James Raso

Raso_JameswebJames Raso, 76, of Dorchester passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, January 26, 2014.  Jim was born in Charlestown, MA and was the son of the late Anthony and Margaret Raso.

Jim was a graduate of Christopher Columbus High class of 1955.  After high school he worked at the Fish Pier in Boston where he met Anna (O’Connell) Raso.  They were married on April 15, 1961.  He was also a proud veteran of the United States Army.  Upon his return, he attended college at Boston University at night while he worked fulltime during the day.  Jim worked at Honeywell, Computenics and Boston University.

Jim enjoyed socializing with his friends at the McKeon AMVETS Post in Dorchester, gardening, traveling and most of all spending time with his family.  He was an active member of the Saint Gregory’s Parish and a loyal contributor to the Disabled American Veterans Organization.

Jim is survived by his wife, Anna Raso of Dorchester, and his children James Raso of Haverhill, and Margaret Raso of Dorchester.  Jim also leaves behind his brothers Anthony Raso and his wife Ellen of Medford and Francis “Billy” Kelly and his wife Barbara of Charlestown.  He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Gregory’s Church, DORCHESTER, Friday, Jan 31, at 11 o’clock. Visiting Hours in the Dolan Funeral Home, 1140 Washington St., DORCHESTER LOWER MILLS Thurs. 4 – 8 pm. Phelan, ElizabethElizabeth A. “Beth” Phelan, of Quincy, January 24, 2014. Beth was a special education teacher at the Gates Intermediate School in Scituate. She will be missed by her family, friends, students and colleagues. Devoted daughter of the late Arthur J. Phelan Jr. and Mary T. (Lovett) Phelan. Loving sister of Anne Phelan Bowen of Quincy and Kevin M. Phelan and his wife Janet of South Weymouth. Cherished aunt of Michael K., Richard J. and Nicholas M. Phelan. Frances (Buckas) Phipps

Frances (Buckas) Phipps, of Dorchester, surrounded by her loving family, January 24, 2014. Beloved wife of the late Eugene R. Phipps. Loving mother of David E. Phipps of Dorchester and Kenneth F. Kamel Hamade

Kamel Hamade of Beirut, Lebanon who was killed trying to protect the patrons of his restaurant, Taverna du Liban, in Kabul, Afghanistan when the restaurant was attacked by Taliban terrorists on January 17, 2014.  He is the beloved husband of Nabila Hamade of Beirut Lebanon, the dear son of Nadia Hamade of Milton, MA; the loving father of Muna Hamade of London, UK and Teema Hamade of Dubai, UAE; the dear brother of  Dr. Zuhayr Hemady, and Dr. Faisal Hamada of Milton, MA, Hussein Hamade of Beirut, Lebanon, Dr. Ossama Hemadeh of St. Petersburg, FL, Dr. Ghassan Hamada of Beirut, Lebanon and Dr. Mohamad Hamady of London, UK, and the beloved uncle of Omar Hemady of Boston, MA, Nadia Hemady and Kareem Hamada of Milton, MA. As a brave martyr, a beloved son, a devoted husband, a loving father, a dear brother and a  wonderful friend to all he met he will be missed forever. Lisa Marie (Rota) Mattie

Mattie – Lisa (Rota), passed away after a long battle with ovarian cancer, at her home in Stoughton, surrounded by her family, Tuesday January 21, 2014. She was 49 years old. Raised in Milton, Lisa was a graduate of Milton High School and Johnson & Wales University in Rhode Island. Lisa enjoyed the simple things in life – family, friends, a wine pop, crochet hook and a good campfire. Most importantly, her good humor and infinite strength leaves us with a contagious positive outlook on life, no matter the circumstances. Lisa’s attitude shined ever so bright on everyone who knew her. She is survived by her loving husband Kevin J. Mattie and daughter Samantha M. Mattie, both of Stoughton. Beloved daughter of Robert J. and Janice M. (Ferreira) Rota of Milton. Sister of Laurie A. and her husband Brian Collins of Braintree and Michael C. and his wife Nancy J. Joseph G. Graziani, Jr.

Joseph G. Graziani, Jr. of Milton passed away on January 18, 2014 after a long illness. Son of the late Joseph G. and Helen (Murphy) Graziani. He is survived by many loving cousins and close friends. Joe was born in Boston, raised and educated in Milton where he spent most of his life. A graduate of Milton High class of 1950. Joe was also a veteran of the United States Army during the Korean conflict. At their August 21st meeting, Milton Selectmen honored Joe with a proclamation citing his lifelong dedication to his town and his country. Joe was a very special man who grew up in the Houston Avenue neighborhood and served the town from the 1950’s through 2010. At the age of 23 he was elected a Town Meeting member and was re-elected for nearly four decades. During those years he was also elected Park Commissioner, Town Treasurer, appointed Town Accountant and later served as the Town Veteran Agent. Joe Graziani participated in many civic groups and was an active member of Saint Mary of the Hills parish. He also coached and sponsored Babe Ruth and Pee Wee baseball teams. In recent years he has served on the Milton Retirement Board and the Council on Aging Board of Directors. The proclamation at the August 21st meeting concluded with: “Joseph Graziani has been held in the highest esteem by his many friends and colleagues and his reputation as a town official and a citizen of Milton is that of a true gentleman.” A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, January 24 at 11 A.M. in Saint Mary of the Hills Church, 29 Saint Mary’s Road, Milton. Relatives and friends invited. An hour of visitation will be held on Friday morning at the Dolan-Chapman Funeral Home, 5 Canton Avenue, MILTON VILLAGE from 9-10:30 A.M. Interment Milton Cemetery.
