Mary (O’Malley) (Baby Na Coille) of Dorchester passed away on May 13, 2013. Born in Muiceanach, County, Galway, Ireland. Devoted Wife of the late John Burke of County Mayo, Ireland. Beloved mother of John Burke and his wife Christina of Weymouth, Mary and her husband Alan Haggan, Ann and her husband Ray Blakeslee all of Braintree. Proud grandmother “Mamo” of Caitlin, Michael, Melissa and Sean. Loving sister of Michael O’Malley of County Galway, Ireland and the late Patrick O’ Malley of Randolph. Also survived by many loving nieces, nephews and dear friends. A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Mark’s Church, 1725 Dorchester Avenue, Dorchester on Friday, May 17 at 10am. William D. Bronski

William Bronski, 77, formerly of Dorchester died peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family after a lengthy and courageous battle with a terminal illness.  William was a retired Boston Latin teacher, his love of travel and adventure enabled him to teach in China, he had a grand sense of humor and was a great storyteller, also an avid reader who gladly shared his books with all.  William was also a Navy Veteran and a 1956 graduate of Boston College.  Loving father of Kenan and his wife Kristin, Jared and his wife Sue, Nicole Shamlian and her husband Doug and Matthew and his wife Erin.  He is also survived by his siblings Al Bronske, Florence Carr, six cherished grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by his siblings Richard Bronske, Isabel Kennedy, Emily Shannon and Robert Bronski.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Saint Ann’s Church, 243 Neponset Ave., Dorchester on Thursday at 10 A.M.  Relatives and friends invited.  Visiting hours at Dolan Funeral Home, 1140 Washington Street, Dorchester, Lower Mills, on Wednesday from 4-8 P.M.  Interment Private.  In lieu of flowers a donation in William’s name may be made to Dana Farber Cancer Institute, Office of Patient & Family Assistance, 10 Brookline Place, 6th Floor, Brookline, MA 02445.

Hugh D. Gardner Jr.

Gardner, HughA funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, May 18, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. in St. Elizabeth’s Church, Milton for Hugh D. Gardner, Jr. He passed away Saturday May 11, 2013. Hugh was born in Watertown, attended Waltham schools and Boston University. He had been a Milton resident since 1951. He had been a partner in the confectionary brokerage firm of Heyman, O’Gara and Gardner Associates. He was a past President of the Boston Confectionary Salesmen’s Club, a member of the National Candy Wholesalers Association, New England Confectionary Club and National Confectionary Salesmen’s Club of America. In 1970 he was honored by the National Candy Wholesaler’s Association at its Annual Convention in Washington and was designated a “Candy Ambassador”. In 1985 he was inducted in the Confectionary Industry “Hall of Fame” in Hershey, PA in recognition of his long and distinguished career in the industry. He was a long time member of the Milton Hoosic Club, the Town Club of Milton and the Neighborhood Club of Quincy. He was active in his community, Pine Tree Brook and the Milton Senior Center. He most recently lived at Allerton House in Quincy. He was a World War II veteran, having served in Europe and Africa with the Army Air Force. He leaves his daughter Jean Gardner of Villanova, PA and two loving granddaughters Lauren and Allison Sottile, both of Manhattan. He was the beloved husband of the late Dorothy Murray Gardner and the father of the late Stephen Gardner, brother of the late Thomas W. Gardner, Alfred J. Gardner and Marcia Gardner. Donations in his memory may be made to the Milton Hospital Development Fund, 100 Highland Street, Milton, MA 02186. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Saint Elizabeth Church, Reedsdale Road at Randolph Avenue, Milton, Saturday May 18 at 10:00 AM. Relatives and friends invited. Delaney of Weymouth, Michael Stretch of Stoughton, Kathleen Stretch of Abington, Patricia Stretch of Boston, Patrick J. Stretch of Dorchester and the late Edward P. Alyce Julia (Baltrom)  Talutis, 87, a long time resident of Milton, died in Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital-Milton after a brief illness, Thursday May 9, 2013. Born in Cambridge, the daughter of the late Anthony and Anna Baltrom ,  Mrs. Talutis was raised in Dorchester and graduated from Dorchester High School For Girls. She was a member of the Milton Women’s Club and Women’s Republican Club. The wife of the late Bronislaw “Ben” A. Talutis  she is  survived by her son, Stephen Talutis and his wife Diane of Milton, a daughter Christine Marholin of Boston, three grandchildren, Laura Marholin Garcia, Stepahine Talutis and Christopher Talutis. Jeremiah W. Hurley, 82, of Dorchester May 9, 2013. John Eastman Barbour Jr.

Barbour, John websiteJohn Eastman Barbour Jr., age 56, passed away suddenly on Friday May 3, 2013. John was born in Boston, MA on August 18, 1956.

John graduated Brookline High School in 1975 and later received a Bachelor’s Degree from Wentworth Institute of Technology in 1978 with a concentration in Architecture. After attending Wentworth, he continued his education at Boston Architectural College as well as pursuing a master degree at MIT. John’s first job as an architect was with Stull and Lee where he worked for approximately 8 years. Upon leaving, John became actively involved in his community partnering in a local Soul Food business, Dudley Soul Food, as well as Project R.I.G.H.T, and Quincy-Geneva Housing Corporation, John was the Project RIGHT, Inc.’s Board President and led the Intervale St./Normandy St. Residents Association. John was instrumental in the Lilla Frederick Pilot Middle School Building Design process, monitored the school’s construction hiring compliance with the Boston Residents Jobs Policy, and ensured that the quality of the construction of the school building met appropriate standards, participated in the submission of the Frederick’s pilot school application and was on its Board of Directors. Through his work and dedication John was well respected among his peers. John also served as a mentor for several young people with the passion and commitment to helping others throughout his life.

When John was not servicing his community he enjoyed talking on his CB ham radio, playing tennis and basketball with friends. John was an active member of St. John Missionary Baptist Church since 2011.

John was the second of six children. His parents, Marilyn and John Eastman Barbour Sr., survive him, his sister Laura Dunkley and her two children Marilyn and Michael Jr., his sister Ellen Evans her husband Charles Evans their son Zachary Evans, his sister Shirley Barbour and her companion Rachael Berry and her children Christopher and Taylor Rogers, his brothers Steven Barbour his wife Cynthia, and their three children Steven Jr., Justin, and Ashley, his brother Charles Barbour, longtime companion/common law wife Regina Randolph, their children Aaron Barbour his wife Auburnee, their three children Marquis, Aaron and Alijah; his youngest son Andre Barbour; and a host of nieces and nephews as well as cousins, and friends.

Funeral Service in St. John Missionary Baptist Church, 230 Warren Ave., Roxbury, Saturday, May 11,  at 11 o’ clock.  Visitation at the church prior to the service from 10 – 11 am. Interment Mt Hope Cemetery, Boston.

 

Patricia Samodelov

Samodelov, PatriciaPatricia Samodelov passed away on May 4,2013 at Milton Health Care Nursing and Rehabilitation Facility, Brush Hill Rd., Milton, MA. She had been a resident there for the past two years due to declining health. Born Patricia Coghlan she was a resident of Milton during her childhood . She subsequently resided in Quincy and Hanover. A lifelong Boston Public School teacher, she retired in 1994 to travel and paint. She is the widow of Feodor Samodelov. She is survived by her sons Leonid F. Samodelov of Cleveland, OH, Patrick F. Samodelov of Wollaston and daughter Maria F. Donaghue of Quincy. Sister of Geraldine Lynch of Norwood, Helen Kiddy of Milton and Mary Reed of Hilton Head and the late Virginia Coghlan and Edward M. Coghlan Jr. Also survived by seven grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. She was predeceased by her son James. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, May 11 at 9 a.m. in St. Agathas Chuch, Milton. Internment Hanover Cemetery. Devoted brother of  Kim Moran of Holyoke, Erin (Moran) Rogers & her husband Scott  and John Moran and his wife Allison all of Norwood.
