25 miles southwest of Hub’s original Boston location.

Henry loved golf, and was a member of the Wollaston Golf Club in Milton, Salem Country Club in Danvers, The Mid Ocean Club Bermuda and Hobe Sound in Jupiter, FL.

His other passion was skiing at Mt. Cranmore in North Conway, NH. He enjoyed going every weekend with his family and friends until he was 80 years old.

He was an avid horseman and owned thoroughbred race horses. He enjoyed watching them run and spending time in Saratoga in the summers.

He had a tremendous balance in his life, he loved to work hard but also enjoyed being with his family and friends.
