a retired member of the Order of Friars Minor, died Thursday, March 12, 2009, at Tufts Medical Center. He was 74 years old.

Born in Arlington to the late Frederick S. and Mary E. (McIntyre) Bamberg, he graduated from St. Joseph’s Seraphic Seminary in Callicoon, NY and St. Francis College, Rye Beach, NH in 1957.

Fr. Callistus taught at Bishop Stang High School, New Bedford from 1969 to 1981. He was involved in Franciscan Pilgrimages at St. Francis Chapel, NYC for thirteen years and later Siena College, Albany, NY from 1995-2002. He retired to St. Anthony Residence, Boston in 2004.

Brother of the late Fred Bamberg. Brother-in-law of Kathleen Bamberg. Fr. Callistus is also survived by three nephews, cousins, friends and his brothers in the Order of Friars Minor.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Saint Anthony Shrine (Second Floor Chapel), 100 Arch Street, Boston, Monday, March 16 at 10:30 AM. Relatives and friends invited. Welcoming Ceremony and Wake Service Sunday in the First Floor Chapel at 7:00 PM. Visiting hours conclude at 8:30 PM. Interment Saint Joseph Cemetery, West Roxbury.
