Virginia L. (McLaughlin) Flaherty

Virginia L. (McLaughlin) Flaherty, of Kingston, formerly of Milton, died on November 4, 2011.

Born and raised in South Boston, Mrs. Flaherty graduated from South Boston High School in 1946. She and her husband were married at Saint Brigid Church in South Boston in 1953. They lived in Dorchester prior to their move to Milton in 1963.

Mrs. Flaherty was a decorative painter and was a member of H.S.E.A.D, The Historical Society of Early American Decorators (Old Colony Chapter). She displayed her artistic talents in painting and stenciling work inside the front foyer of Saint Agatha Church in Milton, where she also served as a Eucharistic Minister.

 Mrs. Flaherty also worked as a Sales Associate for ten years at Lechmere.  

She was the beloved wife of William J. Flaherty. Loving mother of Kathleen A. Flaherty of Milton, Kevin T. Flaherty of Milton, Maureen Savoie of Abington, Eileen Mullaney of Braintree, Mark T. Flaherty of Pleasanton, CA, Stephen W. Flaherty of Abington, Brian Flaherty of Braintree, Christopher P. Flaherty of Franklin and Sean M. Flaherty of Canton. Sister of Mary Sylvester of South Boston, Thomas F. McLaughlin of Delaware, Elizabeth Santry of Orleans and Louise Donahue of North Miami Beach, FL. Also survived by 14 grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild and several nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Saint Agatha Church, Milton on Wednesday, Nov. 9 at 10:30AM. Visiting hours at the Dolan Funeral Home, 460 Granite Ave. MILTON, Tuesday 3-8PM. Interment Milton Cemetery.

Phyllis C. (MacDonald) Dailey

Phyllis C. (MacDonald) Dailey, 88 of Weymouth, formerly of South Boston and Scituate, passed away after a long illness on November 4th, 2011 at the Harbor House in Hingham. Phyllis was the beloved wife of the late Edward V. (Duke) Dailey. Loving mother of Stephanie M. Dailey of Hull, Jane C. Wilson of FL, Edward V. Dailey Jr. of TX, Mary B. Dailey of Somerville, Lt. Col. Gerald M. Dailey of TX. Phyllis is survived by seven loving grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Sister of Fran McLaughlin, Ginny MacDonald, Jean Breen, and the late Helen Hartigan, Kay Mossbacker, and John MacDonald. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Saint Jerome’s Church, Weymouth, Tuesday, Nov. 8  at 9AM. Relatives and friends invited. Honora E. (O’Brien) Ostiguy

Honora  E. (O’Brien) Ostiguy, of Milton, formerly of South Boston, passed away peacefully November 3, 2011 surrounded by her family. Beloved wife of William A. Ostiguy. Born and educated  in Boston she was the daughter of the late James and Ruth (Marsh) O’Brien. She was a long-time valued employee The Boston Company.  A member of the Castle Island Association and the Simon of Cyrne Society. She was the devoted mother of Beverly Curran and her husband Mark of Nashua, NH, Linda Upton and her husband Bill of Northwood, NH, Elaine Woodgate and her husband Brad of Duxbury, MA and Angela Scannell and her husband Paul of Milton.  She was also the beloved  mother of the late James M. Ostiguy, MD and his late wife, Elaine.  Sister of the late James O’Brien, Ruth Joyce, Frances O’Brien, Phylis Ostiguy, Annabelle Brown and sister-in-law of the recently deceased Joseph L. Ostiguy; loving and proud grandmother of Sadie and Michael Buonamano; Allison and Mark Steven Curran and Alicia Buonamano; Peter, Steven and Nathan Ostiguy; Amanda, Nicholas and Jillian Woodgate; Caroline, William and Katherine Scannell; and great-grandmother of Riley and Michael. Also survived by many loving nieces and nephews and cherished friends. Dolly exemplified all the best qualities of being a wife, mother, grandmother and friend. Theresa C. (Pezzulo) McCarthy, of Dorchester November 1, 2011. Beloved wife of the late Daniel C. McCarthy Sr. Loving mother of Daniel C. McCarthy, John McCarthy and Debra McCarthy, all of New Hampshire, James McCarthy of California, Kathleen Nangle of Nevada, Maureen Poland of Lakeville, Kelley DeSouza of Dorchester and the late Christina McCarthy and Patricia Conroy. Sister of Mary Purcell of Braintree, Patrick Pezzulo of Quincy and the late James Pezzulo. Theresa is also survived by 18 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. Osse Belance

Osse Belance, a retired hotel kitchen aide, died at his home in Dorchester Saturday October 22, 2011. He was 76 years old. Husband of Erasia (Edward) Belance. Alomy Pierre Saintil

Alomy Pierre Saintil, a retired farmer, died at Holy Family Hospital in Methuen, Tuesday October 11, 2011. He was 99 years old. Born and raised in Haiti, he was a self-employed farmer. Mr. Saintil moved to the Boston area a few years ago. Husband of the late Metinette (Saint Fleur) Saintil. Loving father of Marthe Saintil. Tatiana Pernelle Joseph, of Dorchester, died Thursday October 20, 2011. Daughter of Parnell Joseph and the late Mireille (Felix) Joseph. A private family funeral service was held at Dolan Funeral Home, 1140 Washington Street, DORCHESTER LOWER MILLS, Friday October 28. Interment followed.

Rev. John P. Byrnes

Reverend John Patrick Byrnes, 95, a retired Priest for the Diocese of Trenton, New Jersey and the United States Navy died on October 26, 2011. He was born in Boston and graduated from South Boston High School and Villanova University. He entered Immaculate Conception Seminary in the Diocese of Trenton, New Jersey and was ordained to the priesthood on March 17, 1945. Initially, he was assigned to St. James Catholic Church in Red Bank, New Jersey and taught at Red Bank Catholic High School where he was also the Director of Athletics. He also coached baseball, basketball, and introduced football at the high school. Later, he was assigned to St. Raphael’s Church in White Horse, New Jersey and St. Peter’s in New Brunswick, New Jersey where he also served as Athletic Director at St. Peter’s High School.

In 1951, Father Byrnes entered the U.S. Navy and enjoyed a military career that spanned twenty years. He was stationed with the 3rd Marine Brigade. 3rd Marine Division Camp Pendleton, California and then transferred to the 7th Marine Regt., 1st Marine Division, FMF, Korea. He was wounded in action and received both the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star with the Combat “V”. Returning home, he was stationed at MCAS, Cherry Point, North Carolina before shipping out to Comflacts, Sasebo, Japan. After another stint at camp Pendleton, he then served aboard the USS Bon Homme Richard, CVA 31 in Vietnam. Back in the U.S. he was then stationed at the Marine Corps Supply Center in Barstow, California, the U.S. Naval Station, Midway Island, and with the 4th marine Brigade, FMF, Hawaii. Fr. Byrnes continued his service making the amphibious assault landing at Chulai, Vietnam and then became part of the 1st Marine Division FMF. Other assignments included his chaplaincy at Quonset Point Naval Air Station, followed by his service on the USS New Jersey, BB62 in Vietnam.

Fr. Byrnes retired from the military in 1971 when he was the chaplain at the Chelsea Naval Hospital. Continuing his life of service, Fr. Byrnes was a chaplain at the VA hospitals in Tampa, Florida, as well as Jamaica Plain and West Roxbury, MA.

Brother of the late Christine McNamara, George V. Byrnes, Paul J. Byrnes, Elizabeth Anne Early, he is survived by  his sisters Louise Sullivan, formerly of Melrose, Winifred Lynch of Quincy and Patricia Parent of Lexington.

The Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated on Friday, October 29 at 10:00 a.m. at Marian Manor in South Boston. In lieu of flowers, please make donations in Rev. Byrne’s memory to Marian Manor, 130 Dorchester St. South Boston, MA 02127.

Eleanor A. (Gornall) Lane

Eleanor A. (Gornall) Lane, 88, of Milton,  died at Milton Hospital after a brief illness on October 23, 2011. A homemaker, Mrs. Lane was the beloved wife of the late Arthur K. Lane. Loving mother of Debra Lane Shettlesworth of Rockland and Michael J. Lane of Milton. Cherished NaNa of Nicole and Lori Anne of Rockland.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Saint Agatha Church, Milton on Friday, October 28 at 10:30AM. Relatives and friends invited. Maria DePina-Andrade, an employee at Panera Bread, died at Home and Hospice of Rhode Isalnd, North Providence, Rhode Island, Sunday October 23, 2011. She was 46 years old. Mother of Lina DePina, Nicolas Andrade and Liliana Andrade. Maria is survived by her granddaughter Angelina and several brothers and sisters, nephews, nieces and cousins.
