Esther (Wignall) Sheldon

Esther (Wignall) Sheldon, of Boston, formerly of Hyannis, died peacefully at the Sherrill House, September 2, 2011 at the age of 96. Wife of the late James R. Sheldon. She leaves two daughters, Nancy Donovan of Milton and Jeanne Couillard and her husband James of Hobe Sound, FL. She also leaves four grandchildren, Dr. Melissa Donovan of Wilmington, DE, Amy Doyle of Dedham, MA, Christine Hanlon of Williamsburg, VA and James Couillard of Ocala, FL. She was known as G G to her seven great-grandchildren. Born and raised in Grafton, Mrs. Sheldon was a graduate of Becker Business School and worked at the Blackstone Valley National Bank for many years. Upon retirement, she moved to Hyannis where she was active at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church in Barnstable. A family memorial service was held at St. Michael’s Episcopal Church of Milton, Saturday September 10, 2011, followed by interment at Fairview Cemetery, Grafton. Eleanor B. (Sullivan) Collins

Eleanor B. (Sullivan) Collins, died at William B. Rice Eventide Home, Quincy, Monday, September 5, 2011. She was 91 years old. Born in Boston, she was a graduate of St. Peter’s Grammar School in Dorchester and Jeremiah Burke High School, Class of 1938. Mrs. Collins was a longtime employee of GTE. She resided in Milton for over 50 years and was a member of the Saint Agatha Church Couples Club. Beloved wife of the late Edward P. Collins, Sr. and the late John F. Barrett. Mother of  Mary C. Lowney and her husband Richard of Weymouth, Theresa A. Collins and her husband Christopher Coughlan of Sausilito, CA, Francis X. Collins and his wife Mary Jane of Milton, Edward P. Collins Jr. and his wife Allyson Powell of Dighton, MA,  Daniel J. Barrett and his wife Maureen Mullaney of Ashfield, MA, Louise C. Collins and Sean Connolly of Attleboro and the late Anne Barrett Rhodenbaugh. Grandmother of Justine M. Smith and her husband Jeff of Sunderland, MA. Also survived by several other grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Sister of Joseph G. Sullivan, Sr. of Milton and the late Mary L. Gannon. Sister Madonna Sweeney, mfic

Sister Mary Madonna Sweeney, a member of the Missionary Franciscan Sisters of the Immaculate Conception for 52 years, died at Marian Manor Nursing Home in South Boston, Thursday September 1, 2011.  Born in Ballyglass, Swinford, Ireland, she was the daughter of the late John and Sabina (Conway) Sweeney.  She is survived by her sister, Sabina O’Donohue of Chicago, many nieces, nephews, extended family, Missionary Franciscan Sisters and friends.  A wake will be held in Mount Alvernia Convent Chapel, 790 Centre St., Newton, MA 02458 on Monday September 5 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM with Wake Service at 6:30 PM.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in the Chapel Tuesday, September 6, at 10:00 AM, followed by burial at Holy Cross Cemetery, Malden.  In lieu of flowers, donations in Sr. Madonna’s memory may be made to the Missionary Franciscan Sisters’ Development Office, 790 Centre St., Newton, MA 02458.

Imelda C. (Clarkson) Driscoll

Imelda C. (Clarkson) Driscoll, of Braintree, formerly of Milton, died at Radius Specialty Hospital, Quincy, after a short illness, Thursday September 1, 2011. Born in Boston, she was a graduate of St Gregory High School and Boston Clerical School. Mrs. Driscoll was employed at Monsanto Chemical Co, Empire Mutual of Quincy, Jobs for Massachusetts and finally as an administrative assistant at Mass. High Technology. She was appointed to the Governor’s Commission for Status for Women under Governor King. A resident of Milton for over 35 years, she moved to Braintree in 2000. Mrs. Driscoll and her late husband James G. Driscoll were longtime members of the Neighborhood Club of Quincy. Loving mother of Elisabeth Tuite and her husband Andrew of Hingham, Susan McGinnis of Quincy, James G. Driscoll and his wife Wendy of Salisbury, Steven Driscoll and his wife Janet of Quincy and Catharine Oeser and her husband Russell of Brookfield, CT. Grandmother of Sarah, Ellen, Nora,  Jane, Jimmy,  Brendan, Courtney, Sean, Evan, Fallon, Seamus, Anna and Maximilian, and great-grandmother to Violet and Sophie. Sister of Dorothy C. “Sister” Teehan of Braintree and the late Mary E. “Betty” Sullivan, Ellen C. Mackey and Susan C. Walker. Dorothy M. (Murphy) McHugh

Dorothy M. (Murphy) McHugh, died Wednesday, August 31, 2011. She was 86 years old. Born and raised in Boston, Mrs. McHugh was a longtime secretary for the Milton Public Schools. She moved to Milton in 1965. Beloved wife of the late Thomas P. McHugh. Devoted mother of Thomas P. McHugh and his wife Nancy of Hollis, NH and Patricia Hanks and her husband Jay of Hull. Daughter of the late William H. and Agnes (Neilson) Murphy. Sister of the late William H. Murphy Jr. Dorothy is survived by her loving grandchildren, Lauren Hetu and her husband Ian, Shannon McHugh, Christopher Hanks and the late Maura Beth McHugh. Dorothy M. (Stanley) Leahy

Dorothy M. (Stanley) Leahy, died suddenly at Milton Hospital, Sunday August 28, 2011. She was 89 years old.

Born and raised in Milton, she was a graduate of Milton High School and Fischer College. After her children reached school age, she was a volunteer at Milton Hospital for many years. Mrs. Leahy worked for the National Security Agency and the Defense Contract Administration Services before retiring in the early 1980’s.

Mrs. Leahy was a lifelong resident of Milton and a winter resident of Florida since retirement. She loved to knit and read.

Beloved wife of the late Joseph W. Leahy. Beloved mother of Joseph W. Leahy Jr., of Nashville, TN, James E. Leahy of Fredericksburg, VA and Christopher Leahy of Milton. Sister of Russell Stanley of FL, Donald Stanley of SC, Richard Stanley of MN and the late William C. Stanley and Claire Carney.  Grandmother of four and great-grandmother of five. She did so much for so many.

Robert Vincent Dandrow Jr. M.D.

Robert Vincent Dandrow, Jr., M.D. peacefully passed away on August 26, 2011 at the age of 87.  He was the beloved husband of Mary (Appleton) his wife of 59 years.  Devoted father of Robert V. Dandrow, III and his wife Cathy of Marshfield, Patricia Dandrow-Seksay and her husband Edward of Cohasset, Alan Dandrow and his wife Joyce of Pembroke, Philip Dandrow and his wife Patricia of Cohasset, and Elizabeth Dodge and her husband Stephen of Pembroke.  He was the cherished grandfather of twelve,  dedicated son of the late R. Vincent Dandrow and Ruth (Kelley) and loving brother of Ruth Lovejoy of Florida, Joan Hottleman of North Falmouth, and the late Gloria MacIsaac of Roslindale.  He had many nieces and nephews.

Dr. Dandrow was born in Boston, attended local schools and was president of the class of 1942 at English High School.  As a pre-med student at Tufts University he joined the V12 Program and was later commissioned an Ensign in the United States Navy at Columbia University.  He was assigned to the U.S.S. Stoddard as a communications officer and was present in Tokyo Bay for the signing of the treaty with Japan on August 15, 1945.  After completing his undergraduate courses at Tufts, he moved on to Tufts Medical School and graduated in the class of 1951.  He completed a five year (1951-1956) residency program in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Boston City Hospital.

Dr. Dandrow was a Founding Fellow of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology, a Fellow of the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons.  He was a member of the Obstetrical Society of Boston, the American Fertility Society, the American Association of Gynecologic Laparoscopists, the American Society for Colposcopy and Cervical Pathology, and the Massachusetts Medical Society.

He was an Associate Clinical Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Tufts Medical School until his retirement in 2000.  He also had teaching appointments at Boston University and Harvard University Schools of Medicine.

He was a Visiting Surgeon in Obstetrics and Gynecology at St. Margaret’s Hospital for Women, Boston, Boston Lying-in Hospital, Boston City Hospital, University Hospital, Carney Hospital and Faulkner Hospital.  He was the former Chief of Gynecology at Milton Hospital and past president of the medical staff at St. Margaret’s Hospital.

Dr. Dandrow was involved in a number of significant research projects over the years.  He was the Clinical Director and Senior Investigator U.S.P.H.S. Grant (Boston City Hospital and Boston Lying-in Hospital) for the Study of Abnormal Carbohydrate Metabolism in Pregnancy (1954-1969).

He was a lector at Saint Elizabeth Church in Milton, a long-time member of the Neighborhood Club of Quincy and a member of Fuller Village Resident’s Association and Winmiir Resident’s Association.

Friends and family are invited to attend visiting hours from 3-8 pm on Thursday September 1 at Dolan Funeral Home, 460 Granite Avenue, Milton.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated  Friday, September 2 at 11:00am in Saint Elizabeth Church, Reedsdale Road at Randolph Avenue, Milton.  Interment Milton Cemetery.

John A. Sadler

John A Sadler, of Dorchester, died as a result of injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident, at Lahey Clinic, Burlington, Sunday August 21, 2011. He was 49 years old. Born in St. Kitts he has been a Boston resident for many years. Beloved husband of Donna R. Sadler. Loving father of Jahquicia Bryant, John Sadler and Jermaine Sadler. William P. “Bill” Morrissey, Jr.

William P. “Bill” Morrissey,  Jr., of Raynham, formerly of Dorchester, died on August 26, 2011. He was the beloved husband of June B. (Lamb) Morrissey. Son of Irene (McGann) Morrissey of Dorchester and the late William P. Morrissey, Sr. Father of William P. Morrissey, III and his wife Nicole of Middleboro and Brian Morrissey of Raynham. Grandfather of Ryan, Emma, Jackson, Madeline and Casey. Brother of Maryellen Morrissey of Dorchester, Patricia Kavanaugh of Dennis, Kathleen Finn of Stoughton, Elizabeth Morrissey of Dorchester, Richard Morrissey of Millis and the late Irene Parr. Paul Thomas Andrews

Paul Thomas Andrews, 73, of Milton entered into eternal rest at his home on August 23, 2011, surrounded by his loving family after a short illness. Paul was a lifelong resident of Milton.  After graduating from Milton High School, he went on to graduate from Wentworth Institute of Technology with a degree in architecture.  He worked for St. Agatha’s Parish in Milton for many years before going into business himself and opening Andrews Decorating Center in Newton, which he proudly owned and operated for 30 years.  He was an avid train and plant enthusiast , and stamp collector. He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Madeline (Mullen) Andrews, his devoted brother Charles H. Andrews, Jr. and wife Esther of Raynham and brother Robert Andrews and wife Mary of AZ.  He was the brother of the late John F. Andrews and dear uncle to the late Sharon da Silva.  He will be forever missed by his nieces, Eleanor Andrews, Linda Andrews, Alana Andrews, Keri Labadie, Jennifer DiGiorgio, Charlene Robinson and his nephews, Michael Andrews, Brian Andrews, Chad Andrews and Charles da Silva.  He is also survived by many great nieces and nephews.  He was the loving son of the late Charles H. and Helen (Burke) Andrews, Sr. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Saint Agatha Church, 440 Adams St. Milton, Saturday, August 27 at 10:30 AM.  Interment Milton Cemetery.  Relatives and friends invited to attend.  Visitation Friday 4-7 PM in Dolan Funeral Home, 460 Granite Ave. MILTON.
