Bassill, Allan

 

Allan Bassill, 71, of Milton MA.  He was predeceased by his wife, Sophie (Mazurkiewicz) Bassill.  Allan is survived by his daughter Marlene Bassill-Martocchio and her husband Robert of Lynn, his son Gary Bassill of Cambridge and his daughter Kim Bassill of Brockton.  Grandchildren Andrew, Nicole and Abbie of Lynn.  Al is also survived by 3 sisters and 1 brother.  He also leaves many nieces and nephews.  He was the son of Joseph and Hazel (Leonard) Bassill.

 

Allan grew up in the Andrew Square area of South Boston.  He worked at DiMare Brothers in Boston running all of the warehouse machines.  He then used his experience he obtained growing up collecting scrap metal, performing errands, and hauling trash with a horse “Betsy” and wagon.  In 1968, he purchased Auburn Trucking Corp and named one of his first dump trucks “Betsy”.  Al was known in the industry as one of the hardest workers there was and the mold was broken after he was made.  He was known as “Al Auburn” by many.  He often reminisced about all the work he did over the years and shared comical stories about them as well.  Al retired as President of Auburn Trucking Corp, Disposal Contractors, of South Boston in 2010.

 

He was passionate about collecting various items and performing carpentry projects.  He loved old movies, Rock-n-Roll music and was always on the dance floor with some of his signature moves.  Al loved both nature and animals.  He had a great sense of humor including “one-liners”.  He gained a wide range of knowledge, as well as, devotion and strong work ethic that was passed down to his children.

Services to be held on Monday December 2, 2013 from 9-11am at Dolan & Chapman 5 Canton Ave Milton MA  02186. Interment Cedar Grove Cemetery 920 Adams Street Dorchester MA  02124. John J. “Jack” Shaughnessy

John J. “Jack” Shaughnessy, retired president of Shaughnessy and Ahern Co. and Shaughnessy Crane Service, Inc. of Boston, a resident of Milton, died Wednesday November 27, 2013. Predeceased by his beloved, magnificent wife of 53 years Mary E. (Lagace) Shaughnessy. Loving father of Stephen and his wife Hazel of Cheshire, England, Jack Jr. and his wife Barbara of Hingham, James and his wife Joan of Hanover, Michael and his wife Carol of Hingham, Susan Harrison and her husband Ian of Hanover, Linda LeRoy and her husband Peter of Braintree and Elizabeth “Lisa” Whalen and her husband Mark of Quincy. Jack is survived by seventeen grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Brother of the late Ruth VanCleve, Ann Walczak and Herbert A. “Al” Shaughnessy. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Saint Elizabeth Church, Reedsdale Road at Randolph Avenue, Saturday November 30 at 11:00 AM. Frances L. Johnson

Frances L. (Ballou) Johnson, 89, of Milton, MA and Tarpon Springs, FL, formerly of Hillsboro, NH and Lynn, MA passed away at Milton Hospital on Sunday, November 24th after a brief illness.  Born Frances Lorine Kozak in Wagoner, OK on February 22, 1924 to the late Phillip and Anna (Jorski) Kozak.  She is survived by her three children Harold Ballou and his wife Susan of Mount Joy, PA, Cheryl (Ballou) Corbett and her husband David of Hernando, FL and Anita Ballou and her spouse Pam Mortland of Milton.  Frances is also survived by her sister Martha of Oklahoma and four grandchildren Joseph Ballou of Brimfield, Michael Ballou of Japan, Kevin Ballou of Japan and Rachel Dow of Lynn along with eleven great grandchildren. She also leaves nieces, nephews and many good friends.  Frances was predeceased by her grandson, Ryan Dow, her siblings Theresa, Lucy, Frank, Clemons, Felix, Phillip Jr., and Helen.  She was the wife of the late Orison F. Ballou and the late Ralph W. Johnson.  Throughout her life Frances volunteered her spiritual gift of hospitality, openness, caring for others and good fellowship.  Frances was a faithful Seventh Day Adventist and a member of the Palm Harbor Seventh Day Adventist church and the Braintree Seventh Day Adventist Church.  She was passionate about the Sabbath Trail and the Washington New Hampshire Seventh Day Adventist Church and volunteered her time working on the trail and hosting other volunteers in her home in Hillsboro.  A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 30th at 2 P.M. in the Dolan Funeral Home, 460 Granite Avenue, EAST MILTON. Relatives and friends invited.  Visiting hours will be held from 12-2 P.M. on Saturday prior to the service. Anne C. McCarthy

Anne C. (Bosworth) McCarthy, Nov. 22, of Abington formerly of Milton, Devoted mother of Charles J. McCarthy of Milton, Michael. K. McCarthy of Weymouth, Shawna A. Murray of Abington, Katie Lussier of San Diego, CA, Paul D. McCarthy of Wakefield,  Maura McCarthy-Conrad of Cambridge, and the late John J. McCarthy. Grandmother of Madeline, Louisa, Merete, Michael, Jacquelyn, Brianna, Jessica, Benjamin, Erin, Rachel, DJ, Dana, Paul, Maya, Maxx and the late Nicole.  Sister of Mary Houlahan of Milton, David Bosworth of Milton, Walter Bosworth of Harwichport and the late Charles B. James M. Egan

James M. Egan, 86, passed away on November 23, 2013.  He was predeceased by his first wife, Frances (McGann) Egan and his second wife Marie (Nagle) Egan.  James is survived by his loving children Frances Keane and her husband William of Milton, Susan Egan of Marshfield, James M. Egan and his wife Robin of Hanover and Marianne Penella and her husband John of Marshfield.  He is also survived by his cherished grandchildren Matthew Keane, Elizabeth Keane, Matthew Penella, James M. Egan III, John Egan and Katherine Egan.  James also leaves many loving nieces and nephews. He was a proud World War II Navy veteran.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, November 27 at 10 A.M. in Saint Gregory’s Church, 2223 Dorchester Avenue, Dorchester.  Relatives and friends invited.  Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday from 4-8 P.M. in the Dolan Funeral Home, 460 Granite Avenue, EAST MILTON.

Frances G. (Kennedy ) Stapleton, of Milton, on November 21, 2013. Beloved wife of the late Eugene J. Stapleton.  Loving mother of  Carolyn Stapleton of Newton, Maryellen Kiley of Swampscott  and Patrick J. Stapleton and his wife Catherine of Milton and the late Nancy Mercurio.  Sister of  Mary Hakanson of Norwell. Also survived by her grandchildren: Elizabeth, Christine, Patrick, Jr. and Jack  and great grandchildren:  Shawn, Caitlynne, Ryan and Michael. A resident of Milton for many years, Frances had been a 40 year member of Catholic Daughters of America.   Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Saint Agatha Church, Adams St. at Brook Rd. Eugene J. “Gene” Mahoney

image002Eugene J. “Gene” Mahoney passed away Wednesday November 20, 2013.  He is predeceased by his wife of 45 years, Lora Mahoney.  He is survived by his son Daniel Mahoney and his wife Alicia of Quincy and his son Mark Mahoney of Braintree.  He is also survived by his granddaughter Lora of Quincy.  He was the son of Bartholomew and Mary Mahoney of Dorchester, originally from County Cork, Ireland.

Gene grew up in the Savin Hill section of Dorchester and he was very proud of that.  He graduated from Christopher Columbus High School in the North End and received a BSBA from Suffolk University.  He was a big believer in education and bettering yourself.  He lived in Braintree and West Dennis.  Gene was a self employed Real Estate Consultant and Developer.  He is the former Assessor of the Town of Braintree.

He had a very impressive career in real estate.  He was the former real estate expert for Coca Cola and several other corporations and travelled the country for them handling their large real estate problems.  He was the owner of Mahoney Associates, a real estate appraisal firm with 10 appraisers.  He was the owner of The Kingsbury Club in Kingston.  He loved to restore old buildings as he did in his office building in Braintree that was originally built in 1830.  He also owned and restored South Hyannis Light, a lighthouse on Cape Cod.  He was mentioned in articles and books about light house restorations.

He also built many houses and most of them on Cape Cod.  He took great pride in knowing he was the first person to build low income housing down the Cape.  He really enjoyed sitting on his dock with his wife Lora at their home in Wrinkle Point in West Dennis.  He loved weekend trips in the winter to Manhattan.  He also loved “going home” which were his many trips to Ireland.  He travelled to Ireland in excess of 30 times.  Having only boys, it was with great pride that he gave away his cousin at her wedding in Ireland.

Gene was a devout Catholic and a believer in “You can’t do everything by yourself.  Everybody needs help”.  He was involved in every church where he was a parishioner.

Gene was a 4th degree Knight of Columbus, a member of the Metropolitan Club in Manhattan, the 100 Club of Boston and The Clover Club of Boston.

He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Cadigan, Jr. passed away unexpectedly on November 11, 2013.  William was predeceased by his parents Eleanor (McManaman) and William Cadigan, Sr.  Loving cousin to Beverly Stratton of Milton, Mary Louise Forrester of North Carolina and Paul Murphy of Brighton.  He is also survived by many great nieces and nephews.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Saint Agatha Church on Saturday at 10:30 A.M. corner of Adams Street and Brook Road.  Relatives and friends invited.  Visiting hours will be held at Dolan-Chapman Funeral Home, 5 Canton Avenue, MILTON VILLAGE, from 8-10 A.M.
