Luisa Teixeira, a retired assembler for Joseph Pollak Company, died at her home in Dorchester, Sunday July 18, 2010. Born in Cape Verde, daughter of the late Maria L. Pina and Neves Pires. Beloved mother of Nuno Barros of Mattapan. Loving sister of Maria Pires, Fatima Pires, Euridice Leite, Maria A. DePina, Filomena Vicente and Francisco Moeda. She is also survived by one grandchild and several nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Saint Patrick’s Church, Roxbury, Wednesday July 21 at 10:00 AM. Rose W. Lyons

Rose W. Lyons, 102, of Dorchester, died at Caritas Carney Hospital on July 14, 2010.  Prior to her retirement, Rose worked as a Personnel Manager for the US Government at a US Army base in Boston. Beloved daughter of the late Patrick and Anne (Cauley) Lyons. Sister of the late Helen A. Lyons, Mary Connors, Joseph Lyons, Patricia Anne Lyons and Francis Lyons. Aunt of Dorothy L. Connors of Dorchester, Paul V. Lyons of Milton, Robert Lyons of Needham and the late Francis D. Lyons. Rose is survived by several grandnieces, grandnephews and one great-grandnephew. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Saint Ann Church, 251 Neponset Ave., Dorchester, MA 02122 on Saturday, July 17 at 10:30AM. Relatives and friends invited. Daniel Collins

Daniel Collins, a resident of Dorchester, formerly of Malin Head County Donegal, Ireland, died Monday July 12, 2010. Beloved husband of Marie P. (McDonagh) Collins. Loving father of Patricia Collins of Dorchester, Joan Collins of West Roxbury, Patrick Collins and his wife Christine Ramsdell of West Roxbury, Sean Collins of Rockland and Patti Fleming of Rockland. Brother of Rose Bradley of Birmingham, England and the late Marge, Edward, Margaret, William, Robert, Mary Bridget, Patricia and James. Cherished  grandfather of Aidan, Isabella and Parker Collins. Edna D. Cardillo

Edna D. (Clayton) Cardillo, a lifelong resident of Dorchester, died Sunday July 11, 2010, at home surrounded by her family.

Born in Newton, she was raised in Dorchester and graduated from Girls High School, Dorchester. Mrs. Cardillo was a librarian for the City of Boston for 32 years.

She was a graduate of Northeastern University and received her master of library science from Simmons College. She worked at the main branch of the Boston Public Library and the Adams Street Library. She retired in 1991.

Mrs. Cardillo was a member of Kit Clark and K-Club, both in Dorchester. She enjoyed quilting.

Devoted wife of the late Robert Cardillo, Beloved mother of Anita Danker and her husband Frederick of Framingham, Arthur Cardillo and his wife Mary of Cranford, New Jersey and Robert Cardillo and his wife Sonia of Dorchester. Loving grandmother of Kristin Reynolds and her husband John of Lowell, Joseph Danker of Mansfield, Arthur Cardillo Jr. and Amanda Cardillo of Cranford, New Jersey and great-grandmother of Justin Reynolds of Lowell.

Dorothy “Dot” Theresa Julian

Dorothy Theresa “Dot” (Mahoney) Julian, of Quincy, formerly of Dorchester Lower Mills, died Wednesday July 7, 2010, after a long illness. Mrs. Julian worked as a Traffic Supervisor for the Boston Police Department for 18 years. Lovingly referred to as an “exceptional mother” by her family, Dot loved life, her friends, music and dancing. Beloved wife of Albert A. Julian. Loving mother of Paul Julian of San Francisco, CA, Adrienne Johnson of Harwichport, Diane Schultz and Margaret “Maggie” Julian, both of Quincy. Mother-in-law of Joseph Johnson, Jr. and the late Pamela Julian. Grandmother of Courtney and Kyle Julian. Millicent Norris Hill

Millicent Norris Hill, the middle daughter of E. Albert and Hazel Baskerville Norris, was born on August 13, 1935 in Brooklyn, New York. She went to her reward with the Father in heaven Friday July 2, 2010. Millicent was raised in the neighborhood of Jamaica in the borough of Queens, New York. Graduating from high school at 16, she was both a scholar and an athlete (playing basketball and being selected Most Valuable Member of the Girls Varsity) while participating in numerous activities which enriched her high school and community, including being secretary of a school honor society, a member of the Student Council, a two year member of the yearbook staff, a member of the Leaders Club and teaching Sunday School at the Lemuel Haynes Congregational Church. Millicent received her Bachelor of Arts from Queens College in 1956 and her Masters in Social Work from Smith College in 1959. At Queens College, she became a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. After receiving her Master’s Degree, Millicent moved to the Boston area where she worked as a clinical social worker for the Veterans’ Administration Hospital in Bedford, Massachusetts. During that time she met Gerald “Gerry” Hill. They were married on February 6, 1960 and remained married until Gerry died on March 31, 1994. To their union, three children were born, David Anthony, Denise Millicent and Diedre Hazel Pauline. Millicent was a trailblazer. She was the first African-American woman to receive tenure at the Simmons College Graduate School of Social Work, where she taught from 1974 until 1985. In addition to her position at Simmons, Millicent taught at the graduate schools of Social Work at Boston College and Boston University and served as a part time faculty member at her graduate school Alma Mater, Smith College. Millicent’s life was spent in the pursuit of learning. In addition to her career and responsibilities at home, she was enrolled in a doctorate program at Boston University when she was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis and was unable to continue. After retiring from Simmons in 1985, Millicent continued a private practice in clinical social work until the late 1980s when she was no longer able to do so. While pursuing her career and raising three children, Millicent made time to give back to her community. Among her many contributions, she served as Church Clerk at the Ebenezer Baptist Church for a number of years during the 1970s. She was a charter member of the Rho Epsilon Omega chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, a member of the Newton Chapter of Jack and Jill of America, and a member of the Black Citizens of Newton (BCON). Millicent’s courageous battle with multiple sclerosis began with her diagnosis in 1981. Despite her illness, she maintained dignity, continued to read voraciously (she was particularly fond on Alfred Hitchcock murder mysteries), encouraged and inspired her children as each of them graduated from college and graduate school, and was a positive influence on many who came in contact with her at the Boston Home, her home from August 1993 until her death. Millicent was preceded in death and is now reunited with her parents, E. Albert and Hazel B. Norris, her sisters Eileen Carroll and Evelyne Payne, her husband Gerald Hill and her son-in-law Hugh Day. She leaves to cherish her memory and continue her legacy her son David Anthony Hill  and his wife Lynn, daughter Denise Millicent Day, daughter Deidre Hazel Pauline Hill Butler and her husband Alan, grandchildren Millicent Audrey Day, David Gerald Hill, Emmanuel Norris Robert Butler, Stephen Ingersoll Ellis Butler and Gabrielle Renee Hill, step-grandchildren Christopher Burch, Alan G. Butler, Jr., Harold Butler and Ashley Butler, a godson, Michael Daniel Price, many nieces and nephews and a host of other family and friends. The family will receive friends Saturday July 10 from 10 AM to 12 Noon with a Celebration of Life to follow at the Ebeneezer Baptist Church, 157 West Springfield Street, Boston. Linda E. (Dunnell) Mason

Linda E. (Dunnell) Mason, 64, of Milton and Gorham, New Hampshire, after a long illness, July 4, 2010. In addition to being a devoted wife and mother, Linda was a member of the Mother’s Club, Milton Jr. Women’s Club, Milton Firefighter’s Wives Club and Assistant Scout Master of St. Agatha Cub Scout Pack #5. Linda was the owner of Micro Business Service of Milton. Linda also enjoyed reading, cooking, canoeing and fishing. She would spend six months in Gorham NH and six months in Milton during the year. She loved to travel throughout the US and Canada. Linda is survived by her husband, Paul J. Mason Jr. and her son Joseph P. Mason, both of Milton. She is also survived by her brothers: James Dunnell of Milton, Norman Dunnell of Provincetown and Robert Dunnell of New Hampshire. Sister-in-law of Robert Mason of Milton. Also survived by several nieces and nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held in St. Agatha Church, Milton on Thursday, July 8 at 10:30 AM. Relatives and friends invited. Paula Burgess

Paula Burgess, 61, died unexpectedly while visiting close friends on Cape Cod – her favorite place. Paula is survived by her sister Michele Homicz and her husband Bruce, her brother Peter Burgess, her niece and godchild Megan Marshall, her nieces Renee Charbonneau and Karole Ferguson, her nephews Brian, Jason, Aaron, and Joshua Charbonneau, and her great nephew Nathan Charbonneau.
Born December 1, 1948 in Stillwater, NY, daughter of were James Harold and Rita Flynn Burgess. Paula is predeceased by her parents, her sister Karen Charbonneau and her sister’s husband Francis Charbonneau. Paula graduated from Catholic Central High School in Troy, NY, Maria College in Albany, NY, and SUNY Oswego. She earned her Master’s degree at SUNY Albany. Paula devoted her life to her career as a kindergarten teacher for 38 years at Stillwater Central School. She thoroughly enjoyed her pupils and experienced many happy and funny moments throughout the years. Her dedication and devotion to her students was evident to her family and friends by her endless hours of projects and papers and by her struggle to continue working during years of dialysis. Paula was a great example of determination to all knew her. She loved to travel with friends and family, enjoyed hiking and skiing and did not allow her disease to keep her from experiencing new adventures. We would like to give a very heartfelt, sincere thanks to her faithful friends who provided transportation to and from dialysis for nine years. We cannot express our admiration for such caring, devoted, selfless people. We would also like to provide a special thanks to the staff at the Rubin Center in Clifton Park and the Dialysis Center at Albany for all their care and attention to our sister and aunt. Memorial contributions may be made to the Polycystic Kidney Disease Foundation or to the Rubin Dialysis Center in Clifton Park in lieu of flowers. A memorial mass will be held at St Peter’s Parish in Stillwater on Saturday July 3, 2010 at 1:00 pm.

William Christo

William Christo, a retired Amtrak employee, died Wednesday June 30, 2010.

Mr. Christo retired from Amtrak after over 40 years of employment. He was an Army veteran of World War II. Mr. Christo was a past president of the Saint John the Baptist Albanian Orthodox Church and a member of the Albanian American War Veterans.

Beloved husband of Martha (Stephenson). Christo. Loving father of Mark Christo of Milton and John and his wife Monica Christo of Medfield. Loving grandfather of Carina and Gabriela Christo of Medfield. Brother of Anna, Lena and James of Boston.

Mary Louise (Hogan) Stanton

Mary Louise (Hogan) Stanton, of Hyde Park, formerly of Forest Hills, died at Highgate Manor in Dedham on June 28, 2010.

Born in Boston, Mary was a graduate of Boston’s High School for Practical Arts. She worked for the Submarine Signal company during World War II.

Mary married her husband, Joseph, in 1946 and became a homemaker. She was very involved with her children’s activities and she was also active in her community.

She served as the Hyde Park Neighborhood Coordinator for Girl Scouts and was a volunteer for the Parent Teacher Association in Hyde Park (grammar school through high school). In her later years, she was involved with Mil-Par Seniors and enjoyed bowling with the group.

Mary was also a member of the Hyde Park Thought Club, the Massachusetts Federation of Women’s Clubs, and the Hyde Park Historical Society.

Devoted wife of 64 years of Joseph G. Stanton. Loving mother of Thomas G. Stanton and his wife Margaret of Sandwich, Lorraine M. Murphy and her husband Alfred J., Jr., of Needham, Elizabeth “Bettie” Kilcoyne and her husband David of Dedham, William D. Stanton-Myers and his partner Steven A. Myers of Boston and the late Jean M. Rooney and her late husband Eugene H., Jr. Sister of the late Joseph, Thomas, Charles, Rev. William Hogan, Elizabeth Bugbee and Helen McEwan. Mary is survived by her sister-in-laws: Mildred Cawley of Dorchester and Mary Stanton of Plymouth, 12 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
