Lawrence L. Cherry

Lawrence Leo Cherry, 68 of Georgia, a retired member of the United States Armed Forces died after a long battle with cancer surrounded by his family.  

Larry was employed by Tufts Medical Center for several years. Additionally he served in the United States  Army prior to joining the United States Air Forces where he spent the remainder of his military career.

He is survived by his beloved children Michael and his fiancé Sarah, James and his wife Jerrellyn, Jonathan and his wife Ericka and Jennifer and her husband Thomas Lee.  Larry devoted his recent years to his beautiful grandchildren – Ariana, Jazion, Jalen Cherry, Desiree and Dacia Brown and Thomas Lee, III.

Born in Roxbury, to the late Michael Frances Cherry and Margaret (Souther) Cherry, Larry was one of 19 children. He is survived by his brothers Thomas Cherry of Haverhill, Joseph Cherry of New Mexico and his sisters Marge Simmons of Illinois and Mary  Egan of Milton along with wonderful brother and sister in laws.

A  Mass of Christian  Burial will be celebrated in St. Elizabeth’s Church on Friday, Dec. 28 at 10 o’clock.

Angela J. Panchamsingh

Mrs. Angela J. Panchamsingh, of Milton, MA, lovingly known as “Mama”, passed away on December 23, 2012. She was the beloved wife of the late Mr. Joseph Panchamsingh. Angela is survived by her son, Joseph Panchamsingh, her daughter, Julie A. Panchamsingh-Barakat, and daughter-in-law, Cynthia Panchamsingh of Milton. Angela was the beloved grandmother of Angela Silva of Canton, Joseph Panchamsingh and Michelle Contreras of Dorchester, Selena Taliento of Roslindale, Diana Quinchia of Hyde Park, & Amelia Ali, Jonathan Panchamsingh, and Saad Ali of Milton. Mama was also the proud Great-Grandmother of seven great grandchildren: Ariana, Jose, Daniel, Aiden, Juliana, Samuel, and Ahlayna. She is also survived by her brother, Norman Ramjattansingh of Trinidad & Tobago, WI. Visiting Hours will be held at Dolan Funeral Home, 460 Granite Avenue, EAST MILTON from 9-10:30 am, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary of the Hills Church in Milton, on Thursday, December 27th, at 11 o’clock. Interment to be held at Cedar Grove Cemetery, Dorchester.

Howard G. Nutting, Jr.

Nutting – of Foxboro, formerly of Milton, Dec. 19, Howard G. Nutting, Jr., age 88,  beloved husband of the late Ruth A. (Michaud) Nutting.  Devoted father of William R. Nutting and his wife Lynne of Norwood, Kenneth A. Nutting and his wife Mary of Foxboro, Bruce S. Nutting and his wife Michele of Marshfield, Jeffrey H. Nutting and his wife Renee of Milton and Deborah R. Godfrey and her husband Albert of N. Attleboro. Brother of the late William N. Nutting. Patrick J. “Jody” King

Patrick J. “Jody” King of West Roxbury,  formerly of Dorchester and South Boston,December 12, 2012.  Beloved husband of Margaret (Fitzgibbons) King.  Loving father of Peggy Tomasini and her husband Ray of W. Roxbury, Matthew F. King and his wife Robin of W. Roxbury, Patrick J. King , Jr. of Quincy,  and Joseph F. King and his wife Jamie of Canton.  Devoted “Papa” of Ann Marie Tomasini, Joseph Tomasini, Matthew D.  King, Joseph P.  King, Joseph L.  King and Patrick J.  King. Uncle of many loving nieces and nephews.   Brother of the late; Mary King, Jean Carey, Matthew F. King, Cecilia Howard and Helen Gallery. Jody graduated from Boston English High School in 1940. He was captain of the city championship football team. He earned all-scholastic honors and a scholarship to play football at Boston College. His career at BC was interrupted by WWII. He saw combat as a B-17 gunner with the US Army Air Corps. His plane was shot down over Holland and he survived 14 months as a P.O.W. in Germany. After the war, he returned to BC and received his degree, Class of 1947. Jody returned to English High School where he had a long and distinguished career as a teacher and coach. He served many years as a coach for the football team. He also served as head basketball coach. He led English High to the Tech Tournament Basketball Championship and Massachusetts Class A State Championship Title in 1968. Mary D. Harris

Mary D. Harris died Friday December 7, from injuries sustained after being struck by a car. She was 78.

Mary was born is Boston and grew up in Walnut Park. She attended the Boston school system. She lived in Boston through the war years, than moved to Milton.  She went to work after graduating from High School  insurance industry.  Specializing in boiler and machinery insurance underwriting, she worked for Liberty Mutual, John Hancock (Before and after the tower was built) ending her career with Arbella Insurance Company

Mary had a huge love of animals and was a proud member of her church, she thought of her fellow parishioners as her brothers and sisters. Mary supported many veterans causes, especially those for disabled veterans. She had a special place in her heart for those who served their country.

Mary was the beloved mother of Richard Harris of Milton. Daughter of the late Nicholas & Abbie (Parnell) Waters.  Cousin of Faye Violet Levy and Norman Levy of Nova Scotia. Memorial Service in the First Congregational Church of Milton, 495 Canton Ave., MILTON Sat. Barbara (Barrett) DeSutter

Barbara DeSutter (Barrett ), 71, a longtime Milton and Randolph resident, died Sunday evening December 9, 2012, at the family home in Jamaica Plain. Raised in Braintree, she was a daughter of the late Edward and Regina(Gross) Barrett. Barbara attended Braintree High School(’57) where she excelled at basketball earning four Varsity Letters.  She also enjoyed being Captain of the Braintree Drum and Bugle Corps, competing in the Eastern Massachusetts Circuit. After high school, Barbara went to work in New York City where she met and married her beloved Clark. By 1973 they had moved to Milton with their two sons. Active members of St. Agatha’s Church, theyboth taught CCD.  They were a part of a wonderful neighborhood where life long friendships were made.  Sadly she was widowed in 1983 when Clark succumbed to a long fight with cancer. Professionally, Barbara enjoyed a proud career as an Executive Assistant in the financial industry retiring from RBC Wealth Management in 2006. She is survived by her two sons Keith DeSutter and his wife Jennifer (Brown) of Jamaica Plain, Tim DeSutter of Andover; her brothers and sisters Edward Barrett of Texas, Charles Barrett of Maryland, Priscilla (Barrett) Rawson of Texas and Anita (Barrett) Peirce of Milton; and grandchildren, Sarah Hallstrom of Florida and Brittany Hallstrom of Andover, Jake Colbert of Jamaica Plain. Shanna A. Smith

Shanna A. Smith (33), of Boston, born March 17, 1979, died December 06, 2012, Beloved daughter of Robert and Barbara Smith of Boston. Shanna attended Mission Grammar School, St. Clare High School, and Bryman’s Institute, and Bunker Hill Community College where she attained her nursing degree. Shanna worked at Boston Medical School and  Tufts Medical Center as a nurse. Shanna enjoyed modeling,  beauty pageants, acting, music, and singing. Loving sister of Denise Dietrich of Boston, Robert Smith Jr. of Malden, Rosalind Smith of Cambridge, and Jessica Smith of Roxbury. Survived by many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, and friends. Funeral service Friday, December 14 at Dolan Funeral Home, 1140 Washington Street, DORCHESTER LOWER MILLS at 11:00 AM. Shanna’s family will begin to greet relatives and friends at 10:30 AM. John Ferrante Jr, MD

John Ferrante Jr, MD, passed away on December 6, 2012.  Dr. Ferrante, son of the late John and Ida (Ballerini) Ferrante, was born in 1930, raised in East Boston and then lived in Dedham, East Sandwich and Sanibel Island, Florida for the last forty plus years.  He was the beloved husband of fifty-nine years to Irene (Addesa) Ferrante, loving father of Dr. John Ferrante III and his wife Lori of Milton and Rajani (Rene) Ferrante of Myrtle Beach, SC, and cherished grandfather of Ariana, Chiara, and John IV, of Milton.  A graduate of English High School in 1948, he earned first his B.S. in Pharmaceutical Chemistry from New England College of Pharmacy, and then his M.S. from the University of Wisconsin. While working on his Ph.D., he changed his academic pursuit to medicine, and graduated from Boston University School of Medicine in 1962.  He completed his Internship and Residency at Carney Hospital in Dorchester where he stayed for almost forty years to practice his chosen profession.  He shared his expertise with Marian Manor, as well as many other skilled nursing and medical facilities in the area.  A man of mild demeanor and determined optimism, Dr. Ferrante was recognized among his peers for his outstanding talent in medical diagnosis and patient care.  He showed a genuine concern and the utmost respect for everyone he encountered.  Serving his community as a member of Carney Medical Group, and a staff member of the Milton Hospital, as well as a solo practitioner, he stood as a beacon of professionalism in the medical field, and as a physician totally devoted to those entrusted to his care.  For his outstanding achievements and excellence, he received the Seton Award from the Daughters of Charity, the founders of Carney Hospital. He was also a Knight of Don Orione, a charitable organization supporting the Don Orione Home and Shrine.  His life will be celebrated with a Mass of Christian Burial at  Saint Agatha Church, 432 Adams Street, Milton on Tuesday, December 11 at 10:30 AM.  Relatives and friends invited.  Visitation is at the Dolan Funeral Home, 460 Granite Avenue, EAST MILTON SQUARE on Monday, December 10 from 4:00 to 8:00 PM.  Interment will be private.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Dr. Ferrante to any of the following: Marina Bay Skilled Nursing Facility, 2 Seaport Drive, Quincy, MA,02171; Don Orione Home, 111 Orient Avenue, East Boston, MA 02128; or Marian Manor Skilled Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, 130 Dorchester Street, South Boston, MA  02127.
