Marjorie Coyne

Coyne, Marjorie for WEBSITE ONLYMarjorie Coyne was born August 7, 1927 in South Boston to John and Therese (McInerney) Walsh.  She was the oldest of 4 children.  Marge graduated from South Boston High School in 1944 and went to work for General Electric Supply.  In 1948 she went to work for New England Telephone.  In 1948 she met John ‘Jack’ Coyne at a dance in Cambridge.  They married in 1950 after a courtship of many major league baseball games.  She’d root for Joe Dimaggio and the Yankees and he’d root for the Red Sox.  (She came over from the dark side many years later, to become a fervent Sox fan.)

Together Marge and Jack raised 6 children primarily in Hingham and Pompton Plains, NJ while Jack worked for 43 years in the Bell System.  In retirement Marge and Jack lived in Harrison, Maine and Florida, moving permanently to Fort Pierce in 2011.

In the past in addition to her excellent cooking and baking skills, Marge braided rugs, a skill she learned from her stepfather, John Goodine, and which she passed on to her daughters-in-law, among others.

Marge was the beloved wife of John F. (Jack) Coyne.  Devoted mother of John Jr. and his wife Diane of Canton; David Coyne and his wife Dorothy; Michael Coyne and his wife Joanne, all of  NJ; Marjorie (Penny) Quackenbush and her husband Kevin of Middleboro; and Dennis Coyne and his wife Chae of ME; and the late Peter Coyne.  Cherished grandmother of Meghan, Kasey, Jaime, Elizabeth and Michael Coyne; Tara Speer; Katie Gordon; and Josh Quackenbush.  Sister of Justine Veno, and late brothers John ‘Jack’ Goodine and Daniel Goodine.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Gregory’s Church, DORCHESTER, Tues. Jan. 17, at 10 o’clock. Visiting Hours in the Dolan & Chapman Funeral Home, 5 Canton Ave., MILTON VILLAGE, Mon.  2-6 pm. If desired contributions in Marge’s name may be sent to Catholic Relief Services, P.O.
