Leonard Johnson

Leonard Johnson  was born on July 7, 1934 in Boston, Massachusetts to the late Everton C. Johnson and Eugenie H. (Morris) Johnson. He departed this life on Tuesday, August 25, 2020.

Leonard was educated in the Cambridge Public school system.  He was inducted into the U.S Army in 1954 and completed his military obligation in 1962. He worked at Court Square Press in South Boston where he operated a printing press for 30 years. He continued his work at Digitas for 25 years until his retirement In 2018.

Leonard had two sons Leonard Tracy and Charles Michael Johnson during his first marriage with Judy Robinson. He later married Janice Brown and from that union his daughter Cynthia was born. He left Cambridge in 1973 and moved to Mattapan, MA where he lived for the remainder of his life.

Leonard was a good and loyal friend to all, a father figure to many. He was loved by his co-workers, his peers, all who came in contact with him. He enjoyed being with family and friends and listening to jazz.

He is presided in death his siblings, Elaine Dodson, Curtis Thompson, Olga Johnson, Norma Booker, Everton Johnson. He leaves to mourn his children Leonard Tracy and wife Carla (Monterio), Charles Michael and wife Yvonne Johnson  and Cynthia Johnson, his brother’s Owen Johnson and Stanley Johnson and wife Vivian(Thompson), his grandchildren Nathaniel,Tristian, Cayden, Cayla and Mekhi and Michael nieces, nephew’s, great nieces, great nephews and additional family and friends.

Frances Stanley

Frances Stanley of Dorchester passed away on August 26, 2020 she was 79 years old. She was a loving mother to Paulette Hiddo of Dorchester, Neil Clarke of Stoughton and Wayne Smith of Dorchester. Cherished grandmother of 12 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. Frances is also lovingly survived by many friends and extended family.

Frances was born and raised in Jamaica and was very proud of her Jamaican heritage. She was a child care provider for many years serving many families with her kind and nurturing manor. She was a hard working, sassy woman who loved to shop, cook and spend time with her family.

Visitation on Saturday September 2, 2020 from 10am-11am in the Dolan Funeral Home, 1140 Washington Street, Dorchester Lower Mills. Due to Covid-19 restrictions Service and interment are private.

Carline Jean-Louis

Carline Jean-Louis, 45, of Hyde Park, passed away on Sunday, August 16, 2020.

Beloved daughter of Marie Marthe Jean-Louis and the late Seymour Jean-Louis. Loving mother of Norman Coxon and Kiara Menalus. Cherished sister of Fadia, Colette, and Frantz Jean-Louis.

Florica (Stanescu) Popa

Florica (Stanescu) Popa died peacefully at her home in Milton, surrounded by family, Monday August 24, 2020.

She was a believer who will forever remain in our memory and hearts. She has supported the church since its founding, encouraging everyone she met with a smile and a good word. 

Mrs Florica Popa participated with great energy and dedication in the activities and events of our church, encouraging and inviting anyone she met at the Romanian church of Saint Parascheva.

She was a lively, courageous, hardworking lady, with a love for family and church, a model of life that inspired everyone.

Private family funeral services and interment will take place at Forest Hills Cemetery, Boston.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Florica’s memory can be made to the Church of St. Parascheva, (www.saintparascheva.org) the church with which her soul will appear to the Savior Christ.

Evelyn R. Davis, of Dorchester, August 18, 2020.

Beloved mother of Kenneth Davis of Dorchester. She is also survived by 12 Brothers and Sisters.

Richard C. McCole

Richard C. McCole, beloved son, brother, grandson and uncle, passed away on August 19, 2020.

Ricky is survived by his parents, Richard and Mary McCole, his sisters Michelle Long and Haley Byron, his grandmother Nancy Love, his brother-in-law Matt Byron, his niece Addisyn Long and his nephews John and James Byron. He is predeceased by his grandparents Manuel and Constance Cachopa, and his brother-in-law, Michael Long. Ricky is also survived by many uncles, aunts and cousins. 

Ricky grew up in Easton, MA where he was a dedicated and talented athlete at Oliver Ames High School. His many friends remember him as loyal and big-hearted. After high school, Ricky was awarded a scholarship and attended Merrimack College.

Ricky was an avid sports fan, spending many evenings yelling at the TV with his father. Also a voracious reader, Ricky was always up for discussing history, culture and the human condition. Perhaps what we loved most about him was his quick wit, sense of humor and especially his pure heart. 

The family is grateful for all offers of condolences and asks that all donations be made in Ricky’s name to Family Restored in lieu of flowers.

In light of the COVID pandemic all services will be private. At the appropriate time the family will hold a memorial service where all will be welcome. 

Syama P. Ganguly, M.D.

Syama P. Ganguly, M.D. died peacefully on August 16, 2020 at the Seasons Hospice Facility in Milton, Massachusetts, at the age of 83. 

Known affectionately to his friends and colleagues as Dr. Sam, he was born on February 3, 1937 in Chandannagore, India to the late Sudhangshu and Santi Ganguly (née Chatterjee). He graduated from Asutosh College in Calcutta, India in 1954 with a degree in Intermediate Science and then obtained his medical degree from the R.G. Kar Medical College, also in Calcutta, in 1962. After graduation, he came to the United States to practice medicine, interning at the Griffin Hospital in Derby, Connecticut and Columbian (now New York) Presbyterian Hospital in New York City before completing his surgical residency and fellowship at Carney Hospital in Dorchester (Boston).  Dr. Sam maintained hospital affiliations at Carney Hospital, Milton Hospital, Pondville State Cancer Hospital and Quincy City Hospital during his career, but his main surgical practice and hospital affiliation was at South Shore Hospital in Weymouth where he practiced for over 45 years.  It was at Carney Hospital where he met his wife of 53 years, Sybil Powden Ganguly, who recently predeceased him this past May. They made their home in Milton, Massachusetts, and enjoyed many happy years there before moving to Marshfield in 2016.

Dr. Sam is survived by his sons Eric and his wife Amy of Essex Junction, Vermont, and Jeffrey and his wife Jacquelyn of Norwell, Massachusetts, and by his sister Runu Chakravarty and her husband Pronab of Bidhannagar, India. He was the beloved uncle of Heather Gnewuch and her husband Kevin Roth of Redding, Connecticut, Amy Lilley of Marlborough, Massachusetts, and Debangshu Ganguly and his wife Somdutta of Middleborough, Massachusetts; cherished grandfather of Samuel, Anna, and Nathan; great-uncle of Ruby; and had many fond cousins in India.  Dr. Sam loved to garden, bird watch, fish, watch the Bruins and spend time with his boys and their families.  He loved to travel in New England and spent many wonderful summers visiting Cape Cod, Vermont and Maine.  Most of all, he loved being a doctor and practicing medicine.

Dr. Sam is preceded in death by his wife Sybil, his parents, and by his younger brother Swappan Ganguly.

The family gratefully acknowledges Visiting Angels of Marshfield for the kind and compassionate care they provided for Dr. Sam over the past few years as well as Seasons Hospice in Milton, Massachusetts.

Due to the on-going coronavirus pandemic, a private service will be held at the Dolan Funeral Home in Milton.

Djovany Pierre

Djovany Pierre, 21, of Roxbury, was found Friday August 14, 2020 after a sudden and tragic accident.

Djovany was an honest, hard-working and very loving young man and father.  He would always put a smile on your face and cheer you up if you were down. He is a true legend to family and friends.  Those who knew Djovany, even just a little, lost a shining light in their lives.

He will be missed by his beautiful daughter Janelle, loving parents Mirlene Villarcon-Dorsainville and Rubens Pierre and cherished sisters Ashley Pierre and Merlinda Villarcon, and many aunts, uncles, cousins and great friends.

Visiting hours will be Tuesday, August 25, 2020 from 8:30-10:30 AM at Dolan Funeral Home, 1140 Washington Street, DORCHESTER LOWER MILLS.  Funeral Service and Burial will be private.

Francis X. Fitzpatrick

Francis X. Fitzpatrick, died at his home in Weymouth, Wednesday August 12, 2020.

Beloved husband of Ann (Menconi) Fitzpatrick. Loving father of Claire Pratt and her husband Thomas of Sandwich, Maryanne Gillis and her husband Paul of Marion and Lynda Clapp and her husband Erik of Cumberland, ME. Grandfather of Thomas, Michael and Sean Pratt, Ryan, Evan and Kyle Gillis and Henry and Grace Clapp. Brother of Harrison Fitzpatrick, Rev. Thomas Fitzpatrick, S.J., Joseph Fitzpatrick, Kathleen Smith and Maryanne Mazzeo.

Born in Boston, Fran was a graduate of Cathedral High School and proudly served in the United States Coast Guard. He was an owner of Fitzpatrick Brothers Auto Body in Dorchester, the oldest family-owned and operated auto body repair shop in the United States.

Francis X, FX, Franny, Frank, Fran, Fitta, Mr. Fitz.  He went by many names, but the most beloved name was Pup. He was larger than life, and the life of every party! He made everyone feel like family. His quick wit and boisterous laugh made everyone laugh with him. Their summer beach house was his favorite place to spend time with family and watch the boats go by. He will be dearly missed by many.

Funeral and interment in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Dorchester will be private.  A memorial service to celebrate Fran’s life will be announced at a later date.

Mary E. (Shinnick) Murphy

Mary E. (Shinnick) Murphy, 96, of Milton, died Tuesday August 18, 2020 with her loving family by her side.

Beloved wife of the late Warren F. Murphy. Loving mother of Diane Murphy of Stoughton and Jean and her husband Steven Fernandez of Weymouth. Devoted Grandma to Ashley Fernandez. Sister of the late Elizabeth Meyer.
