Gloria Guarino

Gloria M. Guarino of Milton, formerly of Dorchester, Feb. 24, 2018. She is survived by lifelong and beloved companion Evangeline “Van” Chumacas, formerly of Haverhill and predeceased by eight older siblings, James Guarino of FL, Edith Piergrossi of Quincy, Elsie Heredeen of Norwell, Arthur Guarino of Pocasset, Emily Auglis of Bridgewater, Rosalie Sturgis of FL, Mario Guarino of CA, and Rae Caliri of Quincy. Devoted and loving Aunt of the late Janet (Guarino) Coull of Quincy, James Noel Guarino of FL, Robert Guarino of VT, Richard Guarino of Marstons Mills, the late Gerald Guarino of FL, Douglas Guarino of FL , Glenda Rocchi of Plymouth, Elaine Heredeen of Salem, Denise Heredeen of NH, Thomas R. Caliri and Richard M. Caliri, both of Marshfield. Also survived by many grand nieces and nephews. She also leaves her devoted and compassionate long time care giver Alicia Forte of Dorchester.

After graduating college where she met Van, Gloria spent most of her adult life helping others. She began her career in the health care field as a Medical Technician in Boston working for Dr. Ethan Allen Brown. As a renowned and innovative allergist, he had published many studies on allergies, their causes and treatments, most notably in the New England Journal of Medicine. Gloria and Van worked side by side treating patients including many famous Red Sox players and members of the Yawkee family. They also traveled the world with Dr. Brown visiting over fifty different countries as part of their professional research. Gloria later was very active in spearheading the organization of many blood drives for the benefit of children with leukemia.

An avid skier in her day, Gloria frequented her favorite Mt. Cranmore in North Conway, NH and loved to spend summer vacations with Van in Ogunquit, ME. She especially loved children and cherished spending time with her many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. Her generosity is only exceeded by the love of her family and she was known for hosting the holidays with loved ones, providing exquisite food and drink for all to enjoy. Coming from a large family, there were always crowds of people for her to host at special occasions.  Gloria was somewhat of an epicurean and enjoyed preparing gourmet dishes and old world Italian recipes handed down from her mother. She also frequented many of the top restaurants in Boston, and characteristic of her generosity, invited friends and family to join her. She was a Classical music lover and enjoyed attending Opening Night at the Boston Symphony Orchestra, but also loved listening to her favorite singer, Frank Sinatra.

Gloria was always very health conscious, especially with her diet and walked regularly when her health allowed. She went to physical therapy weekly and acupuncture as needed as part of her regimen. In her later years she enjoyed taking yoga lessons from one of her favorite nieces, Dotty, who worked religiously with her for over ten years. As a result, even at the age of 92, she was able to faithfully attended 5 o’clock Mass every Saturday, drive herself into Boston for weekly hair or doctor’s appointments and go shopping in the city she loved, while remaining mentally sharp to the end.

Gloria could be feisty and demanding at times, knew what she wanted in life and was never afraid to go for it or speak her mind. She held high standards for herself and expected everyone around her to live up to those ideals. However, her kindness, generosity and unselfishness overflowed to everyone she touched. It was never more evident than in the way she went to such great lengths to take  tremendous care of Van since she became ill. Even after death, Gloria made sure that her kindness would live on through Alicia and her staff, whose loyal and tenderhearted care will continue for Van.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Mary of the Hills Church, MILTON, Monday, March 5, at 11 o’clock. Visiting Hours in the Dolan & Chapman Funeral Home, 5 Canton Ave., MILTON VILLAGE, Sunday 2-6 pm. Interment Private. Donations in Gloria and Van’s names may be sent to the Alzheimer’s Assoc.

Ruperto Lynch

If you’re reading this right now, it’s because Ruperto Lynch impacted your life in some way. Because we all met him at different stages of his life, it feels best to begin getting to know a little more about him.

On May 10, 1928, Ruperto was born in Lagunillas, Venezuela to his parents Frank Lynch and Edith Phillip. He spent most of his young years in Grenada and returned to Venezuela at the age of 18 where he later managed an HVAC department for oil companies—first Shell. Co, followed by Maraven, PDVSA. He was seen as a respected mentor to many during his professional life of more than three decades.

In the mid ‘90s, Ruperto relocated to Boston to be closer to his growing family—where he was integral in the upbringing of 4 of his 11 grandchildren over the last 20 years. His joyful responsibilities grew as he soon became the the great-grandfather to three.

Throughout his long life, “retirement” was never a word that found a way into his vocabulary. During his years in Boston, he always found a way to keep himself busy and meet new people. If there’s one thing we can all agree on, it’s that Ruperto Lynch was the master of conversation. He loved to wake up early each morning, get ready for another day outside, and would often return home with stories from people he met along the way.

To many he was Senor Ruperto, Don Ruperto, Rupert, Rupertin, a compadre, a loving dad, a terrific grandad, husband, but overall a genuine friend. He is also survived by his wife Sheila, 9 children Ann, Leslie, Irma, Irmin, Irving, Jacklyn, Shirley, Raquel and Carol. His siblings, Herbert, Irma Nelly, Luisa, Ruby, Edith, Joseph, Peter, George, Victoria, Franklin, Roberto and Raynold.

Anyone who had the pleasure of meeting Ruperto Lynch understands that he always had a powerful, joyful, and curious spirit. He spent his lifetime helping others, exchanging knowledge through hour-long conversations, and sharing laughs and wisdom with everyone in his presence.

Visiting hours at Dolan Funeral Home, 1140 Washington Street, DORCHESTER LOWER MILLS, Thursday March 1 from 5-9PM. Relatives and friends invited.

In lieu of flowers, our family asks that you donate to the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America, The Dementia Society of America or the charity of choice. And we’d like to hope that you’d all take a little piece of Ruperto’s character with you today—taking a moment to speak with and learn something new from the people around you each day.

Archange Emmanuel Modestin

Pastor Archange Emmanuel Mondestin  1944 – 2018

A wise man once stated, “There are things in life we don’t want to happen but have to accept; things we don’t want to know, but have to learn; and people we can’t live without but have to let go.”  (Unknown author)

Today, we mourn the loss of a great man of God.  An amazing father, a devoted husband, a trusted friend, a spiritual leader who touched the lives of many.  Born Archange Emmanuel Mondestin, on December 1, 1944 in Port-Margot Haiti, son of Paul E. and Marie Maquila (Desir) Mondestin.

He studied at Diquini, the theological seminary in Haiti, and received a Master of Arts degree from the University of Montpellier, where he studied French Literature, Latin, classical Greek and pedagogy.  He was an educator in Haiti and France, teaching various subjects.  He married the former Unelle Noel and they were blessed with four children: Micheline, Monique, Paul-Emmanuel and Jacqueline.  Always attentive to the needs of his family, he spared no sacrifice for their well-being.  He was later blessed with eight grandchildren who served as an additional source of joy in his life.  He knew and loved each one of them dearly.

Pastor Mondestin was a third generation Adventist and accepted the Lord as his personal savior at an early age.  As a man of faith and belief in the Lord, he also accepted his call to ministry.  He entered the gospel ministry in 1979 at the recommendation of Pastor M.D. Bermingham, coordinator of the French work for the Northeastern Conference.  He was a loving and faithful pastor who mentored many and served the following churches:  Horeb SDA Church, Temple Salem SDA Church, Brockton Temple SDA Church, Philadelphie SDA Church, Ephese SDA Church, Beraca SDA Church, and Laodicee SDA Church.  After retirement, he continued to serve by assisting fellow pastors with weeks of prayer, evangelistic efforts and other church activities.  He especially ministered to a growing church community in Wyandanch, NY, Sion SDA Church.  Faith and belief in the Lord continued to be the cornerstones of his life.

Pastor Mondestin was the author of Connaissance et Liberte, a book written to teach Christianity and Adventism to the upcoming Haitian generation. The book was published in 1983.  Some of his favorite pass-times included reading, studying the Bible, preaching, teaching, writing, poetry, various styles of music, and engaging in stimulating conversation while spending time with friends and family.  He had a simple and yet profound understanding of life and the world around him.  He accepted life as it came with a fearless determination based on His faith and belief in Jesus-Christ.

On Wednesday, February 14, 2018 the Lord called his servant to rest.  He leaves behind his wife Unelle Mondestin, their four children: Micheline Mondestin-Cenafils and her husband Marco Cenafils, Monique Mondestin-Jean and her husband Richard Jean, Paul Emmanuel Mondestin and his wife Sarah Mondestin, Arthur Sekasula, Jacqueline Mondestin and fiancé Pastor John Ricci.  He leaves behind eight precious grandchildren: Michaela Cenafils, Myah Cenafils, Milan Cenafils, Mia Cenafils, Zoe Sekasula, Zarielle Sekasula, Ethan Jean and Hosanna Mondestin.  He also leaves behind his siblings Anna Mondestin, Mercilina Mondestin, Elie Mondestin, their children and a host of extended family members across the United States, Haiti and beyond.  He will be greatly missed.

Death may represent the end of life on this earth, but it will never bring to end the love we shared and the hope we hold dear…that of spending eternity with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ upon His soon return.  Until then, may this hope bring us comfort and peace.

Visitation will be held at the Temple Salem Church on Sunday, February 25 from 1:30-3PM. The Funeral Service will begin at 3PM. Interment at Forest Hills Cemetery on Monday, February 26 at 11:30AM.
