Joseph G. “Joe” Lannan

Joseph G. “Joe” Lannan, of Milton, died on May 6, 2011 at his home after an illness. A graduate of Milton High School and Massachusetts Maritime Academy, Joe was the former Founder and Owner of South Shore Wholesale Tire Co. and Lannan Nautiques. Joe also worked in the Public Relations Department for Boston Edison where he broke the all time Speaker’s Bureau record for 86 speeches in one year. He was a late member of Ancient and Honorable Artillery Company and the Greater Boston Chamber of Commerce, where he broke all eight fund raising records as Loaned Executive.

He was the loving father of Joseph M. and his wife Beverly of Windham, NH and  Larry Lannan of Milton. Brother of the late Ronald Lannan. Grandfather of Holly, Lauri, Nicole, Alissa and Lauren Lannan. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Saint Mary of the Hills Church, Milton on Saturday, May 14 at 11:00AM. Relatives and friends invited. A Visiting hour will be held on Saturday, 9:30-10:30AM at the Dolan Funeral Home 460 Granite Ave. MILTON. Interment Milton Cemetery. Mamie Elizabeth (Edwards) Farrow

Mamie Elizabeth (Edwards) Farrow, of Roxbury, died on May 2, 2011 at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston. Born in New Bern, North Carolina, Mamie moved to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania where she worked as a welder. She moved to Boston in 1960 and raised her family while working at Gillette Razor Co. Mamie loved to crochet and was active in her community, where she served as President of the Columbia Point Task Force.

Loving mother of Christine Edwards of Brooklyn, NY, Paul F. Edwards of Knightdale, NC, Joseph Farrow of Cary, NC, Stephen D. Farrow of Fall River, David Farrow of Roxbury, Michael Farrow of Fitchburg, MA, and the late Gail and Anthony Farrow. Mamie is survived by 14 grandchildren.

Viewing will be held from 10:00-11:00AM on Monday, May 9 at Saint Mark Congregational Church, UCC, 200 Townsend St. (Humboldt Ave.) Dorchester with a Funeral Service to follow from 11:00AM-12:00PM. Interment Mount Hope Cemetery. A Reception will be held at the church at the conclusion of the services. The family respectfully requests that all refreshment and flowers go directly to the church.

Janice C. (Nagle) Dinger

Janice C. (Nagle) Dinger of Milton died Thursday, May 5 in Beth Israel Hospital, after a brief illness.  She was the wife of Paul C. Girouard and the late David E. Dinger.

Born in Boston the daughter of the late Francis and Anna (Burke) Nagle.  A resident of Milton for many years.  She attend  St. Gregory schools  was a volunteer at St. Margaret’s Hospital , past president of Catholic Women’s Club of Canton and a member Wollaston Golf Club and Hatherly Country Club.

Loving mother of  Stephen P. of Scituate, Robert M. of Quincy, Joseph D. of Hingham, Mary Ann Digan of Scituate, Barbara J. Powers of Duxbury, David F. of Norwell and the late Michael Dinger .  Sister of Marie A. Brennen of Milton and the late Francis Nagle.  Also survived by 12 grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Saint Elizabeth Church, Milton on Tuesday, May 10, 2011 at 11:00 AM.  Relatives and friends invited.  Visiting hours at the Dolan Funeral Home, 460 Granite Ave. MILTON on Monday, 4-8 PM.  Interment St. Joseph Cemetery, West Roxbury.

John F. Murphy

John F. Murphy of Milton, died  after a short illness on May 4, 2011 at Milton Hospital. Beloved husband of 42 years of Janet (Meehan) Murphy. He was the  brother of Richard G. Murphy of Marshfield and the late Edmund J. “Ned” Murphy. John is survived by several nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews.

Born in Boston, John was a graduate of Boston College High School, Class of 1955. He attended the Society of Jesus Seminary for twelve years and taught at Xavier High School in Concord

John joined  IBM as a member of the sales department in 1967 and retired after several years with the company.

An avid golfer, he was a member of  Wollaston Golf Club in Milton, and enjoyed gardening at his home in Milton and spending time with his nephews and nieces.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Saint Elizabeth Church , Milton on Wednesday,  May 11, 2011 at 10AM. Relatives and friends invited.

John Edward Van Tassel

John Edward Van Tassel, 85, of Natick, died on May 8, 2011 after a long illness. A US Army Veteran, Mr. Van Tassel was a Professor of Management at Boston College for 48 years.

A Triple Eagle, Mr. Van Tassel was a graduate of B.C. High School and Boston College and he received graduate degrees from Boston College, A.M., 1953, and Harvard, Ph.D., 1957. As computers evolved, he was instrumental in the installation of them at a number of educational institutions (including B.C.). In the 1960’s, he also developed a Management Decision Making Exercise simulation for management training, which is still in use today.

Mr. Van Tassel’s interests included model railroading, railroad history, music, computers and electronics, demographics and maps, and playing Cribbage and Bridge. He was a Life Member of the National Model Railroad Society.

Beloved husband of Joan M. (Barrett) Van Tassel. Son of the late John E. and Elisabeth (Lusteck) Van Tassel. Brother of Barbara Enagonio of Maryland and the late Elisabeth Van Tassel. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Saint Elizabeth Church, Milton on Friday, May 13 at 11:00AM. Jean-Claude Mathurin

Jean-Claude Mathurin, 54, of Boston, died on April 28, 2011. Mr. Mathurin was born in Haiti and worked at West Lynn Dairy in Lynn, MA. He is survived by his wife, Victoire and their family. Thyra “Toya” P. (Paul) Lamour, of Mattapan, April 28, 2011. Beloved wife of Emmanuel “Manny” Lamour. Loving daughter of Ewan Paul and Winsome (Green) Paul. Edward F. Morgan, III

 

Edward F. Morgan III was born in Pittsfield, MA in 1920 to the late Winifred A. and Edward F. Morgan Jr. He grew up in Hudson, MA with his two brothers, William and Robert. He attended Hudson High School where he played baseball, football and hockey.

Ed graduated from Holy Cross College in 1942 with a B.S. in Economics and Business Administration. He was captain of the baseball team and held the batting title his senior year. He had many happy memories at Holy Cross but none was more special to him than the pre-season baseball games played against the Boston Red Sox.

Ed served in World War II as Communications Officer for the Amphibious Training Base, Solomons, Maryland. He went on to become president of Conley Supply Co., Inc. and later served as Northeast Regional Manager for Jenkins Bros. Valves.

Ed was a member of Wollaston Golf Club for more than 50 years where he served on numerous committees. He was an avid golfer and proud four-time winner of the prestigious Fallon Cup. Ed had many wonderful golf stories; one of his favorites was the day he played golf with the great Ted Williams. Ed was also a member of the Atlantis Golf Club in Florida where he resided in the winter.

Ed loved all Boston sports. He was particularly passionate about the Boston Red Sox and the New England Patriots and was a long-time season ticket holder.

Ed married Virginia Hoy Morgan in 1945 and had 5 children. They divided their time between Milton and Hull and later Florida and Hull. He married Abigail Burns Morgan in 2004 and they divided their time between Florida and Hull. There were many, many special moments shared with Virginia and his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and later with Abigail and her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren overlooking the waters of Hull Bay.

Harilaos T. Sakellarides M.D., PHD, FAAOS, FACS, FRCS

Aug 13,1922 – April 27, 2011 .The worlds of orthopedics and hand surgery have lost one of its giants this past Wednesday with the passing of Dr Harilaos Sakellarides after a brief hospitalization. Dr. Sakellarides, author of numerous articles concerning techniques of musculoskeletal and hand surgery, and contributor to several of the world’s most commonly used orthopedic texts, has been known and renowned among his orthopedics colleagues for more than a half-century. Dr. Sakellarides was born in Greece where he attended medical school, graduating in 1950. He trained as a resident surgeon throughout the decade of the 1950’s in Europe’s most acclaimed orthopedic programs in both Paris and London, before completing fellowship training at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York. In 1958, he joined several other Greek and Greek-American surgeons as a founder of the Hellenic Hippocratic Orthopedic Society – where he would later serve as President. He was soon invited to the Mass General Hospital, where he was one of the founders of the Department of Hand Surgery, and participated as an attending surgeon from 1959 thru 1964. In 1963, he was recognized by both colleagues and journalists for his new and innovative techniques, and was featured in a 2-page article in TIME magazine as one of America’s future prominent surgeons. He did not disappoint and of his many designations Fellow American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, Fellow Royal College of Surgeons and Hall of Fame, Fellow American College of Surgeons, Pioneer of Hand Surgery –International College of Surgeons, Francais, Academie de Surgerie to name a few.

In 1965, he joined the staff at Boston University Medical Center. Assistant Clinical Professor of both Hand and Orthopedic Surgery for the next 3 decades. During this time, he also served as Chief of Hand Surgery at Franciscan Children’s Hospital, past President and presently Vice Chairman of the American Academy of Neurologic and Orthopedic Surgeons, and Visiting Professor of Hand/Orthopedic at teaching hospitals in Greece, among them Ioannina Medical School and University of Larissa, and in India, Roumania It has been estimated that he performed more than 20,000 orthopedic and hand surgeries during his career, which spanned more than 6 decades. He was a member of numerous prestigious medical societies, and his resume lists his participation in 39 international and national organizations and societies. He traveled tirelessly to medical conferences around the world. He was dedicated to the welfare and recovery of his patients, welcoming friends and old patients into his office until just days before his passing. His motto was to do no harm. He leaves behind his wife Loukia and daughter Joanne , son Theodore H .of Chestnut Hill, daughter Maria and her husband Dr Yianni Vlachiotis of Ekali Greece. Dorcilia M. Pierre

Dorcilia M. Pierre, a retired cook, died at Milton Health Care Center, Monday April 25, 2011. She was 71 years old.

Born in Haiti, she is the daughter of the late Joseph V. Pierre and Lorette Noza. Loving mother of Mackson Pierre, Nelio Pierre, Jamba Surprice and Victor Pierre.
