Apostle Farris

Johnny James Farris was born on November 16, 1944 in Vicksburg, MS to the late Simon Bell and the late Ruby Farris. He was raised and educated in the Vicksburg school system and graduated from Temple High School in the early 1960’s.

Johnny Farris was a loving husband, father and pastor. He was the Apostle and founder of Greater Life Baptist Church for 28 years. His love for the people was his greatest attribute and he will be greatly missed.

On Monday, June 23, 2014, Apostle John Farris was called home to be with the Lord. He leaves behind to carry on his legac, his loving wife of 46 years, First Lady Prophetess Joyce Farris. Children, Antonio Farris and Lady Recha Ephraim Farris and her husband Apostle Frederick K Ephraim. Grandchildren: Jonshea Daniel Farris, Shaqunda Alexandria Coleman Farris, and Shemuel Fre-Jon Farris Ephraim.

The wake and funeral service will take place on Tuesday, July 1, 2014 at Anointed Fire Deliverance Tabernacle located at 777 Washington Street in Dorchester, MA. The Wake is at 9 am and the Funeral starts at 10am.

Interment will take place at Knollwood Cemetery located at 319 High Street in Canton, MA’

Repast will take place at 17 Hale Street, Hyde Park immediately following interment.

Astley Carl Smith of Mattapan, beloved husband of Jasmine died peacefully on June 17 surrounded by family and friends.  Born in Manchester, Jamaica October 4, 1927; beloved father of Raymond, Winsome, Cuthbert, Jackie, Carol; seven grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren, numerous relatives and friends.

John Kevin Kennedy

 John Kevin Kennedy died peacefully at home on Sunday, June 22 surrounded by his devoted family.  He was the selfless and loving husband of Geraldine (Martin) Kennedy to whom he was married for 57 years.  Born and raised in Dorchester, he lived in Boston for nearly his entire life.  He and his wife lived in West Roxbury for 47 years where, together, they raised ten children.   Kevin, as he was known to family and friends, graduated from English High School in 1948, earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Boston College in 1952, and a Master’s degree in chemistry from Tufts University in 1953.  Drafted into the Army during the Korean War, Kevin served two years at a military laboratory in Maryland.  For 33 years he then worked for the United States Air Force as a civilian Research Chemist in the Cambridge Research Laboratories at Hanscom Force Air Base.  During that time he acquired 7 patents for research he conducted and published numerous articles in scientific journals. During his last five years there he served as the Branch Chief for the Solid State Sciences Laboratories.  Upon his retirement in 1987, he was awarded the “Goody Two Shoes” Award in recognition of his commitment to always “doing the job right” and on time and to the best of his ability.  Kevin spent the next 17 years working for John M. Kennedy & Company.  This was the family painting contracting business begun by his father in the 1930’s, then owned by his brother, Maurice, and in which he had worked part-time since he was a child.  In 2004, he finally “really” retired to enjoy leisure time with his wife, children, and grandchildren.  Summers on the Cape made retirement all that more enjoyable.  Throughout his life Kevin was recognized for his integrity, reliability, and industriousness.  He was greatly loved and admired by his children as he danced through life together with Gerry, his teenage sweetheart.

Kevin was the devoted father of John K. Kennedy, Jr. and his wife Peggy of Ossining, NY; Kathleen K. Collins and her husband Mark of West Roxbury; Rev. William M. Kennedy of Boston; Deirdre I. Kennedy of Dorchester; the late Kyran E. Kennedy and his wife Kathleen of Virginia; Neil P. Kennedy of Medway; Maura K. Messinger and her husband Charles of Canton; Christopher R. Kennedy and his wife Donna of Lynn; Kara K. DiSandro and her husband Robert of Providence, RI; and Patricia E. Kennedy of Canton.

He was the brother of Helen Wildman and her husband Gilbert of CA; the late Thomas L. Kennedy and his late wife Margaret of Duxbury; the late Maurice Kennedy and his wife Mary of Marshfield; and Mary Ellen Carey and her husband James of Southington, CT.

Kevin was the loving grandfather to 18 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.  He is also survived by many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Funeral will be held from the Gormley Funeral Home, 2055 Centre St., West Roxbury on  Thursday, June 26, 2014 followed by a Funeral Mass at St. Theresa of Avila Church, West Roxbury on Friday at 10:00 AM. Visiting Hours Thursday from 2-4 and 6-8 PM. Interment will take place at Milton Cemetery, Milton. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of  Kevin may be made to the Kyran E. Haralambos “Harry” I. Kallianiotis

Haralambos “Harry” I. Kallianiotis, 83 of Milton passed away on June 22, 2014.  He is survived by his devoted wife Eleni Kallianiotis, his loving children Susan Bounas and her husband Andrew of Milton and John Kallianiotis of New York.  Harry also leaves his two grandchildren Arielle Bounas of New York and Andrew H.S. Bounas of Milton.  A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, June 25 at 10 A.M. at Saint John the Baptist Orthodox Church, 15 Union Park Street in the South End, Boston.  Relatives and friends invited.  Visiting hours will be held in the Dolan Funeral Home, 460 Granite Avenue, EAST MILTON, on Tuesday from 4-8 P.M. In lieu of flowers a donation in Harry’s name may be made to Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital – Milton Development Office, 199 Reedsdale Road, Milton, MA 02186.

Elva Proctor

Elva (Sawyer) Proctor died Sept. 23, after a brief illness. She was 97.  Born in Boston she lived in Dorchester until the age of 4 when her family moved to Milton.

Elva was a graduate of Milton High School Class of 1933 and Mass General Nursing School , Class of 1937.  Her nursing career led her to become Director of Nursing Services at the Boston Home, in Dorchester.

She was a 60 year member of the First Congregational Church of Milton and a member of its Diaconate. She was a member of the Canton, Quincy, Braintree, Weymouth and Milton Art Associations. She worked in water colors. She served a board member of the Milton Council on aging and was an member of the VNA Advisory Committee.

Elva was the beloved wife  of the late Gordon W. Proctor.  Devoted mother of Richard W. Proctor and his wife Donna of Weymouth  and Jane O. Proctor of Medford.  Sister of Phyllis M. Sawyer of Milton and the late G. Graham Sawyer. A Celebration of her Life will be held in the First Congregational Church, 495 Canton Ave., Milton, Sat. June 28  at 2 o’clock.  Interment Private.  If desired contributions in her memory may be sent to the First Congregational Church.  Arrangements by the Dolan & Chapman Funeral Home of Milton.

Veronica M. Hurley

Veronica M. ( Leighton) Hurley of Milton, died Saturday, June 21.

Born in Boston, Veronica was  a longtime resident of Dorchester and Milton. Veronica passed away after eight years of residence at the Marina Bay Skilled Nursing and Rehab facility. Her family is grateful for the quality of care that she received while there. Veronica was married to William J. Hurley for thirty two loving years until his death in 1974. She will be greatly missed by her adoring family.

Veronica was the devoted mother of Susan M. Farago of Quincy ,  William J. Hurley, Jr. and his wife  Mary of Milton,  Mary V. O’Neil and her husband Tom of Quincy, Paul G. Hurley and  his wife Elaine of Milton and Martha Sweeney and her husband Ken of Milton. Also survived by  8 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated  in St. Agatha’s Church, MILTON , Tues, June 24 at 9 o’clock. Visiting Hours in the Dolan Funeral Home 460 Granite Ave., EAST MILTON SQUARE, Mon., 4 – 7pm. Interment St. Mary’s Cemetery, Canton.

Mary McDade

Mary McDade of Watertown peacefully passed away after a long illness surrounded by her loving family on June 19, 2014.  Mary was known as a joyous, creative and curious person.  She is survived by her loving daughter Roxanna McDade of Eugene, OR, her mother Carolyn McDade of Portland, OR and her father James L. McDade and his wife Sarah Newcomb of Brookline.  Mary also leaves her sisters Kathryn Schreiner and her husband George of Los Altos, CA and Ann Gomes and her husband Joe of Wareham, her aunt Laura and her husband Bill Hale of Houston, TX and many loving cousins, nieces and nephews.  Mary was predeceased by her grandparents Laura and Ira McGehee, Opal and Loye McDade and  by her dear friend Bobby Himebaugh.   Funeral services are private.  For further correspondence with Mary’s family please address all letters or cards to:  Mary McDade, c/o Dolan Funeral Home, 460 Granite Avenue, Milton, MA 02186.

Jean D. Grandoit of Hyde Park passed away on June 11, 2014.  He is survived by his loving wife Ena Grandoit and sons Alex and Ray Grandoit.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be held in Saint Angela Church, 1548 Blue Hill Avenue in Mattapan on Saturday June 21st at 10 A.M.  Visiting hours will be held in the Dolan Funeral Home, 1140 Washington Street, DORCHESTER LOWER MILLS, on Friday night from 6-9 P.M.

Dorothy Lee Dunston

“A precious one from us is gone, A voice is still,

A place is vacant in our hearts, That can never be filled.”

          Dorothy Lee Dunston, daughter of the late John and Rosa Russell Dunston was born June 11, 1934 in Henderson, NC.   She slipped away quietly to be with the Lord 0n June 13, 2014.

After the death of her mother when she was around three years of age, she resided with her aunt and uncle, Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Russell in Manson, NC.  She received Christ at an early age and joined Burchette Chapel United Christian Church.  She later moved her membership to The Refuge Church of Our Lord Jesus Christ, where she received the message to be  baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ.  She remained a faithful member until she moved to Randolph, MA ten years ago.

She will be dearly missed.  She leaves to cherish her memory, her mother, Amy Russell of Randolph, MA, one son, Otis Dunston and his wife Loretta of Stoughton, MA,  seven sisters, Ida McAffee of Dorchester, MA,  Lucy Russell of Randolph, MA,  Annie Ablorh of Milton, MA,  Bernice Watkins of Largo, MD, Barbara Williams of Randolph, MA,  Vivian Corbett of Quincy, MA, Brenda Foster of Henderson, NC; two brothers,  Melvin Russell of Roxbury, MA,  William Russell, of Randolph, MA.   She will also be greatly missed by a host of other relatives, church family and friends.

We will miss her smile, but her legacy of love will continue through the many lives she has touched.  We know, that God never makes a mistake.  We have that blessed hope that we will soon be caught up together with her in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, June 19th at 11:00 AM at Dolan Funeral Home, 1140 Washington Street, Dorchester – Lower Mills.  Interment Cedar Grove Cemetery.
