Sr. Barbara E. Healy, mfic

Sr. Barbara E. Healy, of Newton, a beloved member of the Missionary Franciscan Sisters of the Immaculate Conception for 67 years, died at Saint Patrick’s Manor, Framingham, Friday October 20, 2017.

She was the beloved daughter of the late John and Hannah (Hourihan) Healy. Sister was preceded in death by her nine siblings, Helen, Anna (Sr. Mary Paula, SMSM), Joseph, Catherine, Judy, Mary, Virginia, John and Richard. She is survived by many nephews, nieces, grand-nephews and grand-nieces and her Missionary Franciscan Sisters.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in the Chapel at Mount Alvernia Convent, 790 Centre Street, Newton, Monday October 23 at 10:00 AM. Visiting hours at the Chapel, Sunday 2-4 PM. Relatives and friends invited. Interment Holy Cross Cemetery, Malden.

Born in Scituate, she was a graduate of Emmanuel College, Class of 1950 and received her Master of Arts from Villavona College in 1962. Sr. Barbara was a teacher, locally at Mount Alvernia Academy, Chestnut Hill, Saint Clare High School, Roslindale 1961-1965 and 1971-1979 and St. Mary of the Hills School, Milton from 1980-1999.
