Richard E. Ide

Richard “Dick” Edwin Ide, of Quincy, passed away December 30, 2016 at the age of 87.

Born in Hartford, CT to the late George and Mary (McCormack) Ide on March 14, 1929, Dick was raised and educated in Fitchburg MA.  He is survived by his children, Richard Ide Jr. and Sybil, Susan Ide and Kevin Donovan, David Ide and Cynthia, Catherine Ide, Margaret Grispi and Joseph; and his adored grandchildren, Michael, Harrison and Madeline Ide. He also leaves his brother, G. Douglas Ide and Elizabeth, and many caring nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews.

Following graduation from St. Bernard’s Central Catholic High School, Dick proudly served in the US Navy aboard the USS Wisconsin BB-64 during the Korean Conflict and then attended Boston University CBA.  He worked in the hospitality industry throughout Boston and the Dallas area, including several years as food & beverage manager for The Colonnade Hotel in Boston, and then dazzled patrons as a gifted bag boy at Roche Bros in Quincy in his senior years.

He was a devoted member and trusted volunteer in St. Gregory Parish of Dorchester for many years, an avid reader and all around sports fan.  As an independent yet very connected soul, he most enjoyed just being out and about interacting with people everyday. He had an extensive network of friends near and far, and he was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need.  His family has always been heartened by and extends their gratitude to his many friends, most especially Bruce, Jim, Larry, Griff, Fronz, Mary, Sally, Murph, Norma and Debbie.  Dick will forever be remembered for his fighting spirit, generous heart, and keen sense of humor.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend a Memorial Mass at 10:00 AM Monday, January 23 at St. Gregory Church, 2223 Dorchester Avenue, Dorchester. A light reception will follow.

Cevanor Valcin died December 16, 2016.

Beloved father of Wilkens, Nacky and Erntz Carter Valcin. Loving grandfather to Terrance Valcin.

Edna McDonnell

Edna (Killeen) McDonnell, of Milton, died Monday January 2, 2017.

Beloved wife of the late Henry J. McDonnell. Loving mother of John J. McDonnell and his wife Kristen of Framingham. Cherished Nana of Henry and Alexander. Edna is also survived by brothers and sisters and nieces and nephews.

Edna enjoyed gardening, walking and reading her daily newspaper. The most important aspect of her life was spending time with her family and her grandchildren who were the cornerstone of her life. She will be missed by all who had the pleasure to have known her.

Patrick J. Fallon

Patrick J. Fallon, of Weymouth, died suddenly Sunday January 1, 2017.

Beloved son of the late John L. and Veronica Fallon. Brother of Mary and Christopher Fallon of Milton, John and Robert Fallon of Dorchester and Anne Fallon of Quincy.

Patrick was born in Boston and grew up in Milton. Patrick was employed by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts as an IT Specialist for 25 years. He was a longtime member of the Quincy YMCA “EARLY BIRDS”. He will be missed by all who had the pleasure to have known him.

Clara Stephenson

Clara Stephenson, of Dorchester, formerly of the West End, in Westwood, in her 99th year, January 1, 2017.

Beloved daughter of the late Geli and Pare (Dimitri) Stephenson. Devoted sister of Martha Christo of Milton and the late Christo Stephenson, Andrew Stephenson, and Dorothy Paxton. Also survived by nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews and extended family.

Clara was a retired employee of Commonwealth of Massachusetts and a late member of the Daughters of Holy Trinity Church.

Russell S. Dowgos

DOWGOS, Russell S., originally from Dorchester, MA, living in Hickory, NC passed away on December 21, 2016 at Catawba Valley Medical Center surrounded by love and God’s light. Russell, 64, beloved husband of the late Doreen Y. (Chamberland) Dowgos joins her now, in heaven to continue their eternal love. He is survived by his loving son Jeffrey P. Dowgos and his wife Laura. As a father, Russell showed Jeffery the finest things in life: music, photography, humor, and the purest meaning of love and devotion.

Russell, a 10-year resident of Hickory, was a retired Postal Carrier in Wilkesboro, NC where he developed countless friendships. Prior to working for the USPS, he was a computer engineer for 30 years at companies including Arkwright Mutual Insurance and Children’s Hospital. He was born in Mattapan, MA on January 21, 1952, a son of the late Olga (Klepeckas) Dowgos and Adam Dowgos of Mattapan. Russell lived in Dorchester for many years before moving to North Attleboro, MA and then to Hickory.

As a young man, Russell played the drums and bass in a King Crimson-style band. Also, he was an artist specializing in pen-and-ink, chalk drawings, and nature photography. He will be missed greatly, but lives on in our memories. Specifically, in the many wonderful adventures he and Jeffrey shared together.

Besides his son, he is survived by step-grandson John F. Geffert, IV and his wife Kelly (Bradford) of Plymouth, MA. Russell was the brother of the late, Algard Dowgos, William Dowgos, and Barbara Robinson.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited for visitation at Dolan’s Funeral Home, 1140 Washington St, Dorchester, MA 02124, on Saturday, January 7th 9:30 to 11:00 AM, a memorial service will follow at 11:00 AM in the Dolan Funeral Home. Procession and interment in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Dorchester immediately following service.

John F. Bassett

Loving father of Lisa A. Bieling of Cohasset, MA, Andrea M. Smith of Pasadena, CA and George J. Bassett of Littleton, CO. Son of the late George and Rose (Restieri) Bassett. Papa to 7 beautiful grandchildren Allie, Rachel, Cameron, Caroline, Cole, Sam and Maya, uncle, cousin, and a dear friend to so many. For 57 years John enjoyed a successful career in the broadcasting industry. Affectionately known as ‘J.B.’, he will be sorely missed.

Judith L. Larson

Judith L. Larson, of Quincy, died at South Shore Hospital, Monday December 26, 2016.

Born in Boston, she was a graduate of Quincy High School, Class of 1954. Judy worked for Northeast Airline and Delta Airline as a supervisor. She later became a court stenographer, retiring in 1996.

Daughter of the late Ernest O. and Irma (Bryan) Larson. Sister of Gloria B. MacCarthy of Marshfield and Jerold B. Larson of Hingham. Judy is survived by several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.

At Judy’s request, funeral services were private.

David Michael Jrolf

David Michael Jrolf, of Milton, December 26, 2016.

Loving father of Madison, Delphine, Maeve and William, all of Milton. Son of the late John and Delphine (Jarantoski) Jrolf of Framingham. Brother of James Jrolf of Kansas City, MO; Thomas of Westford; Judy Stirrat of Beverly and Mark of Newton. Uncle and brother-in-law to many loving nieces, nephews and in-laws.

Born in Milwaukee, he moved to Framingham as a teenager and graduated from high school in Framingham. He earned his bachelor’s degree from Framingham State College and his master’s degree from Northeastern University. David was an avid reader, and a respected journalist whose long career as an editor included both the Boston Herald and the Boston Globe.
