Neon Odane Cornel Allen, affectionately known to many as Spoogie or Bussie; was born November 28, 1993 and emigrated from Mandeville, Jamaica in January 2008.  He attended English High School in Jamaica Plain and was an active member of the Caribbean Youth Club, whose members and staff were truly a second family to him.  Neon had a deep love for music and even as a toddler, he used the bottom shelf of his mother’s cabinet to play make-believe music using plates as turn tables.  In later years, as a popular dj, he used his music as tool to joyfully engage his peers and hundreds of people in Boston’s Caribbean community.

After graduating from high school, Neon went on to gainful employment as an armed security guard and had plans to enter the police academy.  He was always occupied: working two jobs, going to the gym, taking real estate classes and playing music at parties on the weekend; while still making time for his family and friends that he adored.  Neon was very affectionate and would often sneak up behind his mother and hug and playfully bite her.  He would also sneak up on his sister Veon and say, “Freeze, you are under arrest.”  He could be frequently found play fighting with his brother Ewon and giving his nieces piggy back rides.

Neon had a great warmth of spirit and an amazing sense of humor; he kept his family, friends and acquaintances in regular fits of laughter.  Additionally, he had a great sense of adventure and enjoyed camping, acting, adventure sports, traveling and auto design.  He was also very generous; and would give of himself and his resources to anyone who needed it.  As such, he served as mentor to younger students entering The Caribbean Youth Club and ensured that they were connected and well supported, as they managed their transition into American life.  He was the recipient of the 2016 Youth Leadership Award for outstanding support of new immigrant students.

Shortly after his 23rd birthday on November 28th, the sun set on our much beloved Spoogie’s life at 3:30 a.m. on Friday December 2, 2016.  Neon is survived by his adoring mother Merlene Barnes, loving siblings Ewon Allen and Veon Barnes-Maisonet, Grandson of Phyllis and Delroy Nelson of Mattapan & Kenneth Barnes of Dorchester.  Uncle of Hermoni Maisonet, Hemoni Maisonet and Christine Allen, all of Dorchester, uncles, aunts, cousins  and other relatives.  He will be greatly missed by family, The Caribbean Youth Club, friends, co-workers, Caribbean Community members and all whose life he touched.

Funeral Service in Berea Seventh Day Adventist Church, 108 Seaver Street, Boston Friday December 16, at 11:00 AM.  Visitation at the church, 10:00 – 11:00  AM.
