Rita McKinnon Gillespie

Rita T. (Laffan) McKinnon Gillespie of Dorchester, formerly of South Boston, went home peacefully to God on October 28, at the age of 93.
Rita was a graduate of South Boston High School Class of 1943. Rita worked for 30 years as a secretary in the Boston Public Schools.
Beloved wife to her first love, the late Francis T. McKinnon. Lucky to have found love again with the late James Gillespie.
Devoted mother of Jane Cavaleri of Dorchester, Francis McKinnon and his wife Doris of Weymouth and the late Paul McKinnon, Judith Finn and her husband Paul.
Adored Nana of Kristen Finn and Jessica McNally and her husband Steve all of Duxbury. Kaitlyn Cavaleri and Lauren Cavaleri both of Dorchester, Paul-Michael McKinnon and Thomas Fenton both of Weymouth. Dear sister of the late Ann McCabe-Scott, Helen Callahan, Daniel Laffan, Mary McIntyre and Geraldine O’Donovan.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St Ann’s Church, Neponset, Monday, November 4, at 10 o’clock. Visitation 9-10 am at the church. Interment Blue Hill Cemetery, Braintree.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Castle Island Association, P.O. Box 342, South Boston, MA 02127, which Rita was a long time member of.

Dear Jane, Francis and Judith, So sorry for your loss. Your Mom was such a joy-filled woman of faith. It was a pleasure to have known her. I am sorry that I cannot be with you at the funeral but I will offer Mass for Rita. God bless Fr. Tom Walsh

Dearest Rita, Heaven will welcome you with open arms. Thank you for all the delight you have given this world, with your family, at parties with ‘The Gang’, at your workplace in schools and in Dorchester. I am grateful for the loving care you gave to our father Jim, for the friendship you had with our mother Madlyn, and for the joy you gave to our lives. God Bless and Keep you in His loving arms.
