Ruby L. Smith

Ruby L. Smith, of Dorchester, passed away on January 17, 2018 surrounded by her family.

Beloved  wife  of  the late Earl Smith.  Loving mother of Ellen Walker of Roslindale, Roland Smith and his wife Velma of Hyde Park, Margarite Smith of Watertown, Aben Smith of Louisiana, Mable Avinger-Smith and her husband James of South Carolina, Shirley Smith of Braintree, Raymond Smith and his wife Ester of Mattapan, Will Smith of Florida, Monalisa Smith-Marshall  and her husband Lendele of Dorchester,  Brenda White and her husband Billy of Randolph, Robert Smith of Dorchester, Bertha Smith of Canton, Johnny Smith of Dorchester and the late Ronald Smith.  Cherished grandmother of 33 grandchildren, 42 great-grandchildren and 9 great, great-grandchildren.  She is also lovingly survived by many nieces and nephews.

Ruby was a loving woman with a caring heart who not only raised 14 of her own children but helped care for all her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.  She was fondly   known  as  “ Mama” to everyone. In her earlier years Ruby enjoyed traveling with her husband Earl.  She enjoyed cooking, shopping and watching TV.  Most of all Ruby Loved her family who were truly the most important part of her life.  She will be missed by all who had the pleasure to have known her.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend visitation Monday January 22 in Mount Olive Kingdom Builders Worship Center, 234 Norfolk Street, Dorchester, 10:00am- 11:00am.  Service will follow at 11:00am.  Burial in Mount Hope Cemetery, Boston.

Sarah Elizabeth Silcott

Sarah, better known as “Miss Bessie”, “Aunt Bessie” or “Bessie Putty” went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, January 9, 2018 at her home in Boston, Massachusetts.  She died peacefully at the wonderful age of 102 years old.

Miss Bessie was born in Barzey’s, Montserrat on September 3, 1915 to Ann Barzey and James Blake.  She was a hard worker, she loved her family, and she loved to give to anyone in need.  She was an outstanding baker, best-known for her black fruit cake and coconut tart.  She also had an exceptional green thumb in caring for her many plants.

After a short stay in Antigua, she migrated to Curacao where she married her husband James M. Silcott, better known as “Uncle Jim” of Judy Piece.  Miss Bessie lived in Antigua, Curacao and Canada before migrating to Boston, Massachusetts in 1960, where she worked at the Boston State Hospital as a Dietician for many years until her retirement in 1986.  Miss Bessie and Uncle Jim moved back to Montserrat in 1987 and Uncle Jim preceded her in death in 2001.  Throughout the years, she’s traveled annually between Montserrat and Boston.  She made her last roundtrip voyage in 2015 at the age of 100.

Miss Bessie had one daughter, Ann Charlotte Elizabeth Froston, better known as “Brownie,” who preceded her in death in 2011.

She leaves to celebrate her life, her sister, Mrs. Christobel Daly, her grandchildren: Etlyn, Louis (Sharon), Leonard, and Ursline; her great-grandchildren: Tuva, Claudia (Omar), Anthony, Iluvia, and Imani; her great-great grandson: Bryson;  her niece Kathy Rolle and her nephew Ivan Allen; her care-givers: Mr. and Mrs. John Williams,  Ms. Nancy Lewis, Ms. Eileen Collins, Ms. Claire Benoit, Ms. Ola Olaniyan, Ms. Jean Ward, and Nurses: Jenella Hercules & Lavurn Diokoro and many, many other cherished family members and friends too numerous to mention!

At 102 years old, Mrs. Sarah Elizabeth Silcott has been promoted from labor to her heavenly reward!

Funeral Service at Greenwood Memorial Methodist Church, 378 Washington Street, Dorchester, Saturday January 20 at 10:00 AM. Visitation begins at 9:00 AM. Relatives and friends invited. Interment to follow at Oak Lawn Cemetery.

Robert L. Macomber Sr.

Robert L. Macomber Sr., of Milton, originally from Dorchester, January 14, 2018.

Beloved husband of 50 years of the late Virginia (Lynch) Macomber, orginally from Charlestown.

Devoted Father of Diane E. Mahan and her husband, Jack of Milton, Robert Macomber of Florida, Suzanne Dunphy of Florida, Daniel Macomber and his wife Meg of Norfolk, and Mark Macomber and his wife Marina of Milton. He is also survived by 8 grandchildren and 1 great grandson.

Mr. Macomber graduated from Suffolk University Law School and was a trial attorney for over 50 years. He was a proud veteran of the Korean War, serving as 1st Lieutenant in the Judge Advocate General’s Office in the United States Air Force. Bob was a dedicated family man whose love for his family and friends never wavered. He was also a golf enthusiast and was a member of Wollaston Golf Club in Milton and Eastward Ho! Country Club in Chatham, Massachusetts.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Saint Agatha Church, Adams Street at Brook Road, Milton, Thursday, January 18 at 12PM. Visiting hours at Dolan Funeral Home, 460 Granite Avenue, EAST MILTON SQUARE, from 9:30-11:30AM on Thursday morning. Relatives and friends invited.

Joan D. Garrity

Joan D. (Reardon) Garrity,  of Dorchester, January 13, 2018.

Beloved wife of the late John Garrity. Sister of Marilyn Slattery and her husband William of Norwell and the late Barbara R. Flynn and John Reardon, Jr.  Also survived by a niece and nephew.

Randy Smith

Randy Smith was born on July 1, 1960 to the late Future and Laura Smith in Rosemark Tennessee, he was the baby of 10 children born of this union.  Randy received his formal education from Barrett Chapel where he excelled in his studies. Randy accepted Christ in his life at an early age at Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church in Brighton, TN.

Randy moved to Boston Massachusetts in 1979. He worked for the Boston Public Schools Transportation Department for over 15 years. Randy really enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren. He enjoyed playing dominoes and listening to music. He was always there to lend a hand to any and every one in need. Randy Smith was truly blessed.

Randy was perceived in death by his loving father and mother Future and Laura Smith, and his brother John Edward “Billy” Smith.

Randy leaves to cherish his memory 11 children, 7 daughters: Denise Wilson of Memphis, TN; Latoya Jamison, Vivienne Harris, Miranda Smith, Alisha Smith, Kayla Smith and Shatoria Smith all of Boston, MA; 4 sons: Randy Jr. Reeder, Darrel Reeder, Dwayne Smith, and Demetrius Smith all of Boston, MA; 4 sisters: Joella (Charles) Roberts, Betty Chambers, Ida Jones all of Maryland, Annie Ruth Clark of Atoka, TN; 4 brothers: Tommie Lee Smith, Robert Nathanial (Barbara) Smith, Future Smith Jr. all of Boston, MA; Larry Smith of Fort Washington, Maryland, he also leaves to mourn 22 grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Randy Smith of Dorchester, passed away on Sunday, January 7, 2018. Visitation will be held on Saturday, January 20th, at 10AM.The Funeral Service will begin at 11AM at the funeral home. Interment at Oak Lawn Cemetery.

Betty Parker Sisson

 

Betty (Redfern) Parker Sisson, of Dorchester, January 10, beloved wife of Lucius Sisson. Loving mother of Michael, Marzette and Marcellus Parker, all of Boston, and the late Marlowe Parker. Sister of William Lucas and the late Dorothy Morris. Grandmother of Dorian Geoffrey and George Parker.

A  Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St Gregory’s Church, DORCHESTER, Saturday, January 20 at 10 o’clock. Interment Private.

Bernard Sneed

Bernard Sneed of Boston, died January 7, 2018 after a long illness. Beloved husband of Dorothy  Sneed (Jenkins) of Boston.  Loving father of Arthenis Sneed (Jackson) and  her husband Curtis of Dorchester and Andre Sneed of  Boston.  Brother of Phillip, Isaac, Elijah and Janice Sneed and the late Linda Sneed, Judy Parker, George and Fred Jr. Sneed.  Cherished grandfather of Akil Sneed, Jamari  Jackson, Nyree Sneed and Cianna Jackson.  Nephew of  Arlene Harris of Colorado.

Bernard worked for many years at University of Massachusetts Boston as the Director of Community Relations before retiring.  He was well known for his longtime community activist and helping kids in the community.  Bernard’s family was truly the most important aspect of his life.  He will be missed by all who had the pleasure to have known and loved him.
