Margaret E. (Conley) Roche

Roche, Margaret E. (Conley), age 91, of Cohasset, formerly of Milton and Dorchester died peacefully on Wednesday, October 11, 2018 at Sunrise of Cohasset.

Margaret was born and raised in Dorchester.  She was a graduate of the former Dorchester High School for Girls and the former Boston State Teacher’s College with a degree in Music.  Margaret received her Master’s in Education from Boston State Teacher’s College and later returned to Boston University for classes beyond her master’s degree.  Margaret was an elementary school teacher for the Boston Public Schools until she became a school psychologist in the 1960s.  She had over forty years of service in a number of Boston Public Schools.  In 1974, Margaret took a one-year sabbatical from the Boston Public Schools and attended Boston College to further her course studies in psychology.  Margaret loved to learn and loved to teach.

Margaret lived in Milton for over 50 years where she was an active member of Saint Elizabeth’s Parish and later was a member of Saint Mary’s in Hull.  Margaret was very proud of her Catholic faith.  As a young girl, Margaret was a member of the Saint Mark’s Girl Scouts and for a number of years still maintained friendships with her fellow scouts.  Margaret was an accomplished sewer, cook and baker and was noted for her famous baked alaska pies, which a few times went on fire but that did not stop Margaret from watching Julia Child.  Later in life, Margaret took up sailing and skiing.  There were many mishaps on the high seas with Margaret and a few falls on the ski slopes.  Margaret has especially enjoyed times skiing with her grandchildren and trips on the family sailboat, Agapé, having spirited and often philosophical conversations with her children, her children’s friends and her friends.  Margaret would always be ready to laugh or would send a quip your way; most, but not all, have been enjoyed.  She loved singing and was blessed with many wonderful long-time friends.

Beloved wife of the late John J. Roche, Jr., mother of John J. Roche, III and his wife Mary (Kelley) Roche of Hingham and Mary Roche of Hull.  Loving grandmother of Kelley (Roche) Ellis and her husband Ben of Hingham, John J. Roche IV of Boston, Christopher F. Roche and his fiancé, Erica Rey of San Francisco and Brian F. Roche of Hingham.  Margaret was also the great grandmother of Charlotte Ellis of Hingham.  One of four siblings, Margaret was pre-deceased by James Conley, William Conley and Marie Holtzman.  She is also survived by many nieces and nephews and her long-time friends Eleanor Murphy and Sr. Bette Cavelli, SJM.
