Justin A. Sullivan

Sullivan of Milton, Nov 9, after a brief illness.  Cherished husband of Mary Elizabeth, beloved father of Elizabeth, Kate and Justine, and devoted grandfather to Maxwell, Jonah, Orion, Henry, William and Mae Elisabeth.  He is survived by his siblings and their spouses, Joanne and William Knowles, Robert and Janet Sullivan and numerous nieces and nephews.

Justin was a dedicated English teacher at Milton High School for nearly 35 years, touching the lives of countless students.  Justin was also a lifelong member of St. Agatha’s Parish, serving as a religious education teacher and as a Eucharistic Minister.

Justin was an avid reader and crossword puzzler, he loved Frank Sinatra, flowers, and most of all, spending time with his grandchildren. They were the light of his life.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Agatha’s Church, MILTON, Fri., Nov. 14, at 10:30 o’clock.  Visiting Hours in the Dolan Funeral Home, 460 Granite Ave., EAST MILTON SQUARE, Thurs. 4 – 8pm. Anne E. Rugo

Anne E. Rugo, 57, of Canton passed away on November 9, 2014.  She was predeceased by her husband William F. Ahearn, her father Joseph F. Rugo, III and her brother Joseph F. Rugo, IV.  Anne is survived by her mother Mary E. Rugo of Centerville, her brothers Michael Rugo of Boston and Thomas R. Rugo and his wife Susan of Centerville.  She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, November 13 at 9 AM in Saint Agatha Parish, 432 Adams Street in Milton.  Family and friends will gather at Dolan Funeral Home, 460 Granite Avenue, EAST MILTON, on Thursday morning at 8 AM.  Interment Holyhood Cemetery. 

Lisa A. Noonan

Lisa A. (Murnane) Noonan, died peacefully at home in Milton surrounded by her family, Saturday November 8, 2014. She was 52 years old. Born in Weymouth, Lisa was raised in Milton and a Class of 1980 graduate of Milton High School. She was a salesperson for the furniture department at Macy’s, Braintree. Her creativity was exemplified by her passion for art, photography and jewelry making.  In addition to selling her work, she loved making gifts for family and friends. Lisa was active in her children’s lives as a supporter of her son’s many football teams and coach of her daughter’s Milton Youth Softball team. Beloved wife of Christopher M. Noonan. Loving mother of Jennifer Noonan and Nicholas Noonan. Cherished daughter of Nancy A. Langton-Christians and the late James Murnane. Sister of Timothy Murnane of Georgia, Gregory Murnane of Weymouth and the late Matthew Murnane.  Lisa truly inspired her whole family with her quiet, elegant, unwavering strength.  The love Lisa and her family shared is forever. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Saint Agatha Church, Adams Street at Brook Road, Milton, Wednesday November 12 at 10:30 AM. HOWARD – Jean A. (Cogliano) Howard, of Dorchester on Nov. 2, 2014 at age 103.  Wife of the late John Howard Jr. Daughter of the late William and Rose (Cosentino) Cogliano. Sister of Joanne Owens, Vincent Cogliano and the late Mary Cogliano, the late Ann Murphy, the late Loretta Cogliano, the late Frank Cogliano and the late Joseph Cogliano.  Also many nieces and nephews.  Visiting hours will be held in Dolan Funeral Home, 1140 Washington Street, DORCHESTER LOWER MILLS on Saturday from 9:30 – 10:30 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. in St. Mark’s Church, Dorchester. Antonio Lamerique passed away peacefully at his home in Mattapan on October 28, 2014. Beloved father of Yvrose Lamerique, Maryse Lamerique, Carline Lamerique, Pierre Richard Lamerique, and Bertholot Lamerique. Cherished brother of Alourdes Breneus and Roger Lamerique. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Saint Angela Church, Saturday, November 8, 2014 at 10AM followed by a burial at Mt. Hope cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church at 9AM.

Bernard T. “Bernie” Curley

Bernard T. Curley, “Bernie”, of Dorchester, MA and Corinth, VT passed away peacefully with his family by his side, on All Saints Day, November 1, 2014, at the age of 81.

Bernie was born and raised in Dorchester and was a graduate of Dorchester High School. He was a standout athlete in high school and he earned several varsity letters in football, baseball, hockey, basketball and track.

Bernie particularly excelled at baseball, playing in the Boston Park League for more than 20 years and he was admitted into the Boston Park League Hall of Fame. Bernie also played many seasons for the Boston Typos, a semi-pro team. Bernie was passionate for all Boston sports teams and Notre Dame football. He was a former Coach of the Codman Athletic Club and St. Matthew’s Baseball team.

Bernie’s early career was as a typesetter for The Boston Herald, and Nimrod Press, and he went on to work for the City of Boston, in the property management department at Hyde Park Municipal, Boston City Hall and Municipal Police.

Bernie was involved in many social activities with the City of Boston Youth Activities Commission and VINFEN Human Services, for the mentally ill. He also organized and coordinated the Dorchester Old Timers Club monthly events.  An avid skater, he was part of the Boston Skating club as well.

Bernie was predeceased by his parents, Leo E. Curley and Mary Hickey and his siblings Robert Curley of California, and Theresa Roche of Middleboro MA.  He is survived by his brothers, Leo Curley and James Curley of Seattle WA and his sister, Rosemary Curley of Marshfield, MA. In addition, he leaves his dear and longtime companion, Carol Campbell of Allston, MA.

The joy of his life were his children, Leo E. Curley II, and wife Patricia of North Andover MA, Kathleen Curley of Corinth VT, David Curley of Newton MA, Susan Oslund and husband David of Moodus, CT, and Gary Curley of Enfield, NH. He also adored his grandchildren, David Woodman, Melissa and Caroline Curley, and Cohbin and Shea Curley. Bernie also leaves numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

Bernie shared with his friends his love of sports, the Boston Red Sox and Bruins, the Patriots, Notre Dame, and golf. He will be remembered as a kind spirit, a loving and caring friend to everyone, and he wanted a “happy” place for all. The family would like to thank the staff at Eventide Nursing Home in Quincy MA  with special thanks to Rosie, Ellen, Danuta, Lilly, Kim,  and Emily, for the care given to our Dad.

Visiting hours will be held at the Dolan Funeral Home, 460 Granite Ave, EAST MILTON, MA. on Wednesday, November 5, 2014 from 4-8 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Agatha’s Church, 432 Adams St. Milton, MA on Thursday, November 6 at 10:30AM. A burial will take place in Vermont at the convenience of the family

Lillian F. Scherban

Scherban, a retired educator and world traveler, died at Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital – Milton, October 18, 2014. Born April  5, 1927 in Boston, she was raised in Dorchester by her beloved parents, the late Dimitri and Mary Scherban. Lillian graduated from Dorchester High School for Girls at 16 years old. After high school she attended MIT for 2 years and was the only woman to work on the power supply for B17 Bombers during the World War II. Lillian left MIT and began her career as a nun in a French order, Daughters of the Holy Spirit in Putnam, CT. She took the name of Sister Marie Omer du Christ. It was in the convent that she earned her BA degree and developed fluency in French. Lillian left the convent after 15 years, but never broke her vows. She became a teacher and later obtained a Master’s degree in French at the University of Hawaii. Lillian then began her study of the Russian language and added Russian to her languages of fluency. She also studied Chinese and Japanese. Lillian taught French and Russian at Newton North High School and at Lincoln-Sudbury High School. Lillian was the chairperson of the language department at Lincoln-Sudbury when she retired. In Lillian’s words: “At heart I am a missionary. My mission is Education.” Lillian received an honorary doctorate from the Kazan State Technological University in Russia in recognition of her leading role in the promotion of International Relations. The only other woman to receive such an honor was Margaret Thatcher. Lillian coordinated exchange programs for Russian and US students. Milton High School was amongst the participants. Lillian spent her retirement years in Long Beach California and then at Fuller Village in Milton. She was a member of the Teacher’s Retirement Association of Massachusetts and was a representative on the Fuller Village Resident Association. She was kind and generous to her family and friends, an avid reader, enjoyed taking pictures and loved to travel. Beloved sister of Anne Thompson of Quincy and the late Nicholas Scherban, Michael Scherban, Helena McNeill, Jennie Guido, Samuel Scherban and Mary Spencer. Lillian is survived by many nieces and nephews, many great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Saint Agatha Church, Adams Street at Brook Road, Saturday November 8 at 12 Noon. Relatives and friends invited. Visiting hour at Dolan & Chapman Funeral Home, 5 Canton Avenue, MILTON VILLAGE, Saturday 10:30-11:30 AM. William T. Dolan

Dolan, William T. for website onlyWilliam T. “Bill” Dolan, 67, of Marshfield and Virginia Beach, VA formerly of Milton, died October 31, 2014 after a brief illness.  His parents Joe and Virginia Dolan, his sister Kathy Newberry, and his first wife Janet Keezer of Eastport, Maine predeceased him. A passionate family man, he is survived by his devoted wife of 34 years Jill Byerly, his loving daughter Jennifer Hipsher and her husband Matt of Virginia Beach, his beloved grandchildren Will and Zach, his sisters Terry Dolan of Dorchester, Martha Cosgrove and her husband Brian of Milton, his brothers Joe Dolan, Jr. of Milton, Tom Dolan and his wife Maura of Westboro, and many cousins, nieces and nephews.  Bill attended Boston College High School and graduated from Fairfield University in 1969.  Following graduation he served for four years in the US Navy as a radioman, based initially in Machias, Maine subsequently in Keflavik, Iceland and finally on board the USS MacDonough. He retired several years ago after a long and successful career as an insurance adjuster and fraud investigator.  One of his great joys throughout his life was sailing on Spy Pond, in Boston Harbor, and in the Caribbean. Family and friends are invited to a wake at Dolan Funeral Home, 460 Granite Avenue, EAST MILTON, Friday November 7th from 4 pm to 8 pm including a brief service of remembrance at 7 pm.  Private interment services, honoring Bill’s request that his ashes be buried at sea, will be held in the spring. The family requests that no flowers be sent, but instead that donations be made in Bill’s memory to the New England Shelter for Homeless Veterans, or to the charity of your choice.

Hannah F. McCabe

McCabeHannah F. McCabe, a lifelong resident of Milton, died at Marina Bay Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation, Quincy, October 31, 2014. Beloved daughter of the late Michael and Mary (Mulcahey) McCabe. Hannah was born in Milton and a graduate of Milton High School, Class of 1937. She was the assistant Treasurer for the Town of Milton for over 20 years, and a communicant at Saint Elizabeth Church for many years. Hannah is aunt of Frank O’Neill of Milton, James O’Neill of Weymouth, Maura Overlan of Newport, RI, Michaela LaBelle of Charlotte, NC and Robert McCabe of Brockton. Funeral service Monday November 3 at 11:00 AM at Dolan & Chapman Funeral Home, 5 Canton Avenue, MILTON VILLAGE . Visitation will begin at 10:oo AM. Interment in the family lot at Milton Cemetery.
