Willie D. “Chico” Davis, Jr. of Mattapan, December 27, 2010, beloved husband of Mary Daniel-Davis. Loving father of Sabrina Davis and Julian Davis BFD, both of Boston. Brother of Lloyd Davis of Virginia. Also survived by several nieces and nephews including his loving nieces Anita Davis and Denise Banks and a host of grandnieces and nephews. Reuben Mitchell

Reuben Mitchell, 76, a 56 year resident of Dorchester, died on December 26, 2010 after a lengthy illness.

Born in Arkansas, Reuben was a graduate of Langston High School in Hot Springs, Arkansas. He entered the US Air Force and received an honorable discharge after four years of service.

Reuben then became a meat cutter for North American Packing Co., and later joined the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Correctional Department. He retired from the Nashua St. Jail as Captain of Transportation.

Reuben was a member of the MW Hiram Grand Lodge, Masons, 3rd Degree.

Beloved husband of Mary F. (Green). Father of Renita M. Swann of Jacksonville, NC. Grandfather of Unique M and Brandy J. Swann. Great-grandfather of Karleigh J. Swann. Brother of the late Earl Mitchell.

A Masonic Funeral Service will be held in the Dolan Funeral Home, 1140 Washington St. DORCHESTER LOWER MILLS, Tuesday, Jan. 4 at 11:00AM. A visiting hour will be held one hour prior to the service, 10-11AM on Tuesday. Interment Knollwood Memorial Park, Canton.

John Matthew Cooke

John Matthew Cooke, 96, a longtime resident of Milton and a retired Operations Officer for U.S. Customs, died on December 26, 2010.

Born and raised in South Boston, Mr. Cooke spent the early years of his marriage in Dorchester then moved to Milton in 1943.

Mr. Cooke was an active parishioner at Saint Agatha’s Church where he was involved in the Holy Name Society and the Saint Vincent De Paul Society. He also bowled with his wife in Cunningham Park’s bowling league. He enjoyed golf, traveling, music and spending time with his family.

Beloved husband of the late Mary G. (Finnegan) Cooke for 57 years

Loving father of Mary A. Cooke of Dorchester, John M. Cooke, PhD and his wife Pat DuWors Cooke of Shrewsbury, formerly of Palmer, Anne M. Conlon and her husband Kevin of Norwell and the late Claire E. Dorsey. Brother of the late James, Peter and Patrick Cooke. Grandfather of Susan Burns, Laurie Woodworth, Paul and Scott Dorsey, Joe, David and John Conlon and Deb Stepanian. Also survived by 8 great-grandchildren, a son-in-law, Paul B. Dorsey of Canton and numerous nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Saint Agatha Church, Milton on Friday, Dec. 31 at 10:30AM. Visiting hours at the Dolan Funeral Home, 460 Granite Ave. MILTON, Thursday, 5-8PM. Interment in Milton Cemetery.

Elizabeth A. Walsh

Elizabeth Ann (Wallace) Walsh, a retired Boston Public School monitor, died at Marian Manor, Saturday, December 25, 2010. She was 75 years old. Born in Boston, she was a longtime resident of Dorchester. Mrs. Walsh was a school monitor at the Gilbert Stewart School and Charles Taylor School for over thirty years. She was a member of the Saint Gregory Church Sodality. Beloved wife of the late John L. Walsh. Loving mother of Maryann E Walsh Sanders of Kingston, Maureen E. Walsh of Dorchester, and the late Michael G. Walsh. Sister of the late Eleanor Histen, Dorothy Cherry and Joseph Wallace. Ruth V. Lannon

Ruth V. Lannon, a retired clerk with New England Telephone, died at Saint Patrick’s Manor, Framingham, Friday December 24, 2010. She was 91 years old. Born in Boston, she grew up in Mission Hill and lived in Newton and Quincy for several years. A longtime New England Telephone employee, she was member of the New England Telephone Pioneers and Adventurers and late member of the Catholic Daughters Court of Saint Elizabeth. She was the beloved daughter of the late Thomas M. and Anna (Sullivan) Lannon. Sister of Paul G. Lannon and his wife Ann of Sudbury, Ann T. Haley and her husband James of Harwichport, and the late Rev. Thomas M. Lannon SJ, Edna M. Woods and her husband James and James J. Lannon. Sister-in-law of Ruth Lannon. Also survived by several nephews and one niece. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Saint Agatha Church, Milton, Wednesday December 29 at 10:30 AM. Relatives and friends invited. Fidelio Santos Carvalho died at Caritas Carney Hospital, Dorchester, after a period of failing health,  Wednesday December 22, 2010. Beloved husband of Cecelia Santos Baptista Carvalho. Emily E. (Eastman) Mackin

Emily E. (Eastman) Mackin, of Dorchester, died at her home on December 23, 2010. Born and raised in New Hampshire, Mrs. Mackin served in the US Navy Veteran during WWII. Prior to her retirement, she worked as a Nurse in the Intensive Care Unit at Carney Hospital

 Beloved wife of the late John E. Mackin. Loving mother of Louise of Dorchester, John of Kingston, James of Lynnfield,  David of Dorchester, Joseph of Quincy, Frances Lawlor of Quincy, Joanne of Dorchester, Jane Mengesha of Malden, Marie Gardner of Quincy, Paul of Barrington, NH, Virginia O’Brien of Milton, Robert Mackin of Dorchester and Elizabeth Garvey of Quincy. Also survived by 41 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.  Sister of the late James Eastman.

Joseph F. Fidler Jr.

Joseph F. Fidler Jr., a retired trial attorney, died at Tufts Medical Center, Boston, Tuesday December 21, 2010. He was 82 years old.

Born in Boston, he was raised in Quincy and graduated from Quincy High School ’46, Holy Cross College ’50 and Harvard Law School ’56. Mr. Fidler served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict.

He was a trial attorney for Liberty Mutual Insurance Company for 34 years, retiring in 1990 as Assistant New England Division General Attorney. He was a former member of the American Bar Assn., Boston Bar Assn. and Mass. Bar Assn. He was a board member of the “Life After Liberty” retirees volunteer group and member of the Liberty Mutual Quarter Century Club.

A 50 year resident of Milton, Joe was an active member of St. Agatha Church where he was involved in the Pre-Cana program for 12 years and a Eucharistic Minister at Quincy Medical Center.

Mr. Fidler enjoyed playing tennis and was a former member of the Braintree, Quincy and Weymouth Tennis Clubs. He was also a former member of the Cunningham Men’s Bowling League in Milton. An avid biker, trips included New England, Canada, Florida and six bike tours of Europe. He travelled extensively in all of Europe, Israel and Turkey, enjoying London and 24 trips to Bermuda.

Beloved husband of Betty Fidler. Loving father of Jack Fidler and his wife Jo-Louise Allen of Newton, Mark and his wife Tobey Fidler of Waltham, Anne and her husband Jim Ancona of Boylston and Katherine and her husband Michael Dowd of Sharon. Grandfather of Thomas and Mark Ancona, Bailey, Leland and Ross Fidler, Daniel, Sam and Aviva Fidler and Matthew and Maggie Dowd. Brother of Patricia Chiavaroli of Milton and the late Mary Fidler.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Saint Agatha Church, Milton, Tuesday December 28 at 10:30 AM. Relatives and friends invited. Sofia (Kyranos) Aevazelis

Sofia (Kyranos) Aevazelis, 89, a resident of Quincy since 1980, died on Friday, December 17, 2010.  She was the wife of the late John Aevazelis

Born in Greece on August 23, 1921, she was the daughter of the late John and Maria (Tsismeli) Kyranos.

Mrs. Aevazelis immigrated to the United States in 1966 and was employed at the Green Shoe Company in Roxbury for many years.

She was longtime member of St. John’s Church in Boston and then St. Catherine Church in Quincy and Braintree.  Mrs. Aevazelis was a devoted member of Red Sox Nation.

Loving mother of Sandy Zalios and her husband Kostas of Milton and Demetrios Aevazelis and his wife Lefki of Taunton. Survived by brothers; Nicholas of Wollaston, Kostas of Milton, Christos of Lakeville, George of Raynham, Euripides of Greece ; sister Elizabeth Kastrounis of NJ.  Devoted grandmother of Katherine Wood and her husband Paul of Hanover, John Aevazelis of New Bedford, Sophia Smoley and her husband Joseph of Rye, NY, Cristina St. Pierre and her husband James of Berlin, MA and  Evan Zalios of Milton .Also survived by two great grandchildren, Kostaki and Karina Wood of Hanover and many nieces and nephews.
