Adrienne “Candy” Dillon Mattaliano, age 84, of Milton and Canton, passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones in her home on May 27.

Candy graduated Regis College and two years ago attended her 60th reunion to reminisce with several of her college friends. After college and a tour of Europe, she went to Santa Fe to teach at the Cristo Rey School as a Lay Apostolate for the St. Joseph’s Mission Unit. Her sense of humor would serve her hectic, full-time occupation, which she once quipped as being Administrator of Domestic Affairs. Her life was centered about her large family and volunteering for church and school activities, taught CCD in the St. Gerard Majella Parish of Canton and volunteered as a driver for FISH. She would continue her learning through classes, text and travel and also attended what is now the Woods College of Advancing Studies at Boston College. She raised her children in Canton, was a member of the Milton Hoosic Club, and cultivated many friendships to last throughout her years. Summers spent on Sagamore Beach gifted more treasured friends through the Sagamore Beach Colony Club and White Cliffs Country Club. Travel, skiing, tennis, golf, bridge would enrich her life in and outside her family for many years. She was an avid reader and she was part of book clubs in Milton, Sagamore and Naples. When the grandchildren arrived, she loved them with the liveliness she had many years before with seven children under the age of ten. With her beloved husband Joe by her side, they were never apart to delight and dote on them.

She is survived by her loving husband of 59 years, Joseph P. Mattaliano and was the only child of Frank and Helen Dillon. She had four sons and three daughters of whom include triplets and twins. Beloved mother of J. Paul Mattaliano and his wife Andra of Boston, David Mattaliano and his wife Laurie of Wellesley, her triplets Frank Mattaliano and his wife Sarah of Norfolk, Robert Mattaliano of CA and Megan Mattaliano of Milton and finally, her twins Suzanne Garrity and her husband John of Sudbury and Caitlin Kuhe and her husband Tucker of NY.  She is also survived by 11 grandchildren; Mariella, Mark, Davis, Christian, Jane, Grace, Jack, Finn, Cait, Evelyn and Betsy.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Saint Gerard Majella, 1864 Washington Street, Canton, on Tuesday, June 4^th at 10:00 AM.  Family and friends invited.  Visiting hours at Dolan Funeral Home, 460 Granite Avenue, EAST MILTON SQUARE, Monday from 4-8 PM.  Interment Milton Cemetery.

Frederick Fortey of Dorchester passed away on May 28, 2019 in Boston surrounded by his family. Beloved husband and best friend for 55 years to Anne Marie Fortey (Browning) of Dorchester. Devoted father of Barbara “Barbie” Blaney (Keith) of Braintree, Christine “Chrissy” Joyce (John) of Dorchester and Paul Fortey (Erin) of Dorchester. Brother of Edward Fortey of Quincy. Cherished grandfather of Nicholas, Mark and Kaitlyn Blaney of Braintree and Kaleigh, Ryan, Matthew and John Joyce of Dorchester.

Frederick was a well respected school teacher for Boston Public Schools for 40 years before retiring. He will be missed by all who had the pleasure to have known him.

Mrs.Ena Thomas, born Ena Greene on June 1^st, 1936 in Moriah Tobago, was called home on Sunday May 19^th, 2019 after a brief illness.  Exactly 50 years to the day of arriving to the US.  Daughter of Iris Bennett and Seibert Greene, granddaughter of Rose Bennett.  Granny was described as “the most beautiful girl in the dance by her husband Hubert, which was the night he first laid eyes on “His Ena”.  They recently celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary on April 27^th, 2019.  Together they have 3 wonderful children Frank, Cheryl and Bianca.   

When Mrs. Thomas was given the opportunity in 1969, to migrate to Boston, she was faced with the decision to leave her husband and young children behind.  Although it hurt her heart, she had to take the opportunity knowing that they will be taken care of and it was a chance to better her family life.  6 months later she was joined by her family and they were one again.  She briefly worked at the Hilton hotel, but eventually moved to The New England Telephone Company/Verizon where she remained until she retired. 

Ena is survived by her loving husband Hubert, children Frank Thomas, Cheryl Thomas Harvey, Bianca Thomas, Arnold Thomas, daughter in laws Cherylann and Lauren Thomas.  Grandchildren Tristan, Travis, Tiffany, Adrian, Leean, Ryan, Aquame, Frank Jr, Destini with an I, great grandchildren Tahkeel, Terrance, Timothy, and great-great-granddaughter  Destiny with a Y.   She is also survived by her siblings Ida, Yvonne, Gloria, Doreen, Jerry, Erla, Oswald, Hilton, Carlton and McDonald.   Preceded in death by her siblings Winna, Joy, Hamilton, Paul and her nephew Tracey “Buckey” Lewis.

Dad fondly remembers “His Ena” saying “Hugh, what kind of Bee honey wax is holding me to you?  His response was always “It’s The Green Banana” and they both will have a great laugh about it.

Being involved with carnival with the Coker’s, going to Bingo, conversing with Ms. Emlyn daily about General Hospital, her sister friend Ms. Lorna her partner in just about anything, chatting with Ms. Roslyn about everything, and all the times she would get dressed in her best and celebrate life with her friends that have passed on, the Roses and the Browns, was just a few of the activities and wonderful friends that made up Ena.  Her greatest achievement in the 82 years, 11 months and 18 days, while she was on loan to us was her FAMILY.  She will always say LOVE EACH OTHER every time she was leaving to return to Tobago.

Now that we are getting ready to send her on her final trip back to Tobago, we would like to pass on the same advice she gave us LOVE EACH OTHER and we thank you for loving her as she loved US ALL.

Visiting hours will be held at the Dolan Funeral Home, 1140 Washington St., DORCHESTER LOWER MILLS on Monday, June 3, 2019 from 4pm-6pm. The Funeral Service will begin at 6pm. Interment in Trinidad & Tobago at a later date.

Duncan Driscoll Finigan, of Milton, age 59. Duncan Finigan passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on May 26, 2019 after a lengthy battle with breast cancer.

Duncan was born and raised in Milton, the daughter of local pediatrician Robert Driscoll and his wife Mary Will Driscoll. Duncan was a graduate of Saint Mary’s of the Hills School, Fontbonne Academy and Boston College where she was both a varsity skier and tennis player.  She spent many years working in the footwear industry, notably with Reebok and Stride Rite, as well as other companies. In her final years, after being hired as its first employee, she worked for Oofos,  a recovery  footwear company, which outside of her family, was her greatest passion.

She is survived by her husband Tom and their four sons, Alec, Cavan, Duncan and Will, her brothers Dr. Daniel Driscoll and his wife Elaine of Milton, Terence Driscoll and his wife Peggy of Milton, Mark Driscoll and his wife Tracy of Dedham, and her sisters Dina Nichols and her husband Jay of Shrewsbury, Betsy Goyette and her husband Robert of Milton, Deirdre Michelski and her husband Bob of Milton, along with seventeen nieces and nephews.

Frank Neville Lynch, of Mattapan, went to be with the Lord on May 23, 2019. Beloved husband of Silvia Lynch of Mattapan. Loving son of Vera Greenidge, NY. Devoted father of Gary Lynch of Dorchester and Deikel McCray and her husband Dorian of Washington, DC.  Brother of Hazel Chase of NY, Vilma Rogers of MA, Janet Stewart of NY, Heather Greenidge of NY and Suzane Moton of Virginia.  First Cousin Victor Lynch of MA, Nigel Lynch of Barbados, WI, Norma Lynch of England, Vashti White of Canada, Angela King of Bostoon, Grantley Lynch of North Carolina. Son-in-Law to Roseman Headley, Brother of the late Velcie Craigg, Nephew of the late Lionel Lynch.  Cherished grandfather of Gary Jr., G’Zharia, Genice, Genea, Gavin and Giana Lynch and Asia McCray.  Great-grandfather of Gary III and Giordan Lynch.

Frank was born in St. Michael, Barbados West Indies.  He was in the printing industry and was a printer for Harvard University for over 30 years before retiring. Frank enjoyed spending time with his family who were truly the most important aspect of his life.  He will be missed by all who had the pleasure to have known him.

Anne Harriet (Dugan) Cotter, 79, of Milton, MA and Block Island, RI, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, May 17, 2019. Born on November 23, 1939 in Brookline, MA, to her loving parents William and Mary (Feeley) Dugan.

At an early age, Anne shared a joy for music singing with her parents in three-part harmony. On many occasions throughout her life Anne shared her beautiful voice at weddings, christenings, Sunday Mass, and countless family gatherings. She also inherited her love of hats from her mother, Mimi. Many still refer to Anne as “the Hat Lady.”

Anne grew up in Braintree attending Sacred Heart High School in Weymouth and graduated from Boston College School of Nursing in 1961. After graduation, Anne was handpicked to reside at the Kennedy Compound in Hyannis for a summer looking after the newest addition to the Kennedy family. She shared so many stories of her adventures spent with various members of the Kennedys and the lasting friendships that developed as a result.

Anne remained on the faculty at Boston College as an instructor of maternity nursing at St. Margaret’s Hospital in Dorchester, MA. It was there she met the love of her life, Dr. Paul F. Cotter. Anne and Paul would marry soon after on September 22, 1962 at Sacred Heart Church in Weymouth and start a family. Over the next eight years, they had six children. Anne shifted gears and became a full-time homemaker. Despite the demands of raising six children, their 56-year marriage was a true love story. Their adoration and devotion to each other never wavered and their love for their children and grandchildren was unconditional.

Anne was an active member of Catholic Charities, taught catechism classes, opened her home to unwed mothers in need of respite, and cared for several ailing elderly family members in their final years. Her home was a sanctuary to anyone in need. Anne was a true matriarch teaching by her example the importance of celebrating life with loved ones and showing compassion for others.

Anne masterfully orchestrated summer vacations for six kids, their friends, horses, a goat, a rooster, cats, dogs, and enough food and clothes for two months year after year on Block Island. Ski trips to Franconia, NH with the Doyle’s had a similar flare with an additional four kids, skis, boots, and poles. The annual fall “girls weekend” included Anne’s famous Block Island tour that guests experienced sitting in the back of the pickup truck. You name it Anne celebrated it in the family homes in Braintree and Stoughton and she was always the most elegant and gracious host. Whether on Block Island, in Franconia, Braintree, Stoughton, or Milton, you knew you could find food and fun at Anne and Paul’s.

Anne had her share of challenges throughout her life. Her strength and humility was unequalled. She survived four different cancers and a stroke that greatly hindered her mobility, without complaint.  To refer to her as superhuman would not be an exaggeration. Her courage is inspirational.

Anne’s compassion, warmth, sense of humor, and infectious smile will be forever missed.

She is survived by her beloved husband Paul, her children, Paul, Julie, Chris, Amy, Melissa and Tim and her grandchildren Caitlin, Missy, Tom, Kyle, Liam, Richie, Brianne, Dylan, Mary, and Haley. As well as many cousins, other relatives and friends.

Clara Ann Higginbottom, age 58 of Quincy, passed away on Thursday, May 16, 2019. Beloved mother of Monique Halliday and Sanovia Chavis-Higginbottom. Loving grandmother of De’Yonn Jackson, Isaiah Higginbottom, Samaya Adams, and Aiden Halliday.

Gina Laurent Bernadin of Dedham died on May 12, 2019 after a long illness.  Beloved wife of Ernst Bernadin of Dedham.  Loving mother of Joshua Bernadin of Dedham.  Sister of Laurette FanFan, Klebert Laurent, Fritz Laurent, Clother Laurent, Gladys Jolicoeur, Martelly Laurent, Mirelle Saint Louis, Nellie Dussap, Yvette Saint Eloi, Webert Laurent, Florence Lucien and Jude Denize. 

Gina was born in Port Au Prince, Haiti.  She was a Social worker for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts for many years.  Gina was a dedicated wife and mother who truly loved her family. 

Visitation will be Saturday May 18, 2019 9:30am-11:00 in Saint Matthew Church, 33 Stanton Street, Dorchester.  A  service in Saint Matthews Church at 11:00.  Repass will follow in St. Matthew Hall.

Susan (Stanley) M. McGillowey, 74, of Milton passed away peacefully on Monday, May 13, 2019.

Born in Boston, on September 26, 1944 to her beloved parents William C. and Molly M. (O’Grady) Stanley.

Loving mother of Sean P. McGillowey and his wife Kelly of Milton and Shannon McGillowey – Ortiz and her husband Luis of Taunton. Cherished grandmother of Jack, Hunter, Patrick, Leland and Molly. Sister of John Stanley and his wife Joanne of Milton, Janet Stevens and her husband Michael of Pocasset and the late William C. Stanley, III. Former wife of John P. James, J. Cloghessy of Dorchester died on May 10, 2019.  Beloved husband of Mary G. Cloghessy (Campbell) of Dorchester.  Loving Father of Joseph J. James was born in Tipperary, Ireland.  He immigrated to the United States as a teenager and later joined the United States Army.  James was a self-employed contractor; he was a talented carpenter.  He was proud of his Irish heritage and loved visiting Ireland.  He enjoyed music, especially “The Doors”, horseracing, reading the daily paper.  An avid sports fan; James loved his Boston sports teams, Patriots, Bruins and Red sox.  Most of all James cherished spending time with his family who were the cornerstone of his life.  He will be missed by all who had the pleasure to have known and loved him.
