Ronald William Schneider, Sr. of Milton, Massachusetts passed away, surrounded by his family, on July 19, 2016 at the age of 86.  He was born on November 8, 1929 to George T. Schneider and Amelia Margaret (Howe) Schneider in Queens, New York.

Raised in New York, he worked alongside his parents in their ice cream parlor until they moved to Cornwall, Connecticut where they operated  the Housatoinc Cabins along the Housatonic River.  After graduating from the University of Connecticut, he served in the Army during the Korean War but was fortunate to have been stationed in France.  A lover of jazz music, and a good drummer, he often reminisced about having seen Ella Fitzgerald perform live in Paris.  After the service, he continued his education graduating from programs at Quinnipiac College in Hamden, Connecticut, Williams College School of Banking and the Boston University Bible Studies School.

Ron began his banking career in New Haven, Connecticut.  Then as the New England Real Estate Appraiser for Equitable Life Assurance Company he was transferred to Boston, Massachusetts, ultimately settling in Milton in 1966.  He resumed his banking career when he met Nate Green, then the President of Newton-Waltham Bank & Trust. After twenty-six years with the bank, which became BayBank, he retired as an Executive Vice President.  Throughout the years, he made every effort to be home for dinner with his family.

He loved canoeing, sailing, hiking, camping, good beer, good food and, having grown up during the golden age of motoring, cars.  And he loved his family most of all.  He played with his children, taking them on long bike rides, playing baseball or doing various woodworking projects.  The time he spent with his children was often individualized, with each child having a chance to spend time alone with their father.  A day in Boston, a hike in the White Mountains, a short canoe trip across the lake in the early morning to get the paper and a birthday dinner at The Red Coach Grille in Braintree were just some of the ways that Ron spent special time with his children.  His close presence in their lives told them he loved them, and he set an example for them of how to be a good and decent person living a life of integrity.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Patricia Mary (Sullivan) of Milton, his four children, Gregory George of Plympton, Massachusetts and his wife Laura (Johnson), Carl Richard of Milton, Massachusetts, Ronald William, Jr. of Wells, Maine and his wife Cheryl Turner, Mary Patricia of Weymouth, Massachusetts and her partner Mary DiNatale.  He is also survived by his four grandchildren, Kayla, Megan, Amanda and Nicole.

Mary (Nunnari) in her 101st year a longtime resident of Dorchester passed away peacefully in her sleep Friday July 22, 2016. Mary loved life, hobbies and spending time with her family. She will be missed and loved always by her family and friends.

Mary was the beloved wife of the late Patrick Robilotto. Loving mother of Antoinette (Annette) Spring and husband Frederick J. of Hingham and the late Patricia Christopher and Jeanne Robilotto. Sister of Sally Gore and the late Frances Morgante, Lillian Freeman, Anthony, Leo and Josephine Nunnari. Also survived by 8 great grandchildren Stephen, Cori, Matthew and Devin DeMelis, Alia, Giana, Dylan and Aidan Spring. Margaret A. “Gar” Murphy, of Dorchester, age 87, entered into eternal rest July 22, 2016.

Loving daughter of the late Martin J. and Mary (Maloney) Murphy. Beloved sister of the late Mary, Catherine and Martin Murphy, Elizabeth MacKenzie and Anne Morrison. Fun and favorite aunt of Andy, Peggy, Dan and Don MacKenzie, Pat Whitehouse, Mike, Chuck, Rick  and Joe Morrison, Annemarie Thompson, Carol Morrison-Deutsch and Suzanne McDevitt. Cherished grandaunt of 16 and great-grandaunt of 2. Dear cousin of Dorothy Murphy Ulwick and devoted friend of Gus Pepe.

Margaret graduated from Girls Latin School and won a full scholarship to Manhattanville College. While working at the Massachusetts Nursing Assn. for 25 years as the lobbyist at the State House, Margaret drafted and proposed many successful pieces of legislation to further the nursing profession. Margaret returned to school in her fifties to pursue her law degree at New England School of Law where she graduated as Class Valedictorian in 1986.

Dr. Robert (Bob) Diener died at home in Milton after a courageous battle with ALS (Lou Gehrig’s disease). He was 85. Born in Zurich, Switzerland, he was the son of the late Max and Erica Diener. He grew up on the family’s dairy farm in Ringoes, NJ, and was an active member of the Mt Airy 4H Club. When his father sold the farm in the early 1940s, the family moved to a smaller farm on Reaville Rd in Flemington. There he became enamored with horses, a love that he cherished for the rest of his life.

A graduate of Flemington High School in 1949, Bob was senior class president and served as sports editor for the Yearbook. He graduated from Cornell University with a BS in animal husbandry, and was recognized as a high-scoring member (and captain in his junior year) of the Cornell polo team.

Bob served his country in the United States Army Medical Corps from 1953 to 1955 during the Korean conflict as a medical laboratory technologist. He married Deborah Smith, his college sweetheart, while in the service. After being honorably discharged from the army, they moved to East Lansing, Michigan, where he worked in the local hospital and then applied to the veterinary school. He achieved his DVM with honors from Michigan State University in 1960 and finished a Masters degree in pathology the following year, while employed as an instructor in the Department of Surgery and Medicine.

The appeal of medical research lured Bob back to NJ, where he became a clinical researcher in the Animal Health Division of CIBA Pharmaceuticals for two years, before he was made Assistant Director of Toxicology and Pathology in the Medical Research Division. In succeeding years he became Associate, and then Director of the Tox/Path subdivision, and when CIBA merged with Geigy he became Executive Director of Safety Evaluation for the merged corporation. He remained with CIBA-Geigy for 32 years, and when he retired in 1993 he became a Consultant in Pharmaceutical Research and Toxicology.

True to his farm background, Bob loved animals, especially horses and dogs and the outdoors. He was a rated polo player for over 30 years and played for Chukker Valley in Gilbertsville, Pa and later Burnt Mills Polo in Bedminster, while living in rural Chester, NJ. He was also an avid skier in his youth and while living in retirement in Whitehouse Station.

He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Deborah in 1962, but remarried and is survived by his divorced second wife Claire (nee Choborda). He is also survived by his son, Dr. Eric Diener and daughter, Dr. Diane D’Souza, both living in Massachusetts, and by his daughter, Patricia Fisher in Long Valley, NJ and son, Glenn Diener in Crofton, MD. In addition there are six grandchildren—Noel, Tara, Mira, Christopher, Sarah, and Kaitlyn—who live in various states, Canada, and India.

Memorial donations in his name and in support of care for animals and our Earth may either be made to Michigan State University, College of Veterinary Medicine, 784 Wilson Rd, East Lansing, MI 48824 or the Environmental Defense Fund, 1875 Connecticut Ave NW, Washington, DC 20009. A memorial service will be held on Saturday July 23rd at Church of Our Saviour, 453 Adams St., Milton.

Rose M. (Randazzo) Virgona, of Milton, July 19, 2016.

Born and raised in Milton, she was a lifelong resident. Mrs. Virgona worked at the family business, Randazzo Fruit Market, East Milton Square,  until her retirement in 1958. She enjoyed spending time in Boca Raton, Florida. Rose was an active participant at Saint Agatha Church, Milton and she was the family caretaker.

Mary Louisa (Harris) Osborne of Dorchester was born to Charles Piper and Henrietta Skerritt on September 14^th, 1937 and was raised   on   the   island of Montserrat in the West Indies.  She departed this life on July 12, 2016 surrounded by her loving family after a long battle with Alzheimer’s Disease.

When Mary was eighteen, she moved to England where she worked in a factory.  A few years later she married her husband John whom she had known since they were children in Montserrat. They lived happily in England for several years before migrating to the United States in 1966.  Mary was a hardworking woman and worked at Children’s Hospital for 38 years as a dietary aide before she retired in 2003. She loved interacting with the children and their families and was known for her tireless efforts to ensure that every child received respectful care and attention.  She was an avid seamstress and a proud graduate of the School of Fashion Design on Newbury Street in Boston.  She designed and crafted clothing for her children, husband, friends and relatives.  Mary’s other favorite past times were bargain shopping and gardening.  Many of the flowers she planted years ago still bloom every year and grow beautifully in her garden.  Mary loved her family and spending time with them was one of the most important aspects of her life.  Known for imparting tips to friends and family about the importance of saving money and not holding her tongue, her presence will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

Mary leaves to treasure her loving memory, her devoted husband John, her children Leroy,  (Stephanie), Leslie, (Angela), Brenda, Bernice, (Steven), her siblings Geraldine, Janet, Jule, Rose, May, Will, Ivan and the late James of Boston, late James of England and Kathleen. She also leaves grandchildren Leslie Jr, Elijah, Leroy Jr (Todd), Shalonge, Ashlei, Michael, Wesley, Taavis, Kristina and the late Quinten, 20 great-grandchildren, many cousins, nieces, nephews, friends and cherished pets her to carry on her legacy.

A special thank you to all the family and friends who have given so much support and encouragement throughout the years.

Keith R. Maher, 61, a self-employed carpenter, passed away at Tufts Medical Center, Boston, July 16, 2016.

Born and raised in Milton, Keith was a graduate of Archbishop Williams High School, where he was the captain of the golf team and ran for the track team. He was owner of Maher Carpentry. Keith was a member of the Quincy Yacht Club,  longtime coach and sponsor of Quincy Youth Softball, enjoyed playing golf and was an avid Patriots and NASCAR fan.

Beloved husband of Lydia W. (Colley) Maher. Loving father of Kristin W. Maher of Weymouth. Son of Francis N. and the late Geraldine A. (Cochran) Maher of Quincy. Brother of Garrett C. and his wife Patricia Maher of South Weymouth and Annmarie and her husband Ian Schmidt of Holliston. Keith is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Martell, June T. (Griffin) of Milton died July 18, 2016 with her family by her side.  Beloved mother of Kathy Sinesi and her husband Dr.  Mathew Sinesi of Chesapeake Virginia, Kerie  Musumeci and her husband Dr. Ross Musumeci of Needham and the late Gregory Martell.  Loving sister of Jerie McGrath-Cerqua of Quincy and the late Jean Marie Fanara, John  W. Griffin and L.  Joyce Smith.  Cherished grandmother of Erin Martell of Connecticut,  John Martell of Easton, Andrew and Allison Sinesi both of Virginia and Ryan Musumeci of Needham.  June was a dear life long friend of Gladys Teachman and Jean Booth.  Also lovingly survived by  several nieces and nephews who brought much joy to her life.

June was born in Boston.  She settled in Milton over 50 years ago where she raised her family and made many friends.  She worked for New England Telephone Company later Verizon for 38 years before retiring as Manager  in 1994.  June  enjoyed  traveling, she  traveled to  many parts of the World most of her trips were with her friend Jean.  She was a member of the New England Bell Pioneers Club, Milton Historical Society and a book club which she shared with a group of her longtime girlfriends.  Most of all June loved her family, her children and grandchildren were the cornerstone of her life.  She will be missed but will be remembered in  the  positive way in which she touched so many lives.
