James Atkins

James Atkins was born in Waynesboro, GA. on December 29, 1947 to James Atkins, Sr., and Julia Johnson. James relocated to Boston in the early 60’s. He attended the Timilty Middle School. He was employed at Summerfield Furniture, Warren Street Mobil and later as a food delivery man.

James was a quiet man and during his free time he enjoyed word search puzzles, watching drag racing and wrestling on TV or in person, but his all time favorite hobby was buying scratch tickets. He was a caring, loving individual. James adored all his grandchildren, family and friends. He knew many people, and many people knew him. You were always greeted with a “Good Morning” or “Hi”, in passing. He loved being around people.

James was always available to lend a helping hand. If you needed him he was there. He was a babysitter and a chauffeur to some of his grandchildren. Sometimes you might ask him to do something and he might grumble, but he always came through.

He leaves behind to mourn, his wife Eula. She was devoted to his care until the end.

Children: Staci Atkins Gamble (Ron), Martez Crockton (Elizabeth), Stacey Bond (deceased), Michele Nailah (Sonya), Sean Pelzer (deceased), Tyrell Pelzer. Goddaughter Bianca Jones.

He was a father figure to a host of individuals including,   Sharnda Young, Heidi DePina and Robert Scott. Siblings: Florence (Rudolph) Glover of San Antonio, Texas, Julius Ronald (Vencia) Atkins of Boston, MA., Gwendolyn (Carey deceased), Payne of Atlanta, GA., Dorethea Johnson (deceased), Charles Atkins (deceased) Kay Bennett (deceased) Marlene White of Boston, MA., Pauline White of Boston, MA., Edith (Leonard) Warbington of Austell, GA..

Grandchildren: 26 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.

James leaves a host of nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews, two deceased nephews and one niece preceded him in death. He also leaves behind a host of cousins, friends and extended family.

Visitation will be held at the Twelfth Baptist Church on Saturday, March 30 from 10am-11am. The Funeral Service will begin at 11am. Interment at Fairview Cemetery. Relatives and friends invited.
