Rev. Thomas J. Naughton

Naughton, Rev. ThomasRev. Thomas J. Naughton, a retired priest for the Archdiocese of Boston, died at Regina Cleri Residence, Boston, Sunday October 6, 2013.  Loving son of the late Thomas and Julia (Carroll) Naughton and brother of Carol A. Naughton of Milton and the late Paul Naughton. A graduate of Milton High School in 1952, he was ordained a Catholic Priest on February 2, 1961 by Bishop Jeremiah Minihane at Holy Name Church, West Roxbury.  H is first assignments were at Saint John Church, North Cambridge, MA and Saint Kevin’s Church in Uphams Corner, Dorchester. Fr. Naughton received a Master’s Degree in Education from North Carolina State University and from 1965 – 1967, he taught Theology and Medical Ethics at Emmanuel College. Fr. Naughton entered active duty in the United States  Army in September of 1970.  Fr. Naughton was a Bronze Star recipient and served in Korea, Vietnam, Alaska, Walter Reed Hospital in Washington, D.C, Fort Belvoir, Virginia, Carlyle Barracks, Pennsylvania and then three tours at Fort Bragg, NC with the special forces.  He retired from the U. S. Army a Lt. Colonel. Fr. Naughton returned  to Boston  in 1991 and was assigned to Beth Israel Hospital as chaplain for three years.  His next assignments were Immaculate Conception Church, Winchester, Saint Martha and Mary Church, Lakeville, then chaplain at New England Medical Center in 2009. He was a temporary administrator of St. Mary of the Angel’s Church, Roxbury and St. Elizabeth’s Parish, Milton. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Mary of the Hills Church, Saint Mary’s Road, Milton Saturday, October 12th at 11:00 AM, with Bishop Robert F. Hennessey, principal celebrant. Fr. Naughton will lie in state  at Saint Mary of the Hills Church, Friday, 4-7 PM.  Interment Milton Cemetery. Addie Desmond-Mosley

Desmond-Mosley, AddieAddie Desmond-Mosley, at the age of 66, departed this life, at her home surrounded by her husband and extended family, on the morning of October 5, 2013. Addie was born on June 17th, 1947, in Boston, Massachusetts. Addie is survived by her loving husband of 29 years, Irving Mosley. Addie survived her father James Boler, mother, Eva Warren Boler, and brother James Boler, Jr. Addie was the stepmother of three and the grand-stepmother of ten children. Addie was a longtime Security Officer at the University of Massachusetts, Boston and had recently retired. Addie had a remarkable voice and loved to sing for her family and friends. Addie also loved dogs and all kinds of animals. She had a penchant for collecting precious things. Elephants were her favorite things to collect. Funeral service Friday October 11, 2013 at Dolan Funeral Home, 1140 Washington Street, DORCHESTER LOWER MILLS. Viewing will be at 10 AM, followed by Service at 11AM, with interment following the service at Fairview Cemetery in Hyde Park.

William V. Drummey

Drummey, WilliamWilliam V. Drummey, age 72,  of Quincy, formerly of Milton, died at Quincy Medical Center, Wednesday October 2, 2013.  Born in Boston, Mr. Drummey was raised in Milton and attended Saint Agatha School. He graduated from Saint John’s Preparatory  School, Danvers and Boston College. A long time resident of Quincy, Mr. Drummey was an accountant for the Durgin Park Restaurant in Boston prior to his retirement. Father of William V. Drummey, Jr. and Debra L. Bayliss and her husband, Michael, all of Texas. Brother of the late John Drummey and Joseph Drummey.  Also survived by 4 grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Saint Agatha Church, Adams Street at Brook Road, Milton, Friday, October 11 at 10:30 AM. Joan M. Miller

Miller, JoanJoan M. (Sullivan) Miller, of Milton, an active member of St. Agatha Parish, died on Sunday, October 6 at St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Brighton. She was 75. Born in Boston and raised in the city’s Mission Hill neighborhood, Joan was a graduate of Mission High School. From Mission Hill, Joan moved to Brighton where she raised her family and then Belmont, Braintree and Bridgewater with family until moving to Milton in 2006. Joan’s move to Milton was a significant change for a woman whose life was so devoted to caring for her family.  For the first time, she was able to do more of the things she enjoyed. A faithful Catholic and avid sports fan, she found a home in the community of St. Agatha Parish and enjoyment in watching sports. At St. Agatha’s, she was active in the Legion of Mary, Eucharistic adoration and the traditional choir, which so rekindled an interest in music that Joan recently started taking piano lessons.  When it came to sports, she cheered most for her grandchildren at their games but still proudly followed her Red Sox and Patriots. Joan was the beloved wife of the Late John Miller, Jr., the devoted mother of Nancy Stuart and her husband Daniel of Braintree, Judith Campbell and her husband Gregory of Texas, David Miller, BPD and his wife Rosemary of Bridgewater, and Kathryn Cirino and her husband John of Charlton; the cherished “Grandma” and Nannie” to Brian, Stephen, Alexander, Jessica, David, Jr., Emily and Kathleen and the loving sister to Janet Chaput of Arlington and the late James J. Sullivan. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Saint Agatha Church, Milton on Friday, October 11 at 9:00 AM. Relatives and friends invited. Rose M. Casey

Rose M. Casey, a retired secretary, died at William B. Rice Eventide Home, Quincy, Monday October 7, 2013. Born in Boston, Rose was a graduate of Dorchester High School and Bentley College. She moved to Milton in 1954. Rose was a secretary, working for the United States Weather Bureau, NASA and retiring from Thompson Steel. Beloved daughter of the late Francis and Mary (Callahan) Casey. Sister of Alice F. Casey of Milton and the late Mary L. Casey. Cousin of Natalie Fultz of Milton and the late Louise LeGrice. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Saint Agatha Church, Adams Street at Brook Road, Milton, Thursday October 10 at 10:30 AM. Sr. Mary Jovita Flynn, mfic, of Newton, a beloved member of the Missionary Franciscan Sisters for 79 years, died at Saint Patrick’s Manor, Framingham, Monday October 7, 2013. Loving daughter of the late Declan and Mary (Lehane) Flynn, sister of the late Alice Flynn, aunt of Joan Dwyer of Ireland and cousin of James Flynn of Belmont. Also survived by her Missionary Franciscan sisters and many friends.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Mount Alvernia Convent Chapel, 790 Centre Street, Newton, MA 02458, Wednesday, October 9 at 10:00 AM. Dexter, Anne Wheeler of Milton and Falmouth October 3, 2013 passed away surrounded by her loving family. Devoted wife of the late Robert S. Dexter, Sr. Loving mother of Robert S. Dexter, Jr and his wife Amy and Laura Carew (Dexter) and her husband Bob all of Milton. Sister of Jean A. Wheeler of North Weymouth. Cherished Grandmother of Robbie, Ross, Ryan and Reid Dexter and Bobby, John, Alec and Megan Carew. Aunt to many nieces and nephews.  Anne graduated from U. N. H. with a B.S. in Physical Education. She was a P.E. teacher at Cambridge High and Latin and then a stay at home Mom for many years. Anne’s real joy was being a senior travel professional with Colpitts World Travel in Dedham which allowed her to travel just about everywhere (all the continents except Africa and Antarctica). She was a member of the Mayflower Society, Quincy Choral Society and former member of the Milton Hoosic Club. She will be sorely missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing and loving her. Cecelia M. McCarthy

McCarthy, Cecelia - websiteCecelia Margaret McCarthy (McLaughlin), entered eternal life on Tuesday, October 1, 2013 surrounded by her family at home.  Born in Donegal, Ireland, she was the daughter of the late Bridget and Hugh McLaughlin.

Cecelia was a graduate of the Carney Hospital School of Nursing and worked as Head Nurse in the operating room at Carney Hospital until the birth of her first child. Motherhood became her life and career. She continued her nursing education and her nursing license is still active to this day.    Her devotion and love of family was evident in her final weeks of sickness as shown by the love and care bestowed upon her by her children.

Cecelia loved Irish music and Irish Step Dancing and she herself took a few classes.   Her children and grandchildren continue to follow in her footsteps for the love of Irish Dance.  She enjoyed weekends away at the Irish Village on Cape Cod listening to the music of great Irish Bands, especially Deirdre Reilly and Andy Cooney.  She enjoyed dining out with her husband and family many nights, and her favorite seemed to be going to  Cathay Center “Susies” in Weymouth every Sunday for Chinese food.

Cecelia was a woman of strong Catholic faith; she attended daily Mass when the children were young and always had an extra pair of rosary beads with her that she would offer to family and strangers in hospital rooms.  She also contributed to several Catholic organizations and supported Pine Street Inn and St. Francis House.

She is survived by her husband of 54 years, William, her son, William, of Boston, Kevin of Quincy, Sheila of Braintree, Maureen McCarthy-Dunn of Pembroke, Neil of Braintree, and Mary Gardiner of Quincy.  Cecelia was the grandmother of Michael, Kaitlin, Jamie, Julia, Niall, Lauren, Ciara, Bridget, and Braden.

Visiting hours will be held Sunday, October 6 from 3:00 – 7:00 p.m.  A funeral Mass will be held on Monday, October 7 at 10:30- a.m. at St. Agatha’s Church, Adams Street, Milton, MA.
