Nadieus Augustin Charlucien

Charlucien

Nadieus Augustin Charlucien, known to all of us as “Papi Nad”, was born on May 5, 1927, in the coastal town of Foucault, Haiti.  He was the beloved son of Anacia and Charleus and the youngest of 6 siblings.  Nadieus was cherished by all his siblings who cared for him and looked after him.  He had a special bond with his closest sister Ephanie known to us as Matante.  Ephanie was instrumental in making sure that her young brother learned how to read and write.  Ephanie negotiated with their father, convincing him to send Nadieus away to school as there were no schools in Foucault.   Their father was very reluctant to let him go away, fearing that Nadieus would be abused by strangers. On May 14, 1947, Ephanie and Nadieus would help build a small school. They would then build the first Catholic Church in Faucault in 1968 giving the opportunity for other children to attend school and church in their village.

While Nadieus received only the equivalent of a fifth-grade education; he valued education, he made sure that all his children went to school, giving each of them the best that he had.  Nadieus was very independent, smart, disciplined, determined, and forward thinking.  At the age of 84, he started taking English and computer classes and began studying for the US citizenship examination.  He took his studies very seriously. He never missed a class – rain, sleet, or snow.

Nadieus was a Christian, a loving husband, a proud and devoted father and grandfather, and a loyal friend.  He was a gentle man with an incredible inner strength.  He was very courageous and he never complained.  He fought a great fight battling prostate cancer up to his final breath.

Papi Nad, you are our favorite person and an inspiration to us all. You leaving us   has created a void which will never be filled.  We love you, we miss you, we thank you, and we pray that you are at peace.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Gregory’s Church, Dorchester,  on Saturday, January 23, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. Visitation will be held at the church at 9AM. Interment Cedar Grove cemetery

Memorial donations in lieu of flowers can be made in honor of Papi Nad to support the first Faucault primary school.
