Bernard T. Curley, “Bernie”, of Dorchester, MA and Corinth, VT passed away peacefully with his family by his side, on All Saints Day, November 1, 2014, at the age of 81.

Bernie was born and raised in Dorchester and was a graduate of Dorchester High School. He was a standout athlete in high school and he earned several varsity letters in football, baseball, hockey, basketball and track.

Bernie particularly excelled at baseball, playing in the Boston Park League for more than 20 years and he was admitted into the Boston Park League Hall of Fame. Bernie also played many seasons for the Boston Typos, a semi-pro team. Bernie was passionate for all Boston sports teams and Notre Dame football. He was a former Coach of the Codman Athletic Club and St. Matthew’s Baseball team.

Bernie’s early career was as a typesetter for The Boston Herald, and Nimrod Press, and he went on to work for the City of Boston, in the property management department at Hyde Park Municipal, Boston City Hall and Municipal Police.

Bernie was involved in many social activities with the City of Boston Youth Activities Commission and VINFEN Human Services, for the mentally ill. He also organized and coordinated the Dorchester Old Timers Club monthly events.  An avid skater, he was part of the Boston Skating club as well.

Bernie was predeceased by his parents, Leo E. Curley and Mary Hickey and his siblings Robert Curley of California, and Theresa Roche of Middleboro MA.  He is survived by his brothers, Leo Curley and James Curley of Seattle WA and his sister, Rosemary Curley of Marshfield, MA. In addition, he leaves his dear and longtime companion, Carol Campbell of Allston, MA.

The joy of his life were his children, Leo E. Curley II, and wife Patricia of North Andover MA, Kathleen Curley of Corinth VT, David Curley of Newton MA, Susan Oslund and husband David of Moodus, CT, and Gary Curley of Enfield, NH. He also adored his grandchildren, David Woodman, Melissa and Caroline Curley, and Cohbin and Shea Curley. Bernie also leaves numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

Bernie shared with his friends his love of sports, the Boston Red Sox and Bruins, the Patriots, Notre Dame, and golf. He will be remembered as a kind spirit, a loving and caring friend to everyone, and he wanted a “happy” place for all. The family would like to thank the staff at Eventide Nursing Home in Quincy MA  with special thanks to Rosie, Ellen, Danuta, Lilly, Kim,  and Emily, for the care given to our Dad.

Visiting hours will be held at the Dolan Funeral Home, 460 Granite Ave, EAST MILTON, MA. on Wednesday, November 5, 2014 from 4-8 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Agatha’s Church, 432 Adams St. Milton, MA on Thursday, November 6 at 10:30AM. A burial will take place in Vermont at the convenience of the family
