Simon G. Shargabian

Simon G. Shargabian, 89, of Spring Hill, Florida and Milton, served in WWII aboard the USS WASP under Admiral Bill Halsey. He also served in the Korean War and Vietnam Conflict. Simon’s military career covered over 60 years. Beloved brother of Arna Power of Milton, brother-in-law of Loretta Shargabian (wife of late brother Alfred) and Adrienne Shargabian (wife of late brother James). Simon is also survived by nephews, Francis Reardon, James Reardon and Gerard Reardon and nieces Debra Crimmins and her husband Steve and Diane Inglis and her husband Richard. Great uncle to Christina Hondromihalis and her husband Kevin, Alyssa Ruggieri and her husband Steven and Vanessa Hondromihalis. Great great uncle to the apples of his eyes and the lights of his life Sofia Ruggieri and Ava McSherry. Funeral service at Dolan Funeral Home, 460 Granite Avenue, EAST MILTON, Wednesday December 23 at 12 noon. Visiting hour from 11 -12 PM. Relatives and friends invited. Interment Milton Cemetery.

Eric D. Durham, 27, suddenly, of Fall River beloved son of LaWanda Coleman and Eric Lofton. Loving grandson of Alice Coleman  and Ernestine Lofton. Muriel Collier

Muriel I. (Sorensen)  Collier of Milton formerly of Dorchester, Entered peacefully into eternal rest on Dec. 15, 2015. Muriel married Joseph in 1945 and raised their six children in Dorchester. She was a homemaker by trade with cooking and baking for her family a daily priority. Prior to her illness Muriel enjoyed many trips throughout New England with her family but loved North Conway, NH the most. With a spirited sense of humor she loved the long car rides – always as a passenger – to many vacations and trips to Foxwoods. In the afternoon you would always find her watching her soaps and Judge Judy. She loved her grandchildren most of all and they were her main focus in life. As a grandmother and great grandmother, she was hands on,
hands down, sit on the floor and play with dolls or cars with whoever was in her audience. She was a strong hardworking sole whose time came to rest and be reunited with her beloved husband, the late Joseph W. Collier. Devoted mother of Sandra Frost of Holbrook, Nancy O’Hara of Brockton, Joseph W. Collier, Jr. of Dorchester, Richard Collier of Westport, Debra Waterhouse of Quincy and Jean Scarborough of Milton.  Sister of Marjorie Petillo of Revere, Alma Casey of Roslindale and Leonard Sorensen of

Sr. Mary Laura McDermott mfic, of Newton, a beloved member of the Missionary Franciscan Sisters of the Immaculate Conception for 65 years, died at Saint Patrick’s Manor, Framingham, Wednesday December 9, 2015. She was the beloved daughter of the late Roger and Nora (Waldron) McDermott. Sister was preceded in death by her sisters Mary Duffy and Vera Brooke and her brother Thomas McDermott. She is survived by her brother Dermot McDermott and many nieces and nephews and her Missionary Franciscan Sisters. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in the Chapel at Mount Alvernia Convent, 790 Centre Street, Newton, Monday December 14 at 10:00 AM. Visiting hours at the Chapel, Sunday 2-4 PM. Higgins Jr. and his wife Susan of Milton, Maureen O’Brien and her husband Frank of Canton, Patricia Cunningham and her partner Dennis Murray of Quincy, Susan Hagerty and her husband James of Norfolk and Diane Higgins and her partner Peter Relick of Milton. Paul was predeceased by many siblings and is survived by 12 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and his sisters-in-law Joan Higgins of Quincy and Margaret Kelley of Milton and his special niece Anne Wright of Braintree. Walter Goltz

Golts, Walter

Walter Goltz Of Milton MA and formerly of West Springfield MA ,age 94, passed away quietly at home, in the presence of family on Monday December 7, 2015. The cause of death was melanoma. Fittingly, the day of his death was Pearl Harbor Day. Walter was a proud WWII Veteran who served aboard an aircraft carrier for three years in both the Atlantic and Pacific theaters. This was certainly a defining event in his life and he was always willing to share a story or two about the War. Walter was predeceased by his wife, Margaret (LeBlanc) Goltz. Walter is survived by his four sons and their families; James Goltz & Eliane Herring of Ukiah CA, Gary & Kathy Goltz of Medfield MA, Bob Goltz of Buffalo NY and Tom & Joan Goltz of Milton MA. Walter also leaves 13 grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Walter resided in Milton since 2003 after living in West Springfield for over 50 years. He was a happy summertime resident of the Dunes beach in Weekapaug Rhode Island for most of his postwar life and enjoyed the sand, surf and rejuvenating effects of spending a weekend there with a good book. He was a graduate of Classical High School in Springfield and attended American International College. He spent much of his professional career as a purchasing agent for various companies.

Walter was very proud that he recently participated in the World War II Honor Flight, dedicated to those who served in WWII, Korean and Vietnam conflicts. Recently, Walter flew to Washington DC with his son Tom and enjoyed a grand tour of the Memorials, the city and various tributes set to honor veterans.

Per Walters’ request, services will be private.
